Agreeing and Adjusting, Laws of Doing

To agree means "to receive or take in good part, to accept favorably, to make persons pleased with, or well disposed toward each other, to reconcile, make friends, to bring into harmony things that differ, to conciliate a difference." To adjust means "to arrange, compose, settle, harmonize things that are or may be contradictory, differences, to adapt oneself."

“Never agree with evil, but call it good for God to cleanse.”

Agreeing and adjusting is either a process or an act, depending on your willingness to accept the law and to obey it. Further, agreeing and adjusting is a law of doing, a law of being, a virtue, and usually brings with it an initiation because the very need to agree and adjust implies some adversary or disagreeable situation. Agreeing and adjusting is all about how to handle the difference between the truth of appearances versus the truth of reality.

You must practice agreeing and adjusting daily. Even when the situation appears to be terrible, agree with God that "This is good," declare, "Let there be Light," and adjust to your fellow man, without arguing about it. This is how to invite God to handle the matter for you.

Edna Lister on Agreeing and Adjusting

Listen to the other fellow's opinion, to give him an opportunity and to see if he has something you should hear. Don't force your opinion on anyone, ever, but agree with him, and say, "Yes, it is good from your standpoint, for you." – Edna Lister, The Sermon on the Mount, January 31, 1933.

Your love is strong enough to overcome hate when you agree with God that all people, situations and things are good, even the Mind, Substance and Power that men misuse as hate. – Edna Lister, Ten Plagues on Egypt, May 16, 1934.

You purify the self through surrender to and agreement with Christ in the midst of you. – Edna Lister, From Materialism to Spiritual Awareness, September 9, 1934.

"If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." – Matthew 18:19. When you agree with the law of perfection, "It shall be done." Disagreement creates disintegration. Are you the person you seem to be (the little me), or the person you would like to be now, the I AM of Oversoul. Individually, you must practice agreeing and adjusting to release Power. Just as you tune a piano or an auto, you must expect that Light shall tune you with law. – Edna Lister, Knowledge, November 14, 1934.

The whole story of Christ's birth is symbolic of humility. The great law of agreeing and adjusting is the keynote of the written record of his birth (Luke 2:1-16). His mother "brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." – Edna Lister, The Glory of the Christ Idea, December 23, 1934.

Give up possessing persons, which confers the ability to agree and adjust without being hurt or grieved within. – Edna Lister, Beatitudes, January 11, 1935.

By agreeing and adjusting, your outer expression becomes interesting and desirable. – Edna Lister, Beatitudes, January 11, 1935.

The first Pentecost happened because Christ commanded his disciples to agree and adjust; "He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father." So they remained in Jerusalem and "all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication" until the flames of Spirit descended (Acts 1). – Edna Lister, The Holy Spirit's Work in Man, June 9, 1935.

Agree, and do what you ought to do. Leave the result to God. – Edna Lister, The Twentieth Degree, September 28, 1935.

Life is made up of so many petty aggravating events: Agree with the adversary quickly. "If any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." – Matthew 5:40-41. – Edna Lister, The Foundation of Life, September 29, 1935.

Self disagrees with soul, which leads to separation; the soul's influence leaves the body and self remains in charge. Self must agree with and adjust to soul. – Edna Lister, Whither Thou Goest, May 15, 1938.

This passage covers all problems with the self: "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him, lest at any time the adversary (little self) deliver thee to the judge (Oversoul conscience), and the judge deliver thee to the officer (self-condemnation) and thou be cast into prison (grief about your negligence and disobedience to laws and your ideals)." – Matthew 5:25-26. – Edna Lister, July 11, 1938.

When you have perfectly agreed and adjusted until you see only Light in everyone, you will see the "added things" begin to come, dream desires come true, affairs successful. – Edna Lister, January 25, 1939.

Remain in agreement with others, for by so being, you stand on the great Mount of Miracles, and whatever you say, it shall be done unto you. – Edna Lister, November 10, 1939.

Your path is to agree with your adversary instantly, even holding yourself answerable for blame, then moving to make it right. – Edna Lister, December 11, 1939.

Your business is to stand, to know, to love and let love do the work, to agree and adjust together on the common ground, while never letting go of the vision or goal. – Edna Lister, February 2, 1940.

Live high, agreeing with the Light at the place of poise, then you will express the necessary patience in peace. – Edna Lister, August 9, 1940.

Agree with the Light first by declaring, "This is good. Let there be Light." – Edna Lister, February 13, 1941.

Others are happy when you allow them to talk without contradiction. Remain busy under the Light, doing all you must under divine principle, a balance of Love and Wisdom, and free everyone else to do what they must their own way. You need not say, "I'll do it your way"; just smile and let them talk. When you must do differently, they are happily minding their own business, because they think you agree with them, when you are only agreeing that it is their good way. – Edna Lister, March 5, 1941.

You are not told to understand others, but to love them, to loose them, to agree with them, and ever to seek the depths of understanding of God and His ways. Nor are you told to demand understanding of a single soul on earth, but never to misunderstand them. Thus, shall the true freedom come to earth. – Edna Lister, December 16, 1942.

Be agreeable and in no way aggressive for self. – Edna Lister, December 22, 1942.

Youth and strength grow from agreeing with God and adjusting to the world. – Edna Lister, Life in a Nutshell, "The Fountain of Youth," 1944.

While you never agree with evil, you do declare it good, and must often adjust to its effects while waiting in the Light for God to make it good. – Edna Lister, November 2, 1944.

Until you understand what law means, you cannot make your final ascension, or truly adjust to the world, people and to affairs in full balance. – Edna Lister, February 22, 1945.

It has been said that to agree with your adversary is the greatest of all laws, except full love for your enemies. When you can accept all given or spoken to you as yours, and value it as precious jewels, then shall you truly be free of the small self. Work at the law of agreeing until you have no enemy to agree with, no wrong, no harm or hurt ever done or spoken to you to forgive; then only do you truly accept all that comes to you as your own. Make agreeing your goal until you are spirit-perfect in its personal application.

Once you really heed this law, you shall find true freedom from all dominating personalities. When your comprehension of agreeing and adjusting becomes so great that you think the thing given is Light, without need to lift, then you are in the Love of God. All is Light as soon as it touches anywhere near you. Greet each darkness as a precious jewel. Love everything given you, as Light. Then shall you be free indeed. – Edna Lister, March 12, 1945.

Agree with the adversary, then be still, without kicking, resenting, or talking about it. Declare the other fellow is right: "It is good. You are good, right where you are." – Edna Lister, April 13, 1945.

Agree with your adversary, within and without. The adversary within is self, the part of you that becomes irritated by an imagined adversary on the outside — the person who serves as your mirror. – Edna Lister, April 13, 1945.

Consideration for others amounts to agreeing and adjusting. – Edna Lister, October 15, 1946.

Agreement with an adversary is a miracle. An argument consists of opposition by self. An agreement is a love contract negotiated by soul. – Edna Lister, Aggressive Christianity, November 17, 1946.

To progress, you must be in perfect agreement with faith, and thus in agreement with self. The average person's life is a mess because he argues with self. Some people, who take offense when the other person means none, collect hurts and offenses that become old age wrinkles or frowns.

Do not push fear, worry and resentments down, but call them up from the basement to agree with you, even one moment a day, on one infinitesimal point. Like an unruly child, there is no good place to stop the child's misbehavior if you have not lifted. – Edna Lister, An Encompassing Faith, May 4, 1947.

The law of adjustment: You must be able to take orders to work a different way under instant acceptance. – Edna Lister, July 14, 1947.

The law of adjusting to others offers no excuse, and the law on details says there is no small thing. You can return to the Source on these two laws, for nothing but self limits the number of brain neurons that you can open by living these laws. Stand on your observation point to do this. – Edna Lister, July 14, 1947.

When in another's home, do as they do or require; this is adjusting, or the first law of a guest, the law of courtesy. – Edna Lister, January 8, 1948.

When desire and will are in conflict, you cannot agree and adjust; give up the conflict. – Edna Lister, July 1949.

Agree with the adversary and he will follow the Light you release. – Edna Lister, July 1949.

Some try to push their will on you, or fight your desire to do it your way. You satisfy your adversaries by agreeing, but inside you know that the door will open at the right time for the next step. Agree that the adversary has the right to say what he thinks, loose him and let him go. Declare, "This person will be divinely happy to see me step through the door to success." You need not agree that what the adversary says is right for you. That may be the law for him, and that's where you agree. – Edna Lister, August 4, 1949.

As you make a vow, instantly you set up your choice to agree and adjust with a past adversary. – Edna Lister, August 15, 1949.

One definition of flexibility is to "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." – Matthew 5:25. Agree with God that "This is good," and adjust to man without arguing. Learn to bend without breaking under pressure, to accept your lessons in life, and to hold your place on the path. – Edna Lister, Pentecost: The Way of Ascension, May 7, 1950.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly," for he may point the way to your greatest overcoming. – Edna Lister, October 3, 1950.

“Don't analyze the darkness; ponder the Light.”

"Agree with thine adversary quickly." – Matthew 5:25. Most arguments result from people being afraid to lie to their families and friends about their opinions. The first step in agreeing with your adversary is to seek first the kingdom of heaven. When you do, you cannot lie, because the Father puts the words of love on your lips. Are you going to drag along cantankerous family members? If you fear admitting your convictions, remain quiet.

When you lift others into your kingdom of Light, you will see what a small problem they really are, and will have understanding and compassion. Declare, "She is right where she is. It is her right to live as she desires until she completes her lessons." All degrees and kinds of people exist. You have five seconds in which to declare the adversary good right where he is and to avoid an argument. God never sent you to cleanse another person's will or desires, but gave everyone freedom to choose. First root out the lying adversary in your own heart. You have no one to blame but yourself. It's like being the prodigal son. A time always comes when you look up and cry, "God, I cannot stand this any longer." Then the Father's Light can move in. – Edna Lister, I Remember, October 8, 1950.

Remember to be receptive to change. To do this, you must "Agree with thine adversary quickly." – Matthew 5:25. You have five seconds to declare an adversary good, where he is, or fail the test. Most spats result when people say they can't lie about their opinions to justify arguing. The first step in agreeing is to seek harmony in the kingdom of heaven, where the Father will put words of love on your lips. Since you cannot push a cantankerous person ahead of you, remain quiet if you think that admitting your convictions will cause an argument. – Edna Lister, I Remember, October 8, 1950.

Unless you accept, and agree with the adversary, you cannot comprehend law. To agree perfectly, you must lose all sense or idea of being more perfect than anyone else. As a creator, agree with God and adjust to man without arguing; you do not need to. – Edna Lister, The First Days, June 17, 1951.

The petty little self is your only adversary. Agree with God, adjust to man, and never argue. – Edna Lister, Love in Action, June 17, 1951.

When you say, "I accept. I agree. I have no living adversary. I act with God's Power using me as its servant," you draw in all invested soul substance and reach the state of comprehension. You move from doing to becoming. When you have returned all wrongly invested soul substance to the altar as a gift of self, take time to agree and adjust, and stand in the Light before you speak the Word. – Edna Lister, Love in Action, June 17, 1951.

Keep your mind on agreeing with God, then your consciousness has no room for lower desires, such as criticism, blame, and resentment. Stop looking at self, and look at God. Don't analyze the darkness; ponder the Light. – Edna Lister, June 18, 1951.

If you have not agreed and adjusted, you cannot tie your earth to heaven. – Edna Lister, June 21, 1951.

"I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." – Matthew 5:39. "Resist not evil" means to agree with your adversary quickly, which is the law of nonresistance. You call it good and make your stand on principle. – Edna Lister, July 27, 1951.

No one gets anywhere until he has fifty active, powerful, dynamic enemies. Lift your head above the crowd. You can never achieve until you rise above your adversaries. – Edna Lister, Ye Are Gods, November 30, 1952.

To be flexible means to agree with your adversary. You do not have to agree with his negativity, but you can say, "I could give that a try." Never say it can't be done. Sometimes it pays to be firm and final, other times it pays to try the other fellow's plan. – Edna Lister, Ye Are Gods, November 30, 1952.

We might define the law of nonresistance this way: Nonresistance is being possessed by the full faith of God, to stand nonresistant, making no excuse for your standing, while the Power moves through you, to stand still, unmoved within and immovable without, while agreeing with the other fellow that his own directed path and plan of life are good and very good for him to follow. To say, "Yes, you are right," does not mean, "Yes, I will do it your way." It only means that you agree with him that he has found his own right plan of life and path to follow.

You never need to explain. You need no further speech, for the law of nonresistance is based upon "Let your communications be, Yea, yea; nay, nay" which you interpret as a direct command of law to stand quietly in the heart of the golden silence, granting all others the right to do the same. – Edna Lister, Faith, the Challenger, 1953.

You never err when you live in Light, let Light use you, withstand all conditions in joy, agree with your adversaries, and never think of the self. – Edna Lister, January 12, 1953.

The art of loving is adjusting to humanity; your approach is as personal as how you agree with God. Agree with and adjust to an adversary's demands with love, compassion and understanding, which is agreeing with God. – Edna Lister, The Gospel of the Cross, October 18, 1953.

The art of loving is the ability to adjust to others without imposing your will on them. Agree with God that this is good, and adjust to outer circumstances. Even when it "smells," say, "This is good to lift." – Edna Lister, October 19, 1953.

As you adjust and retract your use of free will inside your own aura, others will treat you gently and seek your advice. Once you bring in those points of will, you will know the true freedom of the Wisdom Emanation, which agrees with the All. – Edna Lister, October 19, 1953.

The law of ascension is to take all blame, agree, love and take up your cross. – Edna Lister, May 27, 1954.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly." – Matthew 5:25-26. To agree with the adversary quickly, you must love God enough. If you don't, the adversary will take you to the judge, who will give you to the officer, who will cast you in prison. So, to disagree is three steps down to the basement, but to agree is only one step up to your tower room of consciousness. If you cannot agree, it proves that you still believe in "enemies." To believe in an enemy creates an adversary, a dark cloud of force, an entity that clings to you.

To be taken before the judge is conscience reminding you of law, your Oversoul breaking through your crust. The officer is regret. The prison is remorse, which is a sense of guilt. To agree with an adversary means to love God more than you love self. Love is adequate for all occasions. The love you release returns to you and forms a steady flow of Power. – Edna Lister, I Accept, June 27, 1954.

After you choose to agree, act quickly and go to your tower room to lift. Your subconscious will create an adversary if a single "enemy" thought remains. People who say, "I just can't agree with that," still believe in enemies, which creates an entity, a dark cloud of force that clings. An adversary will take you to the judge, who will give you to the officer, who will deliver you to prison. The basement is three steps down, but your tower room is only one up.

The judge is your Oversoul, speaking as conscience, reminding you of law. The officer is regret. Think of the hours you have wasted in regret. God does not hand you to the officer if you apologize without regrets and erase your name from your adversary's page. Some people have so many smudges on others' pages that they run out of room. The prison is remorse, which is a sense of guilt. Many are in prison because they do not know how to lift their regrets to a cloud of Light.

To agree with an adversary means to love God more than the self. Reach up to God and love Him. Say, "Father, use me." Agree with your adversary, saying, "I love you. How wonderful you are." You may never nag anyone, but you can mentally shout it, even in the business world. Love is the panacea for all occasions. The magnetic current rushes up through the navel center when you lift your hands to pray. Light moves in from above, and you ascend on an intake of breath for strength. Love as Light fills your aura in this place of love's release of Power. The Light returns to you in a steady stream of Power when you have no enemies on the outer. – Edna Lister, I Accept, June 27, 1954.

“As you retract your use of free will inside your own aura,
others will treat you gently and seek your advice.”

Watch that you do not agree with an adversary in a saintly "holier than thou" way. That's how you design the structure of your next humiliation. – Edna Lister, June 28, 1954.

To agree with your adversary quickly is to reach that point of loving enough that you have no adversary. – Edna Lister, I Surrender, July 4, 1954.

You do not agree with a person; you agree with God. You love the individual and have compassion for them. Adjust to other people and say, "I think you're wonderful to have worked it out this way." Declare that his creations are wonderful. – Edna Lister, November 21, 1954.

Conquer self where you are, that part that occasionally arises and whines, "Just once doesn't matter." Agree with God that it does matter. – Edna Lister, November 21, 1954.

Soul ascension requires that you be flexible, which is your ability to agree and adjust. – Edna Lister, Jesus, the Son of God, November 21, 1954.

"I agree" means "You are right," which is the truth. Even a lie may be the truth for the one who is saying it. The other fellow must first see the fault in you so that he can become conscious of it in himself. Some see the faults in others only, never in themselves, which is infantile, but is the first step. Your critic is a teacher, unless you make him into an adversary.

No one can judge you by the way you look, but people tend to judge by what they see, and by their own state of development. The other fellow gives you a truth of the moment. Accepting this, with "I see your point," is obeying the first law of ascension to open the records, but you may charge no debt of blame. When you say, "You are right," the Light moves in and through you. Then go to the altar and make sure that this is so. When you say, "It's his, not mine," you name him an adversary. – Edna Lister, Salvation Through Faith, July 10, 1955.

Don't stoop to agree with belligerents, just let them enjoy their departure from joy to wallow in darkness. You don't do anything you don't enjoy. The world is filled with willfulness, and people usually run from what they abhor. If you can run from Light, you can ascend and run from darkness. Use no force. – Edna Lister, Heavenly Manna, August 14, 1955.

“Your critic is a teacher, unless you make him into an adversary.”

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him." – Matthew 5:25 is an all-inclusive law, since an adversary can be anything that runs counter to your will and desire. – Edna Lister, Divine Laws for Conquerors, October 7, 1955.

Agree with God that He rules your life. You are the servant of all His Wisdom, Love, and Power. He gives you life to fill you and strength to carry you on so that you shall fulfill your life goals. Then find a point of agreement so that you can adjust to others and to the world to the best of your ability. – Edna Lister, November 14, 1955.

Agree, adjust, and draw each person you contact higher into the Light. – Edna Lister, June 22, 1956.

Love is the art of being agreeable. Many begin to agree and adjust because they cannot stand the disharmony. The love of God as firm, unalterable principle learns the Godly art of saying nothing but yes. This is the art of agreeing, scientifically postulated. Yet the art of agreeing is not enough; you must cooperate, too. – Edna Lister, No Shadow of Turning, July 15, 1956.

Agree with the other fellow, though he insists he knows best. No one can get inside another to see their worst or their best. We all face tough lessons because we must all learn how to agree with God and adjust to man. – Edna Lister, Go Preach the Gospel, July 22, 1956.

Your Oversoul agrees to do whatever is required to save earth. – Edna Lister, July 23, 1956.

Divine agreeing and adjusting: A martyr practices undiluted self-indulgence. God agrees with such by saying, "I understand that you are critical, arrogant, a martyr, not willing to take blame, and denying Me; however, I cannot set aside law for you." Leave the martyr in the mud puddle with his scratchy long underwear. Never try to change a martyr. Have compassion for him, but do not cater to him. – Edna Lister, February 28, 1957.

You lose Christed consciousness when you refuse to practice "I agree and adjust." – Edna Lister, June 6, 1957.

Science judges the brain as the great organ of adjustment because it adjusts to preserve your identity in an environment of swift and ceaseless chemical changes. Be flexible. Metaphysical law says the brain cannot adjust when it is rigid from opinions and prejudices. – Edna Lister, The Brain, Your Instrument of Power, September 24, 1957.

God must agree with your declarations of "I am weak. I am poor. I am sick. I am tired," because you set the vibration; you get just what you ask for. – Edna Lister, God Is a Gentleman, September 29, 1957.

Agree with the other fellow, and if he does not do everything you want him to do, go ahead and do it yourself. – Edna Lister, November 3, 1957.

When your subconscious is out of order, it is working against you. In the process of soul ascension, subconscious and conscious must learn to agree with the super-conscious or Christ mind. This is the meaning of "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." – Matthew 18:20. – Edna Lister, January 9, 1958.

The law of courtesy requires that you agree with God and adjust to man, both at home or in the office. – Edna Lister, March 1, 1958.

Seeing, then agreeing and adjusting is one of life's big problems since no two people see life the same way. When you ascend in consciousness and agree and adjust, you become nonresistant. Enemies expect opposition; it confuses and bewilders them when you agree and adjust, then you have no enemies. – Edna Lister, The Miracle of Increase, April 27, 1958.

You do not need to antagonize anyone; instead, find some point of agreement with them. – Edna Lister, May 11, 1958.

Be agreeable with those souls who are unable to go further in truth work. Make them happy. Agree. Agree. Agree. – Edna Lister, May 12, 1958.

"Seeing the multitudes, he [Jesus] went up on a mountain, and when he was seated, his disciples came to him. Then he opened his mouth and taught them." – Matthew 5:1-2. Jesus saw the multitudes and applied the law of observation — logic, reason, discernment, discretion and discrimination. He went up to a higher state of consciousness, intuition, to hear the Father's message for the multitudes. He applied the law of agreeing with God and adjusting to man, and when the right vibration was set, he spoke. You agree with Power and adjust to others and outer conditions. – Edna Lister, As I See the World, June 15, 1958.

The Lord said to Cain, "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." – Genesis 4:7. "Sin lies at the door" if you do not live up to the law. When you do not agree and adjust to the law, the sin sits at your doorstep. – Edna Lister, July 10, 1958.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him." – Matthew 5:25: We each have some revenge motive in our Pandora's box of self that makes us happy to see another pay a debt. When your adversary has the key to open your lock, out pops your negativity to join his. Surrender and lift this soul taint. – Edna Lister, A Charted Heaven, October 21, 1958.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him." – Matthew 5:25 means to do it now without giving self the chance to respond first. Some think they will lose their identities by agreeing and adjusting. That is silly; all you lose is your petty little ego. – Edna Lister, Constancy in Obedience, October 26, 1958.

Ninety-nine percent of our difficulties in agreeing and adjusting to life are found in the subconscious. Subconscious mind combines all your thoughts and impressions into a kind of mental food that often creates spiritual indigestion. – Edna Lister, Being Without Self, November 2, 1958.

If you do not bridle your tongue, you cannot agree with God or adjust to life. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1959.

Where too many conflicting opinions abound, no consensus is possible. – Edna Lister, January 12, 1959.

"Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." – Proverbs 27:17. In doing your best, you cannot please everyone. The fellow who always agrees with you makes a weakling of you. – Edna Lister, May 7, 1959.

Study the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, which outline the principles of agreeing with God and adjusting to man. The same Power creates, whether you agree or disagree. – Edna Lister, Manifestation, May 24, 1959.

The wedding in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-10) illustrates how Jesus agreed with God and adjusted to man, his mother in particular. The bridal party ran out of wine, and Jesus' mother told him so; he responded, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with me? My hour has not yet come." She told the servants, "Whatever he says to you, do it." Then Jesus, having agreed with God that this was good, adjusted to his mother's "suggestion," and changed the water into wine. – Edna Lister, Manifestation, May 24, 1959.

You must always adjust to new lights shining from above: when you adjust, a new set of lights descends and you must ascend and fit yourself into them. – Edna Lister, June 29, 1959.

Prudence represents agreeing and adjusting to earthly demands, agreeing first with God that all that comes to you is good, and then adjusting to others without arguing. – Edna Lister, What Is Symbolism? October 6, 1959.

Under morality you accept law socially, and learn how to agree with God and adjust to man through tests and temptations. – Edna Lister, The 33 Degrees of Soul Conquering, October 20, 1959.

Agree with your adversary and do not try to explain anything to him. – Edna Lister, The 33 Degrees of Soul Conquering, October 27, 1959.

Lift your frustrations, though you must agree with and adjust to much that you dislike. You shall find that you can reconcile yourself to many things others would never endure, as leader must. – Edna Lister, February 22, 1960.

One day you will register only agreeing and adjusting, and won't think about how to do it. The only way is to practice it without talking about it, which means you just think you want it. Do it until you become it. Great Power is released when you agree with all adversaries immediately. – Edna Lister, March 3, 1960.

"Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God … Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord." – 2 Corinthians 6:14-17. This entire passage deals with agreeing and adjusting with your soul and God, not self. – Edna Lister, From Gethsemane to Ascension, May 15, 1960.

The law says "agree with God and adjust to man." Oversoul always agrees with God. You adjust self and soul to agree with your Oversoul. – Edna Lister, How Can I Help Myself? May 31, 1960.

Agree with God and adjust to others until you have no adversaries to lift. – Edna Lister, January 28, 1961.

Integration results from agreeing and adjusting. – Edna Lister, Integration, September 5, 1961.

"If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am therein the midst of them." – Matthew 18:19-20. Today's term for agreeing is integration, which means to mix or enfold as one. The "two or three" must meet on the highest possible level, not the lowest. No integration (agreement) is possible in darkness, where each wants to have his own way. – Edna Lister, Your Key to Right Action, October 1, 1961

You can release yourself from bondage to others by lifting and loving them. If someone tries to force you, just say, "I am busy this week"; put them off. You need not see them. Love and agree with them; say, "You are wonderful," but stay away from them. – Edna Lister, Whither Thou Goest, October 22, 1961.

Adjusting to the disagreeable things in your life is your greatest action. You must adjust to the twelve great virtues; unless you can adjust, you are not living the laws of being (agreeing and adjusting). – Edna Lister, Honor Above All, April 8, 1962.

Stand in equilibrium and balance, smile, agree and adjust. Ask the adversary, "What do you think I can do about it?" – Edna Lister, Heaven: A Place to Fill, April 10, 1962.

Use the Socratic method and ask questions rather than saying, "You can't do this" or, "You are wrong." Draw the person out; let him talk about his problem or desires. Through such agreeing and adjusting, he often no longer wants what he thought he did. – Edna Lister, What Is Illumination, May 13, 1962.

Agree and adjust; you may not expect others to please you. – Edna Lister, August 13, 1962.

Agree with God that this is good, adjust to man, and never argue; thus you perfectly cover others' transgressions. – Edna Lister, November 14, 1962.

"He who keeps instruction is in the way of life; but he who refuses correction goes astray." – Proverbs 10:17. Don't repudiate experiences. Others may interpret a look on your face as words, so you cannot say, "I didn't say that!" This is agreeing with your adversary. – Edna Lister, Before the Beginning, I Am, November 3, 1963.

If you are agreeing with God and adjusting to man, you are not quarreling. Agreeing and adjusting with the Light does not mean being soft. Say, "You are right, under the Light." – Edna Lister, God as Principle Applied Under Logic and Reason, November 5, 1963.

Agree and adjust; it frustrates your enemy when you agree with him. Adjusting is allowing the other fellow to save face. – Edna Lister, The Word: Your Magic Wand, April 12, 1964.

Learn to agree and adjust over everything. You contaminate the air with the fallout of taints and arguments. – Edna Lister, October 28, 1964.

Sometimes agreeing is a legal invention, called a "truth of necessity": "You are right (from your perspective). I understand (how you think that)." God cleanses the untruth from the Book of Life when you declare it perfect and good. – Edna Lister, November 23, 1964.

To spend your life agreeing and disagreeing, adjusting and fighting, always adds more fuel to your inner conflicts. Never conquering your selfish demands that life conforms to whatever "poor little me" desires, is living life the hard way. Then you live by demands, expecting life and other people to do all the giving, all the adjusting, all the agreeing. The attitude is "I want other people to be good so I can be happy." On this negative vibration, which is the self-pole of the fate line, you expect others to overlook all your shortcomings. So your fate is to be loved "in spite of" instead of because you are an agreeable, wonderful, understanding companion. – Edna Lister, Eternal Youth, 1965.

A bargain is a mutual agreement, and it takes at least two to bargain; one party cannot get very far if the other party does not agree. You cannot bargain with life to change people, families or what they do or say. Your only bargaining power is to agree and adjust. – Edna Lister, Your Bargain With Life, June 13, 1965.

You can strike a bargain with God only by agreeing and adjusting. – Edna Lister, June 14, 1965.

You may not close out the voice of someone who disturbs you, which leads to deafness. You must clear the record of what you have absorbed, and lift everything around you, making it one with you, agreeing with God and adjusting. – Edna Lister, November 18, 1965.

Agree with the adversary when criticized. "How could I have done such a thing?! I'm sorry." Then bless the adversary, without impatience, or impatience returns to you sevenfold. – Edna Lister, January 24, 1966.

Diplomacy is the art of agreeing and adjusting to any situation or condition with "Let there be Light." – Edna Lister, Order and Diplomacy, June 4, 1966.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly." – Matthew 5:25 perfectly expresses the dynamic principle of nonresistance. – Edna Lister, Am I Strong to Endure? December 18, 1966.

You apply as many relative laws as you possibly can, but you must always agree with God and adjust to your fellow man. – Edna Lister, Beauty: A Spiritual Way of Life, May 9, 1967.

Curses, lukewarmness and indifference fill an empty space, yet keep it empty. This is why you declare everything good and agree with the adversary. Say, "You are filled with Light," and go about your business. – Edna Lister, The Keys of the Kingdom, June 16, 1968.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly." – Matthew 5:25 makes you untouchable to the outer world. Don't be smug, self-righteous or holier than thou, but subtle. To agree "quickly" means now, which gives the adversary all the credit your little self would like. Seek a point of praise for the adversary: "I think you are wonderful. Wanting to make me so good is wonderful of you!" You don't need adversaries; you can turn them into friends, if you so desire. – Edna Lister, The Heavenly Mysteries Unveiled, October 20, 1968.

You must remain on the Mount of Transfiguration in prayer, determined to conquer self, until you have no desire to answer back, or tell anybody what you think of him, until you can agree with your adversary. You just agree that what they are doing is all right for them and they should do a good job and be happy about it. – Edna Lister, July 1, 1969.

You agree and adjust to relative principles, which are really secondary laws, by saying, "You are right"; he is right for himself at the moment, but not for you. – Edna Lister, December 8, 1970.

Every change is a new incarnation that challenges you to agree and adjust with the best of the past. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1924-1971.

Agreement is the preestablished harmony between body and soul before their creation. – Edna Lister, Undated Papers, 1924-1971.

Treatments in Agreeing and Adjusting

"I now agree and adjust in the high Light from above, instantly, under all conditions." – Edna Lister, April 23, 1941 and Flaming Desire, May 26, 1941.

Here is an incantation of the Spirit for agreeing with an adversary: "Darling, you are wonderful. I love you." You comply with law while love holds the other person in bonds until his condemnation ceases. – Edna Lister, God Is a Gentleman, September 29, 1957.

Use these four principles to agree and adjust with your self: Put God as the Light first, and say: "I arise," which means that I will let go of self, and go to God. "I accept" whatever comes to me as mine to lift. "I recognize" that this is good. "I surrender," and let God move in. – Edna Lister, August 28, 1958.

A mental declaration in the face of the outrageous: "I disagree with what you have said, but I agree that you had to speak it to be cleansed." – Edna Lister, November 13, 1963.

To the person who is handing you guff, you need only to fold your arms and say, "You are having such a good time. I am enjoying listening to you." This is how to agree and adjust, to work it together for good. Agree that God is love and adjust to the world by giving them their own say. – Edna Lister, November 27, 1964.

When you face a so-called adversary, you agree by using your creative tools of desire (emotions), thinking and imagination perfectly. Waste no time paying debts for others. Criticism, blame and resentment cause you to take on the debts that others make. Be interested in everyone; in the face of the worst criticism, ask questions. No matter how outrageous their response, you can always say, "Really? Well, I can see how you think that. Have you ever thought of thus and so?" – Edna Lister, You Are Immortal Now, September 19, 1965.

The Law of Agreeing and Adjusting

This Edna Lister lecture recording transcript is dated January 1968, Tacoma Washington.

The most important word in our law of agreeing and adjusting (Matthew 5:25) is quickly. It means to respond instantly to another's demand for an argument. Quickly does not mean next week, tomorrow or even an hour from now; it means right now.

To agree quickly is seeking first the kingdom of heaven, to make sure you are in complete contact with your I AM center of consciousness, the only place from which you can hear the "still, small voice" when it directs you in any situation.

Next in importance is "while you are in the way with him," meaning you must stand still and wait on the outer. This involves agreeing with God that the situation is good, and lending yourself with a joyous smile to whatever is being done, to whoever is presenting us with this lesson for your soul growth.

Agreeing and adjusting also involves being grateful to the person or situation for showing you your weakest point in your ascension work. Someone or something is giving you the opportunity to discover exactly how much you have learned to love, how well you have surrendered the pride of necessity always to find your own opinion right, though the whole world finds you wrong. You become so interested in conquering that you move easily into the third important phase of this law — agreeing.

The only true freedom of soul comes when you reach that point in Ascension where you learn to agree and adjust without having to think about what you are doing. Today, now, quickly, agree — these become your words of conquering. Vain arguments are but a waste of God's time, since those who desire an argument have made up their minds, with no intention of changing. They want to be thought right, they want the last word, so give them the first word and save all your words and time.

As you smile, you reach up quickly, grasp your own Rod of Power and hold fast to it while you smilingly wait for the arguer to run down. It is worth the effort to be silent and smile when you see the facial expression of one who realizes there is no opposition or reason for more speech. This law always works.

To agree and adjust does not mean you are obligated to like what anyone is doing. You are not obligated to go their way if it is against your own laws and principles. God asks you only to love others for what they are capable of becoming, not for what shows on the outside in words or actions.

It is good policy to manage your life by agreeing and adjusting, since God pays no attention to your disagreements with anyone. He does not take your personal opinions about anyone or anything into consideration in His final judgments.

God rewards each of us according to our personal earnings and no more. But not less, either! Although your nearest and dearest family members and friends sometimes tell Him all about our lacks and limitations, He does not grant your credits based on what others think.

What anyone else thinks about you cannot change your balance sheet. God compiles that sheet from your own daily ledger, which takes into consideration the perfection of your desire to be perfect, and is not wholly based on your daily practice of law.

When you want to agree, leaving yourself free to make beautiful choices, freeing others to live as their own Christed consciousness dictates, you realize what the whole law means: When you agree quickly with God, you can do nothing but agree with others. You suddenly realize that you have never had any enemies or adversaries on the outer.

Standing in your garden of love, bathed in the golden silence becomes the dearest action of your life, and from here you are free of any desire to disagree with anyone about anything. At last you learn the art of "keeping silence before Him." God has become too important to us for the lesser levels of hurt and resentment to enter into your consciousness.

It is wonderful to understand that you create your own adversary every time you acknowledge an enemy. You discover that you assume the role of "judge" when you think in terms of enemies, and those so declared surely become adversaries who then judge you.

Since the Bible is our textbook and the Sermon on the Mount holds every law we need to obey to learn our earth lessons, we take this step from Matthew 5:25: "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whilst thou art in the way with him." Not hours later, not tomorrow, but right now. It has been thought by some to be a stupid law. It has even been interpreted, in some instances, and used to avoid telling the truth. It does not mean lying to agree with an adversary.

There is no need to be dishonest or cover up the truth for anything. There is no dishonesty in saying to the person, "I can see how that seems to be the truth to you," even though the statement might be an outrageous one. All you need to do is to keep silent about your own ideas. Your opinions are not interesting to any adversary. To want to argue to convince another is only being a show off. Smile, be silent, saying mentally, "Let there be Light!"

Several lesser laws are involved in this truly great one of agreeing. The first one to learn is that you never can know, by any means, exactly what is right or wrong for another. God has made this impossible for you to do. Your business with this law is to know one thing only: When adversaries approach, you are supposed to know instantly what is right or wrong for you, then to stand silently and hold fast to your own right way.

There is no law saying that you have to speak. Silence does the agreeing, in the Light, with the adversary. Any words can shatter your own high vibration of Light. Hold fast to knowing that divine Mind never gives you the right to know what the other fellow really needs. Each is in his own place, learning his soul lessons, and disagreeing with anyone is sure to disturb the very plan of life lesson being presented to him.

You dare not forget, when agreeing with an adversary, that to declare Light is one thing the Power needs to make the lesson mean ascension for him. An adversary, and his reason for being one, is the most unimportant thing in your life.

To agree demands that you ignore the adversary's intent to hurt or wound, and to quickly find some reason for praising him. To say, "How wonderful you are," to an adversary lifts you out of slavery to the world and into your own sun center of Light, where nothing can touch you. To use praise for an adversary frustrates him until he forgets his original intention and departs.

Agreeing With the Adversary

This Edna Lister lecture outline is dated September 1, 1945, Yellow Pine, Idaho.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." – Matthew 5:25. To many this seems to mean giving up all personal freedom, yet nothing is further from the truth. A person may seek to force his methods of living upon you, either physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually only when he is full of opinions and prejudices. Only then will another attempt to interfere with your choice of how to live your Christ-life, and you need not offend to remain free.

Having first moved into your own kingdom of heaven for that instant contact with Light, you may look from heaven upon that earth-bound adversary and tell him that you are certain he is right in his ideas, and that he has worked out a wonderful method for himself. Then ask him to tell you more about it. Rest assured, he will be only too glad to talk about it, and in that talking will forget his original intention.

Any adversary will be happy to see your interest in him and never know that you have not promised to follow his method. Sometimes, because all barriers of resentment melted away when you first called upon God, you do find a way in which to apply law. An open mind always stands ready to receive a gift from every adversary. To agree means to be agreeable right now, not tomorrow.

Agree and Adjust

This Edna Lister sermon transcript is dated November 20, 1949, Buffalo, New York. Scribe: Ruth Bender Collord. Scriptures: Matthew 5:25-26 and Matthew 5:1-12.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing." – Matthew 5:25-26.

"And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." – Matthew 5:1-12.

Resentment, rebellion and self-pity forever condemn you to needing to agree with God and adjust to man. If you ever allow a second of blame or the idea that the other party "had no right," then you need to agree and adjust. Agreeing and adjusting enables you to accept criticism, even reviling, and call it good.

Jesus taught these truths 2,000 years ago, but mankind is just beginning to grasp the essence of his message. Many of his teachings still remain too mystical for the masses to understand, let alone to live by them.

Silence is golden, which is a reminder not to talk about offenses or to chew the emotional cud. This is how you work out your application of Christian principles. Yet the golden silence works only when you apply it.

If someone is devoted to having the "last word," let him have the first word as well. Why should you waste your time when you know he is going to do argue? Apply the law to reach the golden silence and send Light to fill the situation. You can lift anything by using the love of God in purity of heart, while declaring it good.

Examining and studying Jesus' life and teachings provides half the picture. He opened the Sermon on the Mount with the Beatitudes, which are nine of the lesser mysteries of the Via Christa, the Way of Christ. They are attitudes of being, nine ways to agree with God and adjust to any so-called adversary.

Jesus started his ministry by giving us the "how to" and explanation of our relationships with our fellow man. You do not yet have a full and loving relationship with God if you have poor relationships with others.

The one who says, "I didn't ask to come here," has usually spent all his soul credits and had to incarnate. His type does not try to ascend or work to lift self, but seeks an easy place to rest. No such place exists, however.

"Ye are gods" and it does not yet appear what you shall be when you learn your lessons. God sent Jesus with the nine Beatitudes for man's edification.

No one can change another person's disposition, not even God; it would interfere with their freedom to choose. Waving a magic wand cannot cure humanity. All you can do is to hold to the truth of knowing that Light can heal them, keep the Light on them, and call them perfect.

The only thing you can change is your own self. How long will it take you to learn this lesson? How much longer will you wait to learn it?

Remain silent with the one who loves to see others in tears. Smile, and see an open door to soul freedom instead of self's slavery as the so called adversary exercises his desire for Power. He will squirm when you have stood in the golden silence and declared him perfect long enough and often enough.

The only way such a fellow can graduate from his low class is for someone in a position of spiritual responsibility and inner authority to declare him perfect and to see him as perfect long enough for the Light to work completely.

It takes the faith and love of God to stand and hold and know unto completion. You must see him with the eyes of perfection. A miracle is to see "it" as being perfect, fervently enough.

You can find many ways to agree and adjust. Of the fifteen lesser mysteries, the Beatitudes are nine ways of agreeing and adjusting with others. The other six lesser mysteries deal with agreeing and adjusting with yourself creatively.

The first three mysteries are Mind, Substance and Power, which you apply as your tools of desire, thinking and imagination. To achieve a Godlike attitude is to be what the Beatitudes express. This is impossible unless you bring your will and determination to bear on the matter.

When the grouchy one grouches, when the shouter shouts, smile and say, "Sorry, I didn't hear you." Yet hold the door open to the Light. When you have mastered this, you will need to turn the other cheek only once.

Stand with the Power of God underpinning your will, desire and imagination. When you do, the six creative lesser mysteries surround you with the principle of nonresistance.

Christed nonresistance has now filled the world. Missionaries have taken the name of Jesus the Christ to all parts of the world, and he embodies the principle of nonresistance. Nonresistance has made some enemies think they could walk over others, yet nonresistance is the greatest ascension principle, next to praise.

The individual or civilization that refuses to ascend inevitably will die out. You either ascend or descend. When you descend, you live by self. When you ascend, you live by the three greater mysteries, wisdom, love and joy.

Love fulfills the law, and is the substance of God. Joy causes love to press forth into manifestation. Only the love of God can overcome your mental maladies of indecision. You can do anything by speaking the words, "How I love God" and "I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." – John 12:32, while trusting in Jesus the Christ.

The clarion call of heavenly trumpets has been sounded, setting the keynotes for the next 2,000 years. "Except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened." – Matthew 24:22.

Back your praise with real joy of soul. Let your enemies say what they like while you declare it good. This lifts it up and out of your life and leaves everything clean.

Praise God for everything you have and love Him with His own high love. Praise Him that He sends His Power to you. Walk with wings on your feet. God will renew you when you live by the Power of the revelation of mysteries. For example, when we, as souls, left our great heavenly home, we rested in easy stages to prepare bodies of a sufficient degree and kind to become heavy enough to incarnate. So we now have regular periods of rest here as we continue ascending.

Nothing can withstand nonresistance, which is the greatest power principle. Together, we the Elect, must lift every remaining bit of Power that has been misused as force on earth, back to God. Thus, you face tests and temptations, for only the pure in heart may be trusted with the great mysteries. Declare that love and joy take you through, and praise God that this is so.

You may have wanted to do something all your life, yet you must back your desires with experience. The soul is worthless without experience, for pure innocence alone is not enough. You must have the wisdom born of experience, born of making mistakes and learning how to correct them.

Declare that the love of God flows through your family, everyone everywhere and everything else for complete lifting. You must agree and adjust. The time you have spent forgiving your enemies has robbed you of strength, health, and the success you would have enjoyed earlier by practicing nonresistance. Why struggle so hard for no gain?

Call the enemy good and pour love on him immediately. "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." – Matthew 5:25.

Once you have condemned yourself to the prison of regret, it takes days to find freedom. You must change your attitudes. First, you must not be proud. Second, the meek are practicing nonresistance. Call on Light to do the work.

Just to think about these principles is not enough. Surrender to the Power of God so that the Power uses you. When you become the fully surrendered instrument of love, love itself will burn away every barrier.

The Glory of Agreeing 1

Edna Lister created this sermon outline for June 10, 1951, Cleveland, Ohio; she also used it June 24, 1951, Buffalo, New York. Scripture: Romans 8:28-39.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 8:28-39.

"All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." – Romans 8:28. The "called according to His purpose" are those souls who choose the way of Light. The declaration, "This is good and very good," marks the difference between the creature and creator consciousness, earth and heaven, darkness and Light.

Earth's atmosphere pushes fourteen pounds against every square inch of your "creature" physical body. Emotions build even greater pressure from within, until you feel squeezed.

The creator moves with Light, flowing from above as a river, splitting the atmosphere as Moses parted the Red Sea. Light forms a whirling sphere to carry you forward, cleansing, lifting and absorbing obstacles on your path. With Light, serving as wings to bear you aloft, you mount up to heaven as on the wings of an eagle.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified." – Romans 8:29-30.As the "called," you are "justified" by the Light moving through your works, not by self-justification. The Light from above then glorifies you.

"What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" – Romans 8:31. What do you say to all these things? Is God with you, or do your self-created enemies accompany you? God must be first.

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?" – Romans 8:35. Who shall separate you from God? The worst temper or criticism is always seeking to climb back into the nest. Do not be surprised to find a foot in your face if you try to push it out.

"As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." – Romans 8:36. "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." – Matthew 6:34, and self must "die daily" (1 Corinthians 15:31) either to darkness or to Light. You cannot entertain darkness and Light, ice and steam simultaneously. You must choose one way or the other.

In resenting the one who criticizes and condemns, you push him from your nest. He rebels at being pushed and his only method of retaliation is to climb back in the nest. You draw all this resistance from your self and others when you fear it.

The Elect are the "called." God calls you from the creature stage of fight/flight consciousness. You choose daily, ice or steam. You must choose to put God first. You choose, and make vows to be a son or daughter of God. The Father then justifies and glorifies you when you choose Him first.

The Glory of Agreeing 2

This Edna Lister sermon transcript is dated June 10, 1951, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribes: Margaret Pratt Doan, Ruth Johnson.

You must seek the Light and ascend instantly when you slip. One prophecy says that if a leader walks in the Light, his followers could never slip.

You can declare, "You shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." Today the Holy Spirit's wings touch you with the white Christ Light.

God places in your hands, in your charge and keeping, all the lines of Light that go wherever darkness exists in the world. These lines are invisible as atomic substance, yet one day science will prove their existence: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." – Hebrews 11:1. Faith is the substance of Light, and when you become faith, you turn into a transforming power for good.

All souls stand as equals under eternal law. Each may ascend as far as he wants to make himself responsible, release Power, live in the high place of consciousness and use his equipment to see and hear spiritually. How great is your burning desire? All experience that comes to you is yours to act on and lift. When you realize this, your recognize that you must pray your way all the way through.

"What is that to thee? Follow thou me." – John 21:22. When you remove your mask of opinion and prejudice, sacrifice old, deep-seated reactions of disappointment and criticism, you loosen the desire body's physical moorings, which enables you to see and hear spiritually.

Soul ascension on sacrifices of self creates a vacuum that loosens you, the soul, in the body. For instance, when you travel, your gaze constantly shifts from one object to another, which keeps you loose in the body. You can become so "set" at home that you become tight in the body.

Asking, "Why did this happen," when you get a plop in the face, proves that you need to sacrifice resentment and other "worldly possessions." You cannot criticize or be hurt by criticism unless you "settle" and become tense, tight in the body. The law of nonresistance establishes you loosely in the body and diffuses your consciousness.

These verses are eternal decrees, promises of abilities that God endowed you with to use in your life's expression. This text depicts your standing with God, and your rating under divine principle. "All things work together for good" pricks you from the outside, saying that no matter your goal, high or low, you can and must look into the face of the greatest darkness or adversity and call it good, which is your greateststumbling block.

When God declared Creation good and very good seven times in Genesis, He set a clear line of demarcation between the creature and creator consciousness, irresponsibility and responsibility, egotism and compassion. The creature denies liability for his actions, while the creator is accountable for his creations. Yet some people attempt to straddle the fence, dodging responsibility.

You cannot create anything or progress without faith, but since the zeal to achieve is egocentric, faith often degenerates into being self-centered. If you cover your enthusiastic faith with false humility to prevent others thinking you are egotistical, it breeds egotism.

Yet you never need to hide your desire to achieve when you become faith. If you write "compassion" over "humility," you will not need to cover it with self-centered sympathy. Faith requires the sacrifice of self. You slip from your ideals if you sympathize with self, which eventually leads you into humiliation.

It's never too late for anything, just too soon. The future so quickly becomes the past because you are not living your today. The world wants the future now, but it takes time to coordinate self with soul, and it takes so long to reconcile the world's horrors with God's principles.

You endure repeated agonies to outgrow the creature urges, and some vacillate for years between creature and creator consciousness. Depending on another is the creature's answer. Lacking desire to be a strong pillar in the Temple of God, the creature hopes to ride into heaven on Jesus' coattails.

God designed you to live by your mental faculties of logic, reason, discretion, discrimination and discernment, yet how often your plans crumble to dust when you rely on others. When you become a creator, you stop counting on others and bank on God.

Declare, "Today my creations are good and very good." If they are good today, they can be good for a year, then it's still a good idea to call them good.

God cannot wait for you to become perfect, but uses you in the hour you ascend to see perfection. God would never accomplish anything if He waited for you to ascend, conquer your interludes of self and be entirely good before He creates through you.

God must do as much as possible in the moments while you stand as a creator. If He can do such magnificent works in your ten minutes of burning desire, think what He could do if you stood at that white point of heat constantly.

Each is a free agent, and he who believes, steps from the creature consciousness stage. You become a creator, the servant of all Power as you climb straight up through faith, love and compassion.

"Whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified." – Romans 8:30. God justifies and glorifies those who ascend and become Godlike. God's glory covers every hateful deed when you sheath others in Light.

You are responsible for whatever you destroy: Some kill hopes and joys, for instance. God releases His glory despite your irresponsibility or indifference.

Our purpose on earth is to step from the creature stage to live as full creator gods. You can portray a destructive or constructive kind of god, so the myths record. God has predestined you to become a creator of life and glory, to travel on wings of Light.

Scientists in the past disputed that Light could heal, but they are now proving Light's healing powers [consider lasers]. Light from the heart of God could lift earth instantly, but most people think they must wait for scientists to prove it.

Early Christian sects thought they should give up wealth and outer adornment to fulfill God's purpose. He intended us to be radiant creators, not goodie-goodies.

You glorify God by adorning yourself in beauty, for others see God in you. Your face will fade into glory and others will see only the Light in you when you completely glorify God.

God created you in His image and likeness, gave you His attributes and the equipment to apply His Power as a creator. You are a creator when you say, "Lift me, fill me with Thy energy. Use me. Fill me with Thy life, oh God."

Breathe deeply when life presents spiritual debts for payment, and appropriate the right living vibration for the moment of its purpose. You can pay debts only from a high point in consciousness, not from a mud puddle.

Gird up your loins, permit no laziness, do it yourself and conquer. God chooses you to stand. God calls his best beloved to stand in trying places because there are trying places where someone must stand, and the careless and indifferent are not great enough for such service. God chooses that all Creation ascend. He calls the creature, who squints at the truth and immediately wants family, friends and coworkers to justify him.

The servant of all Power stores his treasures in heaven while he regards others with faith, love and compassion, not opinion, prejudice and unrighteous judgment. The creator asks for results only, no outer credit. What he is makes a man great, not what he tells others about himself.

Look through the mask that each person wears to God's glory and Light. Look up in consciousness, and thank the Father for joyous comprehension of all that is. You need not tell others about it because you are it. Creatures think the world owes them a living, and always have so much to fight about. It takes only half a brain cell to become angry, jellyfish get mad, but who wants to be such a creature?

A creator is too busy to waste time on anger, but says to darkness, "If God is for me, who can be against me?" He soothes and calms the angered one with Light, yet this does not mean all your problems will disappear. When you cannot imagine it working, watch to see how God will do it. After all, He established the laws, the answers and wrote the how-to-do-it manual.

Working under divine law produces never-failing glory because God always has the answer. Just declare it good and take the next step in unconquerable faith without demanding an answer. Declare, "Be good according to God's purpose." Say, "sufficient unto the day" to bring the answers from the invisible substance you breathe on that vibration. You collect the divine substance you need, and continue.

Doors to opportunity open and close as you climb the ladder of Ascension in Light. God has a bigger, better plan when a door closes. If you continue to ascend instead of wailing, saying, "Father, thank You," seven doors will open. When a door closes, knock on seven more, knowing that the answer is there. If seven doors close, forty-nine will open. Sacrifice the "joy" of disappointment and make those closed doors pay a dividend.

You can expand or condense divine substance, and it contracts to a pinpoint under negative criticism and judgments. Substance expands through praise, love and joy. You can freeze water into ice or boil it into steam, but ice and steam cannot jointly coexist. No one can serve God and self. Creature consciousness condenses substance, but creator consciousness expands it. You either crystallize substance or release it into Light.

God justifies and glorifies those who step up to become Godlike, yet deviate from the family pattern and they'll call you screwy. The Father can turn any confusion or destruction into glory if you call it "good." Some people try to ascend while pushing 14.7 pounds per square inch of grief in air pressure ahead of them. If grief weighs that much, how much do hatred and resentment breed from within?

Criticism is good, wonderful, and it cannot hurt when you know that God is all love. Thank Him and create. Inner pressure builds when you are hurt, so open the safety relief valve and step up to where criticism cannot hurt you. When you allow the little self to be "hurt," you blame another. Never charge a debt of blame against one who tries to hurt you, for if you push him away, he will always try to climb back into the nest.

Breathe deeply, ascend to expand your consciousness, and tell God He is wonderful. Tell Him how marvelous your criticizer is, how you never noticed that particular flaw. Ascend in consciousness. The resistance vanishes, and you walk through. Glory heals your anger when you robe the other fellow in Light.

Who can separate you from God's love? Only the petty little self. "For Your sake we are killed all day long" means the death of your old consciousness and resurrection of the good. "We are more than conquerors through him who loved us." – Romans 8:37. Arise like a phoenix from the ashes of self, cleansed in eternal fire.

No one on earth credits you with glory, yet ascending, God endows you with all divine potentials, the real values in life. Soul ascension and conquering are your actions, and God's reaction is inevitable. He produces when you fulfill His promises and endowments.

The faith of God is unconquerable when you put God first. Your lines of Light remain welded to the Source when you live, move and have your being in the Light. You drop your lines and sink into despair only when God is not in first place.

Ascend on your line of Light and faith. Declare, "I am listening, Father. Here I am. Please move over and let me in." God fills you with more than kinetic atomic energy, and pours out the degree of Power your living soul originally brought to earth.

Each day the Creator paints a new portrait of the glory of that mighty universe of Light and might, which is hidden to the creature but open to His creator sons and daughters. Fulfill your destiny and create.

Edna Lister created this sermon outline for June 17, 1951, Cleveland, Ohio; she also used it July 1, 1951, Buffalo, New York. Scripture: Matthew 5:21-26.

"Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing." – Matthew 5:21-26.

The Sermon on the Mount covers every angle of human relationships. This portion of the Sermon opens with "You shall not kill," and "whoever kills will be in danger of the judgment," as Jesus reminds them of the ancient Mosaic Law.

Yet he adds, But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment," telling the crowd that you can kill hope with anger, slander, gossip and hate.

Then he warns them of the danger of calling another names in contempt: "Whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." – Matthew 5:21. "Hell fire" is a word-symbol loaded with meaning.

"H" symbolizes the ladder to heaven.
"E" represents the "mother of earth."
"LL" stands for the 33 Degrees of Ascension to Christing.

In the first ten degrees of ascension, the creature consciousness, which has only a credulous belief in the law, is willing to kill without cause. In the second ten degrees, the son of man, who knows law, needs a cause to show his anger. At the third ten degrees, the son of God, who comprehends law, knows that anger is dangerous to the soul.

The creator, who is becoming law under the final three degrees (Master, Priest and Christos), knows that the first misstep softens morale and the moral stance, making the second mistake easier. Weakened moral fiber inevitably leads to nothing but selfish desires, until you cannot say yes or no. If you even think a name, you set the law of action and reaction into operation. Like a boomerang, whatever you aim at another returns to strike you.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." – Matthew 5:25. "I accept" is the first initiation of responsibility for the great degree of comprehension. Unless you accept, and agree with the adversary, you cannot comprehend. It's your choice. The "judge" is conscience, the "officer" is remorse, and the "prison" is regret.

Integrate this with the four stages of comprehension: You hear about it. You talk about it. You think about it, and finally, you do it. When you first hear it, the touch of your full living soul awakens conscience. When you believe it, you experience remorse, guilt, anguish and feel hopeless.

When you have fully awakened your conscience, you find yourself in the prison of regret, where you finally repent and desire to do something to make amends. However, you still waste time trying to forgive self. Instead, you must give love for self to redeem it.

To agree perfectly, you must lose all sense of being more perfect than anyone else. "I accept" is the "do" stage, which happens in the invisible fourth dimension. It's only one step up from "doing" as a son of God to being a creator.

A degree above comprehending law is becoming law. "I accept all responsibility and I become law." How you step up is by offering your gift of the "little self" at the altar. If you invest yourself only on the outside, you have nothing to give up as a gift to God. You must seek your brother to redeem the soul substance you stamped on his back when you called him a name.

You mix your soul substance with that of all those with whom you have had contact. You recall and redeem this substance when you "seek out your brother." This gift of self is most precious to God. You must take time to agree and to become.

The First Days 2

This Edna Lister sermon transcript is dated June 17, 1951, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribes: Margaret Pratt Doan, Ruth Johnson.

Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing." – Matthew 5:21-26.

Love is the only magnet earth has that can hold us to its horizontal way of living. We love many things, or think we do. Yet the whole travail of life is to reach true love, to reach the point where all else is added, to step into the magnetic Source of pure love, the second Emanation. We are working up to a new high point of ascension of consciousness. Higher initiations, greater than great, the greatest of any age, start today on the inner.

Love is a great mystery of life. Pure love draws all to itself and turns everything into itself, even selfish love. To be possessed of pure love is the Hindu Nirvana. You do not attain pure love by going off into a corner. You must add action to love to be love in action.

Your desire to be perfect is perfect, and it takes you to heaven. The Father advances you credits to release Power for lifting earth. You are always working on advanced credits you have not yet earned.

Today you can cover everyone's transgressions, including those of the wicked. Reach with arms of Light to gather and lift them to a cloud continent of Light, which will sustain everyone until all can gain balance. Be like an atomic bomb of glory to lift the darkness. You partake of the glory you release, and God wants all His sons and daughters home again.

The Bible is a code of Light. No one can understand the Bible without first knowing and comprehending its code. Biblical revelation is a key to humanity's search for soul growth. The Sermon on the Mount holds the mysteries of soul from the creature stage to the creator, but does not list them in consecutive order. If the steps were obvious as A, B, C, workers in darkness would have misused the Power.

The masters of mystery have made the code difficult to uncover. You use logic, reason, discrimination, discernment and discretion to rearrange and unfold the steps to become a servant of all Power. The heads of ancient schools veiled the mysteries because the world would have been lost if evil ones, who consorted with darkness, had known them, too. Therefore, they have made it hard to read the code of life in the Bible.

First, you must work to discover the code, then to understand this code for comprehension and soul growth. All biblical revelation is part of humanity's search for the key to soul growth.

The Sermon on the Mount covers every angle of human relationship and three stages of evolution, the living soul's ascent from creature to creator. These stages are three definite steps in soul development and ascension.

"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill. Whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment." – Matthew 5:21. The first step belongs to the creature only. He kills for the lust and love of destruction.

If God did not judge us according to law in this stage, the destruction would continue wholesale. Having never been afraid is no credit or virtue. The creature must heartily fear retribution, so the judgment of law is harsh. When one judges another unjustly, he draws this harsh judgment to himself.

"Whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council." – Matthew 5:22. In the second stage of development, the son or daughter of man must have a "just" or righteous cause for his anger and destruction. Yet anger is a killer; it slashes the aura of its target and attacks the weakest physical point (as revealed by the astrological birth chart). An explosion occurs that forms a disease and the body may die. Anger reacts more than physically, it kills hope, love, the positive virtues, and is a perfect way of slowly destroying yourself.

"But whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hellfire." – Matthew 5:22. In this stage, you use "righteous judgment," yet Jesus says that if you call your brother a fool, you are in danger of hellfire. This is a law.

Hebrew law unfolds the stated commandments. For example, each verse of Psalm 119 unfolds a statute or law. The verses are arranged in twenty-two groups of eight verses. Each group begins with a different number-letter (Aleph, Beth, Gimel, etc.). You can use this code to unfold and analyze the word HELL:

"H" is the ladder of Light. It represents angels at your elbows, the crutches you use, the legs you stand on and the rungs of the ladder you climb.

"E" represents the Mother of earth, creative Mother Love, the nurturing Power of God expressing as you to nourish and sustain everything of earth.

"L" represents the Via Christa, the Way of Christ, the path you tread and initiations you take consciously or unconsciously.

"L" is also the heavenly fire of glory and Light that descends as God's Power moves through you for ascension.

You suffer hellfire when the divine fire of God moves through you for your ascension. In this stage, you must know that you have a place to go.

You could never ascend the three necessary steps and emerge from the creature state of consciousness to being a creator without being burnt by hellfire. It is a long step from the creature to the son of God, from irresponsibility to realizing what happens every time you destroy.

Cause and effect teaches you that you must eat your idle words and sacrifice selfish "little me." The creature consciousness "believes in" and "tries" to do just enough to "get away with it." They "try" to love their enemies. They "try" to become law, but creature consciousness can't stand the heat in the kitchen.

The son or daughter of man consciousness is an intuitive knowing that does not depend on hindsight. Here you may not know everything, but you trust that God does. These three steps integrate belief with knowing and comprehension. The son or daughter of God consciousness is comprehension. As a "do-er," the creator agrees with God and adjusts to man without arguing, for he does not need to.

To become a son of God, you must learn the law of cause and effect. The son (or daughter) of God learns that what he sends out returns to him sevenfold. He realizes that he must sacrifice the little self, not just "believe" and "try." What better gift can you lay on the altar? What else can you give but your little self of subconscious mind?

To ascend from belief to comprehension, you move through five stages: First, you hear about truth. Second, you talk about truth. Third, you think about truth. Fourth, you then begin to do all that truth requires. From doing, you finally become truth. You cannot become truth without taking these five steps.

No one can be truth without doing truth. Most people say, "I'll try." Trying is the neophyte state between thinking about truth and being truth. Yet you must go through the interval of trying until you convince your self to just do it. You fumble through these stages blindly until you finally realize that this means you.

You move from trying to doing when you can ask, "Why doesn't law work for me?" Jesus said, "Agree with thine adversary quickly while thou art in the way with him; lest anytime the adversary deliver thee to the judge and the judge deliver thee to the officer and thou be cast into prison." – Matthew 5:25. Who is this adversary? What is this judgment? Who is this officer? What is this prison?

Every time you raise your voice in criticism, anger or ridicule, you invest soul substance in that person or condition. You may not criticize or condemn yourself either. You can invest so much soul substance in condemnation and hatred that you have very little left. The doers of darkness use what you send out in hate. At last you realize that you have no adversary except your own little self.

Petty "little me" can use its soul substance investing negatively in others until it becomes the "dweller on the threshold of consciousness," an aggregate of opinions and prejudices, all the evils the self creates through its own misuse of substance and law. When you descend in consciousness or lose your place through misuse of law, you must start over in the ascent through the stages.

"I'll try" means that you are holding out on God. In this stage, you are merely "trying" to ascend, but are still holding onto the presumed "right" to use hate or anger. You still believe you hold the right to call others names until you learn the danger of hellfire in name-calling: You stamp your name in black on every ugly name you call another; thus, you create darkness.

Nothing lies between blessing and cursing; no difference separates a country and a man you curse – you invest your soul substance in both. You give soul substance to what you condemn. People can lose the body because they invest world governments with soul substance as they criticize. Those whom they condemn live on the criticizer's soul substance. Some may give people a chunk of their soul, opinion by opinion, until they have nothing left.

What is this judgment? The creature lives by three urges: Eating, sleeping and mating. The creature "kills" anything that gets in his way. Conscience in the creature rolls over and yawns. This is the first step. The development of good judgment means that the creature has reached the degree of conscience where God can bestow the first portion of a living soul.

You cannot judge or discern when this occurs. At the first moment the living soul touches and begins to hover, the creature does not yet know that it exists. When conscience begins to awaken the first inspiration, aspiration begins the long travail of ascension.

Who is the officer? Remorse. As the living soul descends, awakening brain cells, conscience arouses remorse and the "officer" of conscience delivers one to the prison, which is regret. What is the prison of regret? When you are quiet and alone in regret, remorse and grief make you sorry; that is the second step.

The desire to do something about it is the third step. The soul activates the awakened brain cells, the creature's rational soul takes charge and the "try" stage is born. To try is an act of growth here. Until you hear about it, conscience cannot be born. The creature tries to do something and awakens into the remorse stage, where an albatross of guilt plagues him. One who rehashes his guilt is in the unconscious remorse stage. When he tires of chewing the cud, he enters the "doing" stage.

You move from belief to knowing. Since you take initiations along the way, you are always in danger of going off the deep end through pride. You pass three steps in trying to cross the great abyss between blind faith and knowing faith.

When you become a son or daughter of man, you also take three steps. To accept, you must become as perfect as your Father in heaven.

Pretense is not good enough. The tricks of black magic, such as manipulation and deceit, can give a person something for nothing in the short term, but work in reverse over the long haul, exacting a terrible price.

When you try long enough, it becomes an act of faith. You must go through the action of trying between the stages of blind faith and belief. Finally, your knowing and faith are one.

In the struggle from belief to faith, from trying to doing, come the initiations through which you cleanse selfish "little me." Looking down the nose at family is easy for creature consciousness. Any negative habit is of the creature state.

In becoming a son of man, you also take three steps. You reach the point where you really accept that you must become perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect and continually strive for this perfection. Or you regress to the son of man stage or even to the creature stage. No matter how high you climb, you can slide down the greased pole of self.

The Master said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." – Matthew 6:33. The Father and the Heavenly Hierarchy are weary of you investing your soul substance in negativity: The time is now. You can no longer wait to be good. You must ascend to become the fourth dimensional step, from the son of God to the creator stage.

What gift have you to take to the altar but the little self? Give the gift of self to God and cover the transgressions of others with Light. The time has come to forget to take advantage of others or of a situation.

Begin to lift your enemies. Declare, "I accept that this has come into my life. Within it I find my lost soul substance." As you lift it to a cloud continent of Light and declare it good and very good, God adds as much soul substance as you have redeemed for purification. He reinvests it as a gift – new soul substance returned with 100 percent interest.

When you say, "I accept. I agree. I have no living adversary. At last I act with the Power using me as its servant," you redeem your unwisely invested soul substance. This is the state of comprehension, the creator state, the fourth dimension of all Power, all Love. This is the place of becoming. Thus, you move from doing to becoming. The step into the creator stage is the step into the realm of the miraculous. You cannot bridge this abyss alone because it takes a high son of God as a leader to speak the Word.

Jesus spoke the Word for us when he said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." – John 14:12.

One definition of healing is the descent of the living soul. Healing means that enough Light, as atomic energy, is directed into the dark place that spews it up to be cured. Though the healing lasts only two days or two years, the recipient becomes conscious for a time and ascends. "Physician, heal thyself." The creature or the child of earth cannot ask this.

Seek people to help. God cannot heal anyone until his darkness comes to the surface. If you send enough atomic energy into the dark space, it burns out the dross there and in you.

When you have returned all wrongly invested soul substance to the altar with your gift of self, you pause to agree and adjust, to stand in the Light before you speak the Word. This is taking time to become a creator. So often you do not take time to ascend into the Light. When you ascend to be a fourth dimensional creator, you have reached that place. You have learned the glory of agreeing to be a creator.

I Agree in Time 1

This Edna Lister sermon outline is dated July 1, 1951, Buffalo New York.

The Sermon on the Mount covers every angle of human relationship and three stages of evolution. All stages of consciousness can understand the Sermon at some level.

The creature-state of consciousness understands "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill. Whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment." – Matthew 5:21.

The son or daughter of man state of consciousness comprehends "Whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council." – Matthew 5:22.

The son or daughter of God state of consciousness knows "But whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hellfire." – Matthew 5:22.

The first step belongs to the creature only, the one who kills for the lust and love of destruction. In the second step of development, the son or daughter of man must have a just or righteous cause for his anger and destruction. At the third step in development, the son or daughter of God learns the folly of calling names, and the difference between being judgmental and judging righteous judgment.

The creator knows that the first misstep softens morale and the moral stance. Each misstep weakens the moral fiber, inevitably leading to the point where only selfish desires remain, until you cannot say yes or no.

The creature consciousness "believes in" law. The son or daughter of man consciousness is "knowing" that law is. The son or daughter of God consciousness comprehends law. The creator becomes law in the fourth dimension of the invisible universe.

You gain fourth dimensional success by "agreeing with the adversary" or having the adversary take you to the judge, who hands you to the officer, who casts you in prison. Who is this adversary? Who is this judge? Who is this officer? Where is this prison?

Three other stages mark the living soul's descent. Creature consciousness gives way to the judge of conscience, who hands you to the officer of guilt, who casts you into the prison of regret.

Creature consciousness, awakening to the living soul, gives the first indication of a judge, his conscience. With more Light entering, the officer of remorse begins to make you conscious of guilt, which leads to anguish and feeling without hope. Thus, the self is cast into the prison of regret, and must repent to be set free.

The living soul descends, one degree at a time, from conscience to regret. This process integrates other states of consciousness as well: Conscience hears about truth, remorse talks about it, and regret thinks about it. From the first glimmering of conscience to regret, you awaken a desire to do something about it. Yet you waste time "trying" to forgive self and others. The son of man consciousness excuses, justifies and exalts the self, but is doing something, even if treading up and down on the same step.

The son of God must lay his gift of the little self on that altar and seek his brother, to redeem his own soul substance. Only then can he know freedom. You must recall all the soul substance you invested as you stamped your name all over those whom you have criticized and condemned.

From the son of God consciousness, it is only one step up to creator consciousness in the fourth dimension of invisible substance. From the doing stage, you reach the becoming stage.

Declare, "I accept that all my creations are now good. I accept all responsibility. Above all, I accept that comprehension is becoming law and giving my great gift of self to God, all in the fourth dimensional realm."

No one can understand the Bible without knowing and comprehending its code of Light. Biblical revelation is a key to humanity's search for soul growth. The Sermon on the Mount holds the soul mysteries, but the code is difficult to decipher.

We use logic, reason, discernment, discrimination, and discretion to rearrange and unfold the steps, to learn how to become a servant of all Power. The ancient schools veiled the mysteries because if they were as obvious as A, B, C, those who consorted with darkness would have burst the universe asunder with their misuse of Power.

So, the ancients made it hard to read the Bible's code of Light. You must discover, then comprehend this code for soul growth.

The Sermon on the Mount is our textbook of life. It covers every angle of human relationship, and the living soul's ascent in three definite stages of development from creature to creator.

The world's creatures believe in the natural "law of the jungle," self-preservation and self-defense, and show fear instinctively. They ignore "you shall not murder," and kill for the lust of destruction.

The devastation would continue wholesale if divine law provided no repayment. Since the creature consciousness must learn a good hearty fear of retribution, law's reciprocal judgment is harsh. One who judges another unjustly draws harsh judgment to himself.

"But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire." – Matthew 5:22. In the son of man stage, one believes he has a just cause for his anger, which he calls "righteous judgment." However, he is usually self-righteous.

Anger is a killer, which slashes the aura, attacks the weakest physical point of its target, creates the climate for disease, and the body may die. Anger kills positive virtues, such as hope and love, and is a perfect way of slowly destroying you.

In the son of God stage, you know the higher law of action and reaction, of cause and effect: If you indulge self once, you will indulge self often, including slander, gossip and hate. You do not dare to point a finger, or hold scorn or contempt for others, knowing you will meet "hell fire" in initiations. Hebrew law unfolds the stated commandments, and we can use this code to unfold and analyze the word "Hell":

H represents a ladder of Light that represents angels at your elbows, crutches you use, legs you stand on, and the rungs you climb.

E represents creative Mother Love on earth, God's nurturing Power expressing as you to nourish and sustain.

L represents the Via Christa, the Way of Christ, the path you tread and initiations you take consciously or unconsciously.

L is also the heavenly glory and Light of God's Power that descends and moves through you for Ascension.

Symbolically, "Hell fire" is God's divine fire moving through you for ascension, and what a comfort it is to know that you have a higher place to go. You can never ascend as a creator unless the little self is burned away.

What along step you must take to become a son or daughter of God, from irresponsibility to realizing that what you send out returns sevenfold as cause and effect. You must sacrifice "little me" and eat your idle words.

The creature "believes" and "tries" just enough to get away with it. He "tries" to love his enemies, "tries" to conquer self, but cannot stand the heat in the kitchen. The son of man's "knowing" comprehension never depends on hindsight. You may not know everything, but you trust that God does.

You integrate and ascend from belief to comprehension in five stages: you hear about truth, talk about truth, think about truth, begin to do what truth requires, and from doing, you become truth. you cannot reach truth without these five steps, and no one can be truth without doing truth.

As a do-er, the creator agrees with God and adjusts to man without arguing, because he does not need to. As a creator, you enter the invisible fourth dimension to live by the Oversoul's laws, which bring greater health, wealth and security.

Most people are still in the "I'll try" Neophyte state between thinking about truth and being truth. You "try" and fumble blindly until you realize that this means you. You begin "doing" when you ask "Why doesn't the law work for me?"

Jesus said, "Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift." – Matthew 5:23-24.

What better gift can you lay on the altar than your little self? What else can you give? You must sacrifice the little self, not just "believe" and "try." Give God your gift of self while you cover others' transgressions with Light. You forget to take advantage of others, or of a situation.

You begin to lift your enemies into the Light, saying, "I accept that this has come into my life. I find my lost soul substance within this." God adds as much purified soul substance as you have redeemed, as you lift and declare it good and very good. He reinvests it in you as a gift with 100 percent interest.

Who is this adversary, this judge, this officer? What is this prison? You invest soul substance when you raise your voice in anger, criticize or ridicule yourself or others. The doers of darkness use your negative expressions.

At last you see that the petty little self is your only adversary, which can squander soul substance until it becomes a "dweller on the threshold" of consciousness, an aggregate of opinions, prejudices, the evils the self creates in its misuse of soul substance and law. You lose your place by misuse and must start again to learn, apply and practice law to stay on the path. "I accept. I agree and have no living adversary. At last I act with Power using me as its servant."

"I'll try" holds out on God. You are "trying" to ascend, but still reserving the so-called right to hatred or anger until you learn the danger of hell fire in name-calling: You stamp your name in black with every ugly epithet you call another, and create darkness.

Nothing lies between blessing and cursing. Law recognizes no difference between cursing a country, or a man. You invest soul substance in what you condemn. In an extreme case, you could lose your body by criticizing your worst favorites, who live on your soul substance. You give them a chunk of you, opinion by opinion, until you have nothing left.

The creature lives by urges, eating, sleeping and mating, and "kills" what gets in his way. Conscience is the "judge." The first step up is when conscience rolls over and yawns. We cannot predict when conscience will awaken, for God judges when the creature has earned the first portion of a living soul, which consists of the same universal substance as a rose. God names and numbers the universal substance He used as He bestows the living soul.

The selfish creature aspires with the soul's first touch, breathes in the soul and is inspired by it. Conscience begins to stir with the first inspiration, and aspiration prompts the soul to begin the long travail of Ascension. As the living soul descends to awaken dormant brain cells, the "officer" of soul conscience arouses remorse and delivers you to the prison of regret, which is repenting quietly and alone, after remorse and grief make "little me" sorry. The soul takes charge and begins "trying," which is an act of growth here.

When the creature hears about law, conscience awakens a sense of remorse, and an albatross of guilt plagues him. One who rehashes his guilt is unconsciously remorseful, and begins doing when he tires of chewing the cud. The desire to do is the third step. You must accept that you will someday become as perfect as your Father in heaven, and pretense is not enough. Trickery may give you something for nothing temporarily, but works in reverse over the long haul.

Keep trying between the stages of blind faith and belief, and when you have tried long enough, it becomes an act of faith. Faith and knowing must become one. You take many initiations to cleanse "little me" during the struggle from belief to faith, from trying to doing. The creature easily looks down the nose at family and the world.

The son of man must accept that he must strive continually to become perfect as his Father in heaven, or he regresses, even to the creature stage. No matter how high you climb, you can always slide down the greased pole of self.

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." – Matthew 6:33. God is drawing earth to the heart-fires of His Love and you cannot "wait until later" to be good. Ascend to the fourth dimensional step and make room for your angelic Oversoul, which descends and lifts you into the creator state.

Creator comprehension is the fourth dimension of all Power and Love, where you move from doing into becoming. The creator bridges the abyss of self and enters the realm of the miraculous. Healing is the descent of the living soul, which happens when you direct enough Light, as atomic energy, into the dross to burn out the dark place that spews it.

God cannot heal anyone until his darkness surfaces. He becomes conscious for a time and ascends, though the healing may last only temporarily, until he accepts that "Physician, heal thyself" – Luke 4:23, means him.

So often we fail to take time to ascend into the Light, which is taking time to become a creator. Creatures and the sons of man do not know how to ask for this, yet we, as creators-in-training, can seek people to help. When you ascend to the fourth dimension, you have learned the glory of agreeing to be a creator.

Salvation Through Faith 1

This Edna Lister sermon outline is dated July 10, 1955, Tacoma, Washington. Scripture: Matthew 5:25-26, Philippians 2:5-8.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." – Philippians 2:5-8.

You are concerned about your place in life from your first consciousness as an individual until you finish with earth. You spend your early years in preparation for, the next year's finding, then the long struggle comes to hold what you have gained.

All along the way, you are forced to choose between this and that. You think you are settled, but something from the outside moves in and upsets your plans and place.

If your place in the world is your only hope, you are headed in the wrong direction. If you grow over-satisfied, you grow complacent in your physical, emotional and mental "fat." If you are dissatisfied, you grouch, whine and complain because your vibration has dried up until "no one is home."

You put yourself under the pair of opposites, up and down. It follows that you fall prey to the "enemy" idea. You sink lower and do less.

The basement is three steps down, but the tower room of the golden silence is only one step up in consciousness.

People complain, "How can I agree when the other fellow is wrong?" It is not wrong for them. They are right, for them. No law says that you must do the wrong thing for you. But you can say, "You are right." This is true for them and satisfies them. If you, knowing this, become hurt or offended, and blame them, the "enemy" idea, your self-created adversary, soon turns you over to your own soul for judgment. Your soul is the judge, who rules that you are wrong, and the "officer of the day," Mister Regret, takes charge.

Only one step down creates your adversary and makes it easier to take another step down. Officer Regret puts you in the prison of remorse, where you languish and grieve, wallowing in your selfish sense of grief. One step up, and you arise and go to your Father, your high place, the only satisfying place that never changes. No one can ever interfere with your place at the window of heaven, where you draw on your inheritance from the Source of Power and joy. The process of moving up costs you four steps, but the act of a miracle moves up in one.

This is your background for attaining the act of a miracle. To be equal with God is not robbery. We are all equal in our ability to serve, to surrender, to be obedient. As a servant, used by all Power and all love, you express God's attributes and qualities as your actions. God works to will and to do, and it is His good pleasure to give you His kingdom because you are working out your own salvation by loving enough.

Salvation Through Faith 2

This Edna Lister sermon transcript is dated July 10, 1955, Tacoma, Washington. Scribe: Ruth Bender Collord. Scriptures: Matthew 5:25-26, Philippians 2:5-8.

From his earliest consciousness, a child reaches out for a place on earth. We all have brain bells called neurons, which carry the memories of what laws we must use every day of our earth life. The memories of law register on your brain cells, and you review them to remember what to do. Hindsight is casting the mind over the negatives, how you failed in "what to do."

You spend your early years preparing yourself for this place. Then you spend years finding this place, and the rest of your life in holding onto it. When you grow complacent, you grow "fatty cells" in your brains, on the inner and in your outer body.

Some adults never grow out of the infant stage. They see another's position and want that. They want the place another made instead of what they could create. If you do this, you put yourself under the domination of the opposite.

Expressing dissatisfaction with your place, whining, complaining, grudging, causes you to take a long step down. It does not get you anywhere when you prod and poke; like poking a stick at a toad, its just hops a little further away.

These two verses in Matthew's fifth chapter provide an outline for glory, and how to ascend in consciousness. "Agree with thine adversary quickly," otherwise the adversary will deliver you to the judge, who will hand you over to the officer, who will cast you into prison. It's just four steps to the bottom.

First is, "I agree" means, "You are right." That is the truth. Even a lie is the truth for the liar. The fault in you that the other fellow notices is seeing; he must see it in someone else first to become conscious of it within himself.

Some see the faults only in others, never in themselves, which is infantile, but is the first step. He is a teacher unless you make him into an adversary.

No one can accurately judge you by the way you look. You judge by what you see, and by your own state of development. The other fellow gives you a truth of the moment. Accepting this, with "I agree," is obeying the first law of ascension to open the records, but you may charge no debt of blame.

When you say, "You are right," the Light moves in and through you. Then go to the altar and check that this is so. When you say, "It's his, not mine," you name him an adversary.

Then you will be brought before the judge of your own soul, your conscience. Officer Regret puts you into the prison of remorse.

Coming up and paying to the last penny is an act of contrition and surrender. Then you stand under the Light, saying, "Father, please wipe it out," and apologize on the outer. This pays your debt on the "cash and carry" plan of life.

"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God." – Philippians 2:5-6.

These verses tell you that you are equal in the right to find the place of destiny that God gave you, to use the attributes that God gave you, to become I AM THAT I AM. Do not consider it robbery to claim an inheritance in God.

You seek first your place in the kingdom of heaven by giving all others their own place in the kingdom according to their present state of consciousness.

The Book of Job shows that God's promises are always fulfilled eventually. It's a how-to manual to reach your salvation and inheritance. I AM the Power moving from the heart of God to fulfill this salvation now.

Agreeing and Adjusting

This Edna Lister Bible study outline is dated October 14, 1955, Tacoma, Washington. Scripture: Matthew 5:25.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." – Matthew 5:25.

The "enemy" idea presupposes that some adversary exists outside of you, not within your own consciousness. This, in fact, is untrue. The first place to look for the enemy is within the self.

The first law in ascension of consciousness is to accept everything that comes as something that the Father is depending on you to lift into the Light, or to fill with Light, if the thing is evil. You agree with God that all things are good, even the evil and the stinkers. Their substance is God's and is perfect despite what they may have done to it.

When you have agreed with God that this is good, you will find it a simple matter to adjust to the peculiarities, inanities and downright nastiness of your fellow man. Even the evil ones you may meet are nothing more than fuel for the fires of your ascension.

People ask, "How do I lift?" The simplest approach is to think of lifting as a game of "Pretend." Imagine that you see the person on a cloud of Light, kneeling before an altar. Or imagine yourself sitting in a beautiful garden, filled with Light and the most gorgeous flowers, whatever you think makes a perfect garden.

First, fill your prayers with praise. Then declare, "I AM now enfolded in the heart of a sphere of Light. I AM now touching this innermost Power. This Power goes forth to accomplish, to fulfill my decrees. This Light is divine, complete, all-seeing, all-knowing. Let me be fully surrendered for this Power to use. I am now open to receive full illumination."

Now decree perfection of healing for all those whom you have lifted. Preface every decree you make with the nonresistant "Let" that releases the Power without using force.

New Testament on Agreeing and Adjusting

Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him, lest at any time the adversary (little self) deliver thee to the judge (Oversoul), and the judge deliver thee to the officer (self-condemnation) and thou be cast into prison (grief about your negligence and disobedience to laws and your ideals). – Matthew 5:25.

If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. – Matthew 18:19.
