Evil

Evil is defined as either "natural or moral. Natural evil is any thing which produces pain, distress, loss or calamity, or which in any way disturbs the peace, impairs the happiness, or destroys the perfection of natural beings. Moral evil is any deviation of a moral agent from the rules of conduct prescribed to him by God, or by legitimate human authority; or it is any violation of the plain principles of justice and rectitude. Synonyms of evil include evildoing, immorality, iniquity, sin, villainy, noxious, pernicious, wicked.

"There are also evils called civil, which affect injuriously the peace or prosperity of a city or state; and political evils, which injure a nation, in its public capacity. All wickedness, all crimes, all violations of law and right are moral evils. Diseases are natural evils, but they often proceed from moral evils Misfortune; mischief; injury. Depravity; corruption of heart, or disposition to commit wickedness; malignity.

A modern definition of evil is "Evil is "the antithesis of good; in the widest sense, evil is the reverse of good, and is whatever is censurable or morally depraved, bad, wicked, vicious; doing or tending to do harm, hurtful, prejudicial, depraved intention or purpose, desire for another's harm, causing discomfort, pain, or trouble, unpleasant, offensive, disagreeable, troublesome, painful." – OED

Evil is an abstract principle, subsidiary to the principles of correspondence and reciprocity under the law of freedom to choose. You cannot see evil, but you can and do see the results of evil choices. Evil is subject to the law of being in the sense that a soul can choose to do so many evil acts that the soul corrupts its own goodness into evil. Evil is the perversion of honor, a conscious choice against God's Light. Evil cannot exist without a base of individual personality and mind from which to operate. Spiritual darkness accompanies and is a result of the presence of evil.

Evil begets only evil. Evil cannot create anything good; it can only corrupt the innocent and the good. Ancient tradition has it that all forms of evil were wrought originally by Belial, the father of lies, and later carried on by his willing minions. Belial (Hebrew: Bəlīyaʿal) is translated as wicked or worthless men, ideas, words, counsel, and idolatry, as in 2 Corinthians 6:15-16, "What concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?"

Mephistopheles is best known from Goethe, as the devil with whom Dr. Faustus made his pact, trading his soul for success during his life. Mephistopheles' name may combine the Hebrew mēp̄īṣ, which means "scatterer, disperser", and tōp̄el šeqer, which means "plasterer of lies," obviously aligning him with Belial the father of lies. Jesus, in his word-battle with the Pharisees in John 8, says of them, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." – John 8:44.

John Milton, in Paradise Lost, casts Satan, whose besetting sin was pride, as the leader of the rebellion against God, and saying, "Farewell remorse: all good to me is lost; Evil be thou my good." Jesus referred to Satan in Luke – 10:17-18, "And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

The prophet Isaiah spoke of Lucifer, whose name is Latin for Light-bearer. "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." – Isaiah 14:12-15.

Beelzebub (Baʿal Zəvûv), associated with the Canaanite god Baal, known as the "Lord of the Flies," is another name for Satan. The Pharisees, when they saw Jesus casting out devils accused him of serving Beelzebub: "Then was brought unto [Jesus] one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you." – Matthew 12:22-28.

Evil includes iniquity, abomination, and vice. Iniquity is a grossly immoral or unjust, wicked choice or an action. Abomination is a disgusting and abhorrent choice of action. The world defines a vice on a continuum ranging from "a slight personal failing; a foible, a flaw, an imperfection or a defect," to "a serious moral failing," to "wicked or evil conduct or habits; corruption," or "an evil, degrading, or immoral practice or habit." Vices are usually associated with physical appetites and sensations, and open the door to evil choices.

The serpent crawling on its belly is the symbol of evil and misuse of Power, but the serpent standing upright, as a cobra or rattlesnake does, is the symbol of the wisdom of the ages. All philosophers agree on this and none disagree. The serpent of wisdom swallows the serpent of material phenomena, just as Spirit will always cover and protect wisdom, and lift evil from earth. The serpent on its belly represents earth's spiritual blindness and the dark influence of evil masquerading under the truth of appearances.

The serpent raised, standing upright, symbolizes the lifted creative fire, which opens the eyes of soul to the truth of reality. The serpent of wisdom can instantly swallow any evil eye or dark suggestion, for you use the same Mind, Substance and Power for good as evil, for Light or dark. God has revealed two ways to destroy evil: To wipe out His Creation as He did when He brought the Flood, or by love growing strong enough to overcome evil, as He did when He sent His only begotten Son. The Creator could have wiped out evil at any moment, but destroying the Day of Manifestation would not have solved the problem because every cell and life spark impregnated with evil must be purified before God can call it a day.

We, who are the Elect, must speak the Word in prayer to raise the evil in those who entertain it until they spew it from their hearts and minds, and our prayers lift it from them. Every prayer of lifting and all healing prayer from earth has helped to prepare the cells of earth itself to give up the impregnation of evil.

So, evil is finished except what remains in the minds and hearts of men. As they express it, it may seem at times that God has forgotten us, but He is always with us. "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." – Romans 8:28. To those who love God enough, all things do come together for good. Those who prophesy death and destruction are breathing evil to the surface by their use of the Word, and it is good.

The Elect, by the power of the spoken Word in prayer, skim this evil sludge off for lifting. We bring illumination and intuition together to create cosmic consciousness and balance in the wake of lifting. If a malefactor repents, the Father forgives him and he receives forgiveness formally, before the altar. God uses these people to fulfill His will. "Lord Jesus Christ, we ask thee please to stand with Name in protection and to the Father's glory now and forever more." He will then stand and enlivens a mental image of himself before the one needing protection. Declare that the speech of those who are working evil is reduced to babbling nonsense. When you lift the life sparks of someone who is doing evil, they are stored in a sphere of fire, where they are cleansed of all taint and the memories of evil. Thus, enough life sparks will be available when the soul leaves the body to return under the same identity (name and number). In cases where the evil-doing has been too great, the life sparks are taken to Perdition, a great lake of fire, where the identity and all memory is burned away. You can create an evil entity within yourself with subconscious memory as its base. Hugging, greed, grief, self-pity, or resentment to yourself fills the chest. Asthma, for example, can be the remnant of a self-created entity. Sometimes a good person, who is overly introspective and retrospective, crawls off to live alone, hugging the past until the subconscious memories fill the body. This is not like possession from outside but is an abnormal retirement, with the conscious mind blocked out until the remaining consciousness is almost mindless. Then disembodied entities can move in and out through the naval center.

It takes a strong voice to speak the Word and quell evil. The law is, "Look not into the past." Close your ears to the evil that another spews. Declare that he is lifted into Light, purged and cleansed of evil. Choose the great sword of truth and justice cutting evil from Light, taking evil from the hearts and minds of men. Will you recreate the darkness by listening to and believing past evil? Power is going forth to lift debts and loosen evil from the minds and hearts of the most evil ones, to give them an opportunity to move up in consciousness. It takes a strong voice to speak the Word and overcome evil.

Lift all doubts that God is allowing or unable to prevent something evil to transpire. He has chosen the plan to finish evil with the least destruction possible, the easiest way to bring it to pass without destroying the whole planet. Other plans would have done so. It appears to the world as if God were allowing sickness, evil and destruction, but He is allowing only the just payment of debts, falling on the just and unjust alike.

"I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." – Matthew 5:44-45.

Put an evil one before a mirror and speak the Word, "Thou art stripped of evil," and Power goes forth on your strong tone of voice to save a thousand lives. Be conscious of this. When you hear of forest fires or other fires of destruction, declare that God makes it a funeral pyre to place evil thereon for consuming. – Edna Lister, March 29, 1950.

Your attitude toward evil must be, "You cannot do this. Light fills you. You are a perfect daughter/son of Light, with no evil, no darkness. No power of darkness is in you. "Resist not evil" – Matthew 5:39 means to agree with your adversary quickly. It is the law of nonresistance. You call it good and make your stand on principle. You can stand in the middle of the room, gird your loins, take a deep breath and say, "You are good." It leaves the enemy speechless.

Stand with arms folded, take a deep breath to draw magnetic currents from your feet and fold up around you like a lotus bud. Don't do this to dominate another; it acts like a boomerang. Use it as a matter of principle and only to save another. And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. – Genesis 8:21-22.

Cause and effect: Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready. He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors. Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate. – Psalm 7:9-16.

The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted. – Psalm 12:8.

Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. – Psalm 15.

Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. – Psalm 34:13-14.

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. – Psalm 37:1-2.

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off. – Psalm 37:27-28.

The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. – Psalm 37:27-28.

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. – Psalm 91:8-12.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. – Psalm 121:7.

Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah. Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah. I said unto the Lord, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O Lord. O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle. Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him. – Psalm 140:1-11.

Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. – Proverbs 1:33.

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: to deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked. – Proverbs 2:11-14. The wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it. – Proverbs 2:22.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. – Proverbs 3:7.

Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. – Proverbs 3:29.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. – Proverbs 3:33.

Ponder your path. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil. – Proverbs 4:26-27.

His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin. – Proverbs 5:22.

A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth; he sows discord. – Proverbs 6:12,15.

Six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren. – Proverbs 6:16-19.

As righteousness leads to life, so he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. – Proverbs 11:19.

The wicked will not go unpunished. – Proverbs 11:21.

Trouble will come to him who seeks evil. – Proverbs 11:27.

The evil will bow before the good. – Proverbs 14:19.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. – Proverbs 15:3.

An ungodly man digs up evil, and it is on his lips like a burning fire. – Proverbs 16:27.

A perverse man sows strife; and a whisperer separates the best of friends. – Proverbs 16:28.

An evildoer gives heed to false lips; a liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue. – Proverbs 17:4.

Whoever rewards evil for good, evil will not depart from his house. – Proverbs 17:13.

He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord. – Proverbs 17:15.

Do not say, "I will recompense evil"; wait for the Lord, and He will save you. – Proverbs 20:22.

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself. – Proverbs 22:3.

The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. – Proverbs 28:1.

A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, and does not consider that poverty will come upon him. – Proverbs 28:22.

The sentence against an evil work must be executed speedily. – Ecclesiastes 8:11.

God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. – Ecclesiastes 12:14.

Evil in Other Sacred Writings

The worshiping of idols not to be named is the beginning, the cause, and the end, of all evil. – Wisdom of Solomon 14:27.

The righteous children of good men did sacrifice secretly, and with one consent made a holy law, that the saints should be like partakers of the same good and evil. – Wisdom of Solomon 18:9.

Be not curious in unnecessary matters: for many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion overthrows their judgment. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 3:23-24.

Observe opportunity, and beware of evil; be not ashamed when it concerns your soul, for there is a shame that brings sin, and a shame which is glory and grace. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 4:20-21.

Do no evil, so shall no harm come to you. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 7:1.

There can no good come to him who is always occupied in evil, nor to him who gives no alms. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 12:3.

Give to the godly man, and help not a sinner. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 12:4.

The heart of a man changes his countenance, whether it be for good or evil: and a merry heart makes a cheerful countenance. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 13:25.

He who can rule his tongue shall live without strife; and he who hates babbling shall have less evil. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 19:6.

A wicked man hangs down his head sadly; but inwardly is full of deceit, casting down his countenance, and making as if he heard not: where he is not known, he will do thee a mischief before you be aware. If for want of power he is hindered from sinning, yet when he finds opportunity he will do evil. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 19:26-28.

There is a sinner that has good success in evil things; and there is a gain that turns to loss. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 20:9.

Four manners of things appear: good and evil, life and death: but the tongue rules over them continually. – Wisdom of Ben Sirach 37:18.
