Laws in the Letter to the Hebrews

The Letter to the Hebrews is the New Testament letter traditionally attributed to Paul but now widely believed to be the work of a Jewish Christian, perhaps one of Paul's associates. The letter was composed sometime during the latter half of the 1st century. To judge from its contents, the letter was addressed to a Christian community whose faith was faltering because of strong Jewish influences. To fortify Christian beliefs, the author describes the perfect priesthood of Christ, who, unlike the Jewish high priest, offered but one sacrifice as God's own Son, thereby redeeming all of mankind once and for all. The office of the Jewish high priest, by contrast, was filled by a temporary appointee whose imperfect sacrifice had to be repeated over and over. ... The emphasis on Christ's priestly mediation and statements on faith and the Mosaic Law are not typical of other Pauline writings; other parts of the letter, however, clearly reflect Pauline influences." – Encyclopaedia Britannica

We must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. – Hebrews 2:1

The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two‑edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12

Let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:16

Every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people; so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God. – Hebrews 5:1‑4

The first principles of the oracles of God: For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. – Hebrews 5:12‑14

When we patiently endure, we obtain the promise. – Hebrews 6:15

Christ, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. – Hebrews 7:24

Priests who offer the gifts according to the law serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle, for He said, "See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." – Hebrews 8:4‑5

Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. – Hebrews 9:28

On Vicarious Atonement: It is not possible that blood offerings could take away sins. – Hebrews 10:4

The Atonement: "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." – Hebrews 10:9

Christ, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till his enemies are made his footstool. – Hebrews 10:12‑13

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. – Hebrews 10:31

Do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward; for you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise. – Hebrews 10:35‑36

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1

Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. – Hebrews 11:6

No chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. – Hebrews 12:11

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. – Hebrews 12:14

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. – Hebrews 13:2

Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. – Hebrews 13:8
