Laws in the Letters to the Corinthians

The Apostle Paul is the generally agreed upon author of the two Epistles to the Corinthians, believed to have been written between 50 and 60 A.D.

[Let] all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. – 1 Corinthians 1:10

The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. – 1 Corinthians 1:18-19

The foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. – 1 Corinthians 1:25

Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. – 1 Corinthians 1:26‑27

Your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. – 1 Corinthians 2:5

We speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world.– 1 Corinthians 2:6-7

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. – 1 Corinthians 2:9‑10

What man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. – 1 Corinthians 2:11‑13

The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 2:14‑16

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. [You may plant, another may water, but God gives the increase.] – 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

He that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. – 1 Corinthians 3:8‑9

According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. – 1 Corinthians 3:10‑13

If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. – 1 Corinthians 3:14‑15

Ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. – 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Let no man deceive himself. – 1 Corinthians 3:18

The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. – 1 Corinthians 3:19

Let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; whether … the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. – 1 Corinthians 3:21‑23

I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts. – 1 Corinthians 4:3-5

We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ. – 1 Corinthians 4:10

The kingdom of God is not in word [mere speech], but in power. – 1 Corinthians 4:20

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. – 1 Corinthians 5:6-8

The unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

[Regarding appetites:] All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. – 1 Corinthians 6:9-12-13

He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. – 1 Corinthians 6:17

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. – 1 Corinthians 6:18

Every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. – 1 Corinthians 7:7

As God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. – 1 Corinthians 7:17

Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. – 1 Corinthians 8:1

Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. – 1 Corinthians 9:12

Concerning spiritual gifts: There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:4

Manifestation of the Spirit is given to each for the profit of all: To one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith, to another gifts of healings, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. One and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each individually as He wills. – 1 Corinthians 12:7‑11

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. – 1 Corinthians 13:1

Though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge:, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:2

Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. – 1 Corinthians 13:3

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. – 1 Corinthians 13:4‑7

Love never fails. But prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, knowledge will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. – 1 Corinthians 13:8‑9

When that which is perfect comes and is accepted, then that which is in part will be done away. – 1 Corinthians 13:10

When we are children, we speak as children, understand as children, think as children; but when we become adults, we must put away childish things. – 1 Corinthians 13:11

Now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now we know in part, but then we shall know just as we also are known. – 1 Corinthians 13:12

Now abide faith, hope, love; these three; but the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. – 1 Corinthians 14:1

He who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. He who prophesies speaks edification, exhortation and comfort to men. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church; he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the church may receive edification. – 1 Corinthians 14:2‑5

Do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature. – 1 Corinthians 14:20

In the law it is written: "With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; and yet, for all that, they will not hear Me," says the Lord. Therefore tongues are a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. – 1 Corinthians 14:21‑22

There is a natural body, and a spiritual body. So it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life‑giving spirit. However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. – 1 Corinthians 15:44‑46

Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. – 1 Corinthians 15:50

This corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption; and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." – 1 Corinthians 15:53‑54

Let all that you do be done with love. – 1 Corinthians 16:14

When you turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away from your soul vision. – 2 Corinthians 3:16

The Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. We, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 3:17‑18

By manifesting the truth, we commend ourselves to everyone's conscience. – 2 Corinthians 4:2

God, who commanded Light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Christ. – 2 Corinthians 4:6

Though our outward form is perishing, the inward soul is being renewed day by day. – 2 Corinthians 4:16

Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. – 2 Corinthians 4:17

We do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. [We do not look at the visible, but at the invisible; for the visible is temporary, but the invisible is eternal.] – 2 Corinthians 4:18

If our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. – 2 Corinthians 5:1

While we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. – 2 Corinthians 5:6

We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. – 2 Corinthians 5:10

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. – 2 Corinthians 5:20

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? What communion has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? What part has a believer with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. – 2 Corinthians 6:14‑16

God loves a cheerful giver. – 2 Corinthians 9:7

Appearances can be deceiving: Satan transforms himself into an angel of Light; therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. – 2 Corinthians 11:14‑15

God's strength is made perfect in weakness. – 2 Corinthians 12:9
