Guardian Angels: What They Do
Linda Mihalic, September 13, 1987, Tacoma, Washington
Psalm 91:11 tells us that God “will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” These angels are Guardian Angels who have only one job, which is to take care of you day and night. I call my Guardian Angels my “Guard,” but you can call them angels if you choose. Most people refer to them as he or him because they say they sound like an older brother, or someone they know well. The first time I ever heard my Guard, I thought it was my dad at first. But I know a few people who hear a woman’s loving voice.
All Guardian Angels belong to the Legions of Jesus Christ. They are like an army and their task is to care for every souls on earth, whether the people believe in them or not. They are always there. Your Guard can think to you or talk to you. You may not hear him as a regular human voice like someone in the room—instead you may hear him in your head, which means he is thinking to you.
Your Guard will never tell you what to do, though he may shout “No!” or “Stop!” if you are in danger. In extreme danger, he could even lift you up and away from an accident. Or you might suddenly think an idea that seems perfectly right—such ideas always feel warm, right or good, like being hugged. A Guard’s idea will make you stop and think before you make a mistake or do something that will get you into trouble. If the idea is something you wonder about or know you should not do, it is not your Guard thinking to you.
You can always talk to your Guard any time, or think to him. And you can always talk to Master Jesus, who will send a special angel to you if you need one. In fact, if you do talk to him regularly as your best friend, your life will run much more smoothly and easily. So, you must always remember that he is there, always ready and willing to take care of you and to help.
Your Guards are not allowed to interfere with you or to tell you what to do. So you must remember to ask for help. Whenever you are not sure what to do—maybe you don’t have time to ask your mom or dad, or your brother or sister—you can always ask your Guard for help. Then you must be be quiet. Be quiet inside your head and listen.
The instant you ask a question or for help a recording angel writes it and sends it to God. The answer comes from God, but He instantly sends a messenger angel to your Guard with the message you need. A messenger angel speaks God’s word. All God’s messages to you will come through your Guard’s voice, because you know him best.
A Guard can speak for the Father because he can do only the Father’s Will. Your Guard can do nothing on his own but what is GOOD. He serves God by guarding you. So the true Guard will give you the “true” Word of the Father.
Sometimes, you may have powerful thoughts that are not good, that don’t feel right. Then you must remember to ask for the right answer and for the help to overcome the dark thoughts. Your Guard is there to help, but he is not allowed interfere with you. If you choose to listen to the not-so-good thoughts, he can’t stop you, because you are free to do what you choose. But you can ask for God’s Light to protect you and to guard your ears and defend you from what you may hear.
Declaring Protection: Whenever something happens that makes you afraid or uncomfortable, you can protect yourself by saying a simple prayer. You don’t need to say it aloud, but it really helps if you do.
Lord Jesus Christ, let me see only your face! Let me hear only your voice! Let me feel only your presence! When you say this, you make a choice, a powerful declaration of independence from darkness. You’re like an angel blowing a huge trumpet; anything dark in the world knows it better not come near you because you’ve called on Light to surround you—Light, the greatest protection that there is. All angels report to Jesus the Christ. Remember, he said, “I and my Father are one.” So he is the Commander in Chief of God’s Army, the Host of Heaven. He’s in charge of all the legions of angels.
The Book of Revelation describes him. “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And…his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.”–Revelation 19:11-13 He is “the Lamb of God,” and he rides a huge white horse, and on the horse’s saddle blanket is written, The Faithful and The True.
Some angels guard us, but other types of angels protect whole cities, and groups of people. Other types of angels take care of entire countries, like England or France, Australia, Brazil, or Japan. Some angels are “roving angels,” on temporary assignment, helping wherever they are needed. If a volcano erupts, an earthquake, tidal wave, or flood happens, these “roving angels” go there to take care of the people. They help all the guardian angels do their job.
Archangels have more responsibility than any others. An Archangel is in charge of many legions, like divisions in an army. You’ve heard of army officers—sergeants, captains, colonels and generals. the Archangels are the heavenly generals. An army can have many generals, but only one is Supreme Commander of the Army. And all generals, report to the Supreme Commander of the Army of the Faithful and the True, who is the Lord Jesus, Christed of God.
A friend said he had never seen an angel with wings before. I hadn’t either, until I saw someone else’s angel; then I saw wings. People who have seen one all describe it in nearly the same way—like a fluffy cloud of white Light, not a harsh blinding Light but bright and easy to look at. You may not see their body, but they glow and shine. Looking into that Light feels good—warm and loved.
Sometimes your Guard sweeps his wings around to hold you inside. He does that when you really need a whole lot of love. He may enfold you in his wings, but he can’t hold you there forever, or you would become dependent on him. You wouldn’t learn to do what you need to do, which is to grow up, and learn to make all the right choices on your own. Otherwise you would be just a robot! You’d be taking angel orders, not thinking and choosing your own way in life.
The whole beauty of being alive and on earth, is that God lets us make mistakes to learn our lessons. You will learn how to make every mistake good, even though it seems like the worst mistake you ever made—you can make it good with God’s help.
Why don’t adults act like this way? Your parents find it as difficult to remember things as you do. Maybe you’ve never thought of that, but it’s true. Remember, they were once where you are, listening to their parents, feeling just as confused, uncertain and unhappy as you have. They forget to talk to their guardian angels, too. Remembering is easier to learn to do when you are young, like you. If you forget, well, we all make mistakes. Some moms and dads are just now learning to do it all over again. That’s part of being a grown-up.
God doesn’t punish you every time you make a mistake. He gives you all the time you need to figure it out. When you are young, you are trapped in time, and everything seems to be moving so slowly. The older you get, the quicker time seems to pass. So mom and dad are already suffering from the illness of time.
The White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland ran around shouting, “I’m late! I’m late for a very important date! No time to say hello, good bye, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late!” That describes so many adults who suffer from the “White Rabbit Syndrome”—they were supposed to remember all these things, but didn’t.
Now they are waking up and trying to make up for lost time. So they hustle and bustle through life, trying to make up for what they didn’t do when they were young—to make up for all their mistakes, for what they feel guilty or bad about because they worry that God might punish them. It is easier to take time now to listen and to remember, to talk to God. When you feel like you’ve run out of time, you get sick from the “White Rabbit Syndrome.”
The White Rabbit made it to the tea party just in time; he only thought he was late. Really, it’s a matter of how you see it. The tea party happens whenever you get there. The party that God’s giving is always going on, and any time you arrive, the party is for you, and you are never late. It’s all right there, and you can go anytime you like. You must remember that. Your Guardian Angel will take you there when you are ready.
“Now I lay me down to sleep, and I pray the Lord my soul to keep, and should I fly before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
So when you say your bedtime prayers, say, “Now I lay me down to sleep, and I pray the Lord my soul to keep, and should I fly before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.”
Most people don’t remember what they do at night. You may have dreams; some are fun and others are not. Everyone has had at least one nightmare. Your soul never ever goes to sleep; just your body does! As you drift off to sleep, your soul wakes up. You sit up, right out of your body, and of course, you can see your Guards. Your soul eyes see your Guardian Angel. Your soul is that part of you that is closest to God, so you have no problem seeing the angels. They say, “Ready?” And you answer, “Yes, I am!” and off you go!
You do just as much at night in Heaven as you ever do during the days here on earth. Souls don’t need any sleep. All night long you are busy, and sometimes you remember it, or think that you dreamed it. The “world” calls that dreams. The “world” is trying to tell you what you can and cannot do. The “world” has nothing to do with your soul. Your soul is free, and the world can never touch it.
All you need to say is “Now I lay me down to sleep, and I pray the Lord my soul to keep. And should I fly before, before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take!”
Do you ever dream of flying? I know that you can fly, because, so can I. The best part about going to bed is that your soul is not a “little kid.” Your soul is older than you can imagine and it never ages. Only bodies are young and only bodies grow old or wear out. So fly! Fly! Fly!
