Edna Lister’s Sermons 1954

From Surrender to Ascension

Edna Lister sermon transcript|January 15, 1954|Honolulu, Hawaii|Scribe: Kay Wilder Abstein|Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-15

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ."—Ephesians 4:1-15.

Soul Ascension is the path we have traveled since we began incarnating on earth. Which part of you does the directing, the self or the soul, your attraction to the world or to inner glory, sets the keynote of whether you surrender, and to what degree.

"Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things."—Ephesians 4:9. The law compelled Jesus to descend before he could ascend.

When you purchase a product in the business world, you exchange money as the substance for it. The only payment for the misuse of Mind, Substance and Power is to cover it with almighty love.

Jesus conquered some common sin for everyone, and he gave love to cover the cost of sins. You cannot wipe out a soul debt by simply saying, "I forgive you," but must cover it with love. That is the law.

"There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."—Ephesians 4:4-6.

Each person uses the terms, body, Spirit, faith, and law in a different way. We can all pick blossoms from the same tree, but none of us can pick the same flower.

We are all made in the image and likeness of God, but even identical twins differ in subtle ways. The Holy Ghost, the very breath you draw, is a consuming fire, a Light that must move through the body to devour negative thoughts, fears and doubts.

When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.—Ephesians 4:8. Dynamic deep breathing is part of ascension on high. God knew that we would be too lazy to breathe, so He made it automatic. Yet some people still die because they do not breathe deeply enough.

First, surrender to the idea that God is, and you are part of Him. The "high" in "on high" is the joy of finding God and receiving His joy. Joy is the new name for the Holy Ghost. A captive is in bondage, someone whose material goods or relatives possess him.

You are not on earth to be served, made happy, to demand of others, to have everything made beautiful for you, but to serve, make others happy and give, give, give.

Rebirth, transformation and transfiguration are the three steps to ascension. You are reborn every time you look up and find God, but must also be reborn with each breath you inhale. You can be reborn every minute because transformation goes on constantly.

It can take days, sometimes years to bring forth a new body part for healing. Continue breathing the high breath, and every time you give up fears, resentments or negative emotions, it transforms you. Finally, you take half a breath here, and half there, while you stand here, balanced. For example, you step out of this earthly body and go over to the inner every night.

We have built the soul of a College of Ascension with every prayer we have made for it, and it will be visible when we precipitate its body. By the work of our hands, by the love in our hearts and souls, we will bring this to pass. Yes, I believe that God could precipitate the buildings for our College right now. We do it the long way, but who would say it is not good?

You are learning how to cooperate with God, and have reached the Mount of Transfiguration, the point where Spirit begins to show. You "see the unseen" when you have melted and dissolved all darkness between.

When Jesus passed to the other side, the Power his sacrifice released then lifted the veil and the vibration of everything around him. Scripture says that "the dead walked." They were there the whole time, but not visible.

Transfiguration is knowing, just knowing that God as love is. Love's answer is always yes. Love is perfection. When love moves in, it brings only perfection.

When you transfigure the inner emotional life, when you surrender the mental life to the Mind of God, calling everything good, then love can do the work. You do not want just to call your enemies "good," but to shine by comparison.

The subconscious mind knows nothing, but follows and takes its direction from the emotional life. The soul says, "I can go forty days without food or rest, and work in the vineyard." Your soul's renewal transforms you.

Your eyes, endocrine glands and nervous system are gifts the Almighty Father has given you, in which He put part of Himself. When you say, "Look at me," you close out the Holy Breath, which fuels the physical body for daily metabolism, exercise, work and the giving of gifts. You limp and drag, saying, "Go away, Holy Breath," and you flop. Are you proud of having cut off the magnetic ray of Power?

Surrender of self is the beginning. Always speak lovingly, and give the body a chance to ascend in vibration. You transform Light into the negatives, so why not practice the opposite? The Power and Love of God are perfect now.

Unload your ship of dreams with me, and dump the spoiled cargo. Fill your ship's hold with good things — vacations, cars, homes, beautiful furnishings, health, and miracles for everyone.

See the hold filled with Light, and a cargo of gold, jewels and riches, where everyone can go for supply, for it is always full of everything you use as a medium of exchange.

When God's Voice calls, do not hide in a bomb shelter or a vault. Let love fill your life and provide for everyone on your ship. Let your light so shine before men that they see your good works and glorify your Father.

Unquenchable Love and Unconquerable Faith

Edna Lister Bible study outline|April 4, 1954|Tacoma, Washington|Scriptures: James 1:5-8, James 1:17, James 1:22-26

"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."—James 1:5-8.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."—James 1:17.

"Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain."—James 1:22-26.

To ascend to unquenchable love and unconquerable faith, you need a plan. Self always plans for its own advancement and exaltation. Soul plans to "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness."—Matthew 6:33.

Faith is the substance of creation, yet it comes in many grades of quality, from mud bricks made with straw to those made of sand and cement. Since you cannot alter the principle of faith, you finally understand that you must put your faith into action.

You can measure your faith's action component in quantity and quality, twenty-four hours a day or once a week, pure zeal or diluted indifference, lukewarmness, fears and doubts.

To plan how to go, you must know what you want, and hunger and thirst after righteousness. Your law of approach must be to Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and to name your creations good. Declare, "This is good and very good. I hear and I obey. I am. I can. I do."

Righteousness Is Soul Vision in Action

Edna Lister Good Friday Bible study outline|April 7, 1954|Tacoma, Washington|September 11, 1955|Scripture: Matthew 27:33-44.

"And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth."—Matthew 27:33-44.

Righteousness is the soul's vision in action, a state of living right. To be right, you must lay your personal will on the transverse of the cross of Crucifixion.

Light as Wisdom is the positive-acting emanation of illumination as I AM consciousness, the mind that was in Christ Jesus. Wisdom operates as will in man, called "free will" or "free choice." Light as Love is the negative-acting emanation of intuition as I AM consciousness. Love expresses as desire in man, and is the creative fire.

You cannot kill desire or get rid of will. Neither can you sacrifice will or desire, but you can cleanse the self. To achieve balance, desire must mate with will. As desire ascends, it becomes the flame to purify will, if you have laid it on the transverse of the cross.

The world is divided between those who are giving up self will and those who are expressing their so-called free will. The intellectuals argue that God bestowed the gift of will on us and we therefore must use it. They fear that by giving up their free will, they will become nonentities. So, they fear nonresistance.

To compound this conundrum, Eastern philosophy and puritanical religious sects have advocated killing desire, lumping the good with the not-so-good and calling it all "bad," "dirty," or "evil."

You express divine Love as desire, and divine Wisdom as will. To do so, you may choose to be a vessel,1 a channel,2 or an instrument of Love and Wisdom. Yet you cannot truly discover what free will is until you know what love is.

It is not that you have or do not have free will. Will and desire are functions of the soul indwelling the body. The action of free will is smooth, sweet and rhythmic, but the exercise of personal selfish will is a bumpy ride on a flat tire.

The real question is, How do I want to use my God-given, untouchable free will? Do I want to be a vessel, a channel or an instrument? A vessel holds something, usually a liquid, but unless you pour it out, its contents will evaporate and the residue will stink. A channel is just a groove, dug in the dirt. Like the man in the parable, who buried his talent, a channel gains and retains nothing.

A musical instrument gives. It stands ready to be used by the Almighty Symphonist to create beauty and harmony wherever it is played. You are free to choose what you give. Many people offer the world only static noise: "Do not scold me. Don't tell me I'm wrong. Pet me. Love me as I am. Praise me for being noble. Love me in spite of the rude noises I make." Such static whining only deafens your soul.

Truth is harmoniously beautiful, something that you hear, accept and become. Then you desire that others love you "because of" what you are becoming. Eventually, you freely lay all self upon the transverse of the cross for sacrifice. Then you shall be ready to ask, What do I want my free will to do for others?

Your Life Plan

Edna Lister sermon outline; May 16, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; June 6, 1954. Scripture: Matthew 16:24-28.

"Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."—Matthew 16:24-28.

The keys of the kingdom are the faith of God, the love of God, and the joy of God. These three form a high voltage atomic charge, which explodes as your physical, emotional and mental energy. Faith is the servant of God. Love fulfills the law, and joy is all atomic Power in action. To apply these principles, you must fit your keys into the doors of the kingdom. This text deals with death, Resurrection and Ascension.

The first step is to deny self, which is a death. It says to take up your cross, which we read as take your cross up with you. In other words, lift up and give up all pain, sorrow, all self-expressions of willfulness and rebellion. St. Paul said that you die daily, and you do. If you feed self, you starve your soul, little by little. Or you can and feed the soul until the little self dies to God. Resurrect the buried soul that the little self has dragged down. If you try to save little self's life, you lose the life of soul.

Ascension is to the individual soul what atomic research is to a scientist, a refining process that you cannot see, but whose results are visible. Living by soul shows, both in your daily life and in your outer results.

When you ascend selfish desires and will to become one with your soul desires and the free will of God, they fuse as Love and Wisdom in balance, which we call the I AM consciousness of super-conscious mind.

Desire and will express as the soul faculties of intuition and illumination. When I AM takes charge as Christed consciousness, imagination, which you used for imagery in the past, turns upward and becomes your guardian of life as soul vision.

Whatever you bind on earth, you also bind in heaven. Yet, by your spoken Word, you can free your thinking, imagination, and desires, emotions and feelings on earth, through statements and declarations of glory. You free and release joy in heaven, because the Father must say yes.

To choose a "right" way, you must have an inner conviction to stand, and the courage to stick to it. Your life's plan must have a goal, which comes only from knowing what you want to do. Then you must want it enough to die for it daily. To face the death of self daily opens you to life.

When you say, "I love you," love from friends and all over the world moves in through the heart and fills the solar plexus. It pushes up to open the throat, brow and crown centers of Power from within, to meet the Power descending. The resulting explosion of Light is the presence of God on earth acting through your surrendered will.

Your Life Plan

Edna Lister sermon transcript| May 16, 1954,|Cleveland, Ohio|Scribe: Ruth Johnson|Scripture: Matthew 16:24-28.

Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Verily I say unto you, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.—Matthew 16:24-28.

This text reveals how to enter the kingdom of heaven and reach oneness with God, which means loving God in complete comprehension. I will give you the keys of the kingdom. The door to the kingdom has a triple lock, and the keys are the principles of faith, love and joy of God, which form a high voltage charge that explodes into energy, physical, mental and emotional.

Faith is the name of the original potential energy, the invisible life sparks imperceptibly whirling with no apparent active vibration in the "void." Then God manifested as three Emanations: Wisdom Love and Energy.

Wisdom is the Father, who forms the pattern of the walls that hold the universe. Love is the Mother, who pours substance into and strengthens those walls. The Logos, the Son of Energy, opened the vibration of this primordial substance as joy.

So, the faith of God comes first because faith is the original substance that had to move from potentiality to actuality. Substance can express only when God has given the soul conscious direction and control over it. Substance is the Love of God in action.

Joy, which combines the Father and Mother's qualities and quantities of eternal time and infinite space, has always been the Son's name as Christ consciousness. Yet entire cultures have buried it under the desire to seek peace, which is a lesser expression of divine joy.

The soul has no joy principle without the fusion of Father Wisdom and Mother Love. I love you is a password for joy. To love God enough will give you all creative keys, but you must put these principles to work in your life and create the keys to unlock heaven's door.

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.—Matthew 16:24. This sermon had to deal with ascension, which follows death and resurrection. To deny your self is death to the self. Resurrect your self, lift it up, and give it up. Take your cross of pain, sorrow, willfulness or stubborn rebellion up with you.

St. Paul said, I die daily. You can either live by self and die to God, or feed your soul. If you live by self, God will take the little that you have, as in the Parable of the Talents. No one else, including your family, can experience your soul illumination, yet by loving them enough, they can receive their own greater illumination of soul.

Those who consider time and years, saying, I can't do what I did at thirty-five, lack enthusiasm toward life, and form a pattern of mental deterioration. People die in their heads before their bodies die. Let the little self of appetites and impulses die daily to its false god of intellect or you, the rational soul in you that worships God will die daily in bondage to the little self, unless you lift itonto a cloud continent of Light!

You may not want to sacrifice the self of your negative ideas and emotions, but to waste time with opinion and prejudice is like wearing a new dress over old rags. Self can dig a hole large enough to bury your soul. Resurrect the buried soul, which you have allowed the little self to drag down. Bury the dead self daily, but change its burial plot. Buy a cloud of Light instead, and bury all limitations there.

"Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."—Matthew 16:25. If you hold an idea that you are in bondage on earth, or fear stepping out on faith, you will lose your life. Choose and resurrect every dream. Death and Resurrection are inseparable when you decide to bury the dead up on a cloud of Light.

A great rule in living the ascended life is, It is never too late, just too soon. Grandma Moses began painting when she was eighty and became a famous success. Years do not matter, but you must want to comprehend and love God enough.

Ascension is to a soul what the search for finer degrees of subatomic substance is to science, a process of refining what God has given us. Selfish desire and will become the I AM of Christed consciousness when you ascend to mate them with soul desire and the will of God for you. Soul desire becomes intuition and the soul's will becomes illumination.

Imagination, which you turned down in imagery as a child, turns upward in contemplation of the divine. At a higher point in your ascension of the physical, imagination forms a pyramid-shaped cornucopia within the midbrain neurons, and Light opens your personal soul records to become spiritual vision. Imagination as soul vision then becomes your guardian of life.

Spiritual intuition and illumination serve as interpreters of soul vision, and you can use these faculties to apply the keys to Resurrection and Ascension. Unless you turn your imagination up, you prevent true interpretation of your soul's vision.

You can prepare for success in four steps — I accept, I surrender, I arise, and I ascend. Success has five keys — approach, choice, plan, responsibility and fulfillment. Choose your life plan and goal carefully, for you cannot do a million things at once. The main need is to choose the right way, create a comprehensive plan, and stick to it.

Your plan must include the faith, love, and joy of God, three keys that open the next door, but joy is the key that opens all locks. Joy is the highest state of Christed consciousness, and it grows from the inside, like peaches on a tree.

Hold an inner conviction of the rightness of the need to "deny self, take up the cross, and follow me." You can take up the cross, but your inner conviction lifts the cross until you are no longer cross-conscious. You feel crucified when you focus imagination downward. Your descent into a puddle of self-pity is as instantaneous a miracle as your ascension. So you curse or bless God, depending whether you go down or up in consciousness.

You are a creator and your life plan must create the new, letting the old die. From the moment you speak, God says yes. He put you here as a creator, and you create right when your inner conviction is Light.

You go through three stages to become a perfect instrument. Phineas Quimby taught about vessels.1 Someone must fill a vessel, since it cannot fill itself. Everyone starts as a "vessel of truth" living in Egypt, where they begin to hear about truth, but hold onto what they hear until it stagnates, dries up and stinks. Vessels eventually smell as though they are dying.

Channels have no conscious identity and cannot move. A water pipe does not consciously direct its content. Water just runs through it. F. L. Rawson, in Life Understood, wrote about metaphysical channels2 who do fine, prosaic but "dirty work." A channel lives in the Promised Land and may help to heal many by just letting Light flow through. But this is not enough to be a creator servant. Vessels and channels cannot and do not actively create, but forever do the same old work the same old way. A creator uses an instrument to produce something.

A creative instrument ascends from Egypt to the Garden of Eden to become the vitalized servant of almighty Power, to let the I AM of Christed consciousness take charge. As a true creator of good, ascension empties the self-delusion and illusion until you hold no detrimental thoughts. Covered by the love of God, you cover others with the love of God.

Once you ascend and pray your lines of Light taut, you are the mouthpiece for the Word of God's truth, an instrument upon which almighty Power plays a symphony of glory. All Power can use you when you become a perfect instrument for the One to speak through, direct, and control.

You can breathe the same atomic substance that a hydrogen bomb releases, and can gather that substance to run your physical equipment as a perfect instrument. An instrument declares everything good, knows that he has created his own enemies and can recreate them into friends of God, all by using these keys and turning imagination upward.

Power moves to heal wherever you consciously center your attention. You speak the Word and direct it to where God needs it for healing and divine activity, following every declaration with "Thank You, Father."

Joy is the keynote of miracles. Stop being a miraculous slider-downer. Be a miracle climber. Let soul vision guard your life as intuition and illumination interpret what you hear. Ascend to your own Garden of Eden.

Your Life Practice

Edna Lister sermon outline; May 23, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5.

"But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Brethren, pray for us. Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss. I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."—1 Thessalonians 5.

Your life practice is an intriguing thought, but your life practice of what? Your practice of Ascension. From Rebirth to Ascension, the whole story of Jesus' teaching is contained in "I believe to see." He had promised to appear to his disciples "in person." The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ1 records that he did so seventeen times. The Gospels contain eleven occurrences, from his appearance at the tomb to the events recorded in the last chapter of John, where he "precipitated" or "condensed" his desire body to be seen by physical eyes.

From January 12 to Ash Wednesday is a period of repentance, during which you take soul inventory. Lent is a period of sacrifice or "remission of sins." From Easter to Ascension Day, you release Power through surrender of self to sanctify your soul for the descent of the Holy Spirit. We call this period the Way of Initiation, the Via Christa, the Way of Christ.

To unfold the word "repentance," the prefix re- means "to refer to, to go back to," while pent means "closely confined, shut in, shut up" or "exclusive, wealthy." So, in repentance, we have a process of returning to a place, a previous state. Repentance is a Rebirth, to return to the penthouse of soul, Christ consciousness. Why do you need to return or be reborn? You must return to your original image and likeness of God in the Garden of Eden, but with full experience and wisdom.

A soul inventory requires that you make choices and decisions. So under repentance, you prepare to become an initiate. You hew a path though the jungle of self to find your buried treasure. You had forgotten where you had buried it. You dig in many places, until your hands are bleeding and life hurts.

This is the Rebirth. Your treasure is your "pearl of great price," which you buried when you left heaven, and can find only by ascending to the Garden of Eden.

"Remission" means that you return to God for your original mission, to make sacrifice to make room to be refueled with the Holy Spirit. During your "repentance" phase, you think about making sacrifices. From Ash Wednesday you ascend while in a consecrated state of Baptism by Water, to meet the Holy Spirit descending as a Baptism by Fire at Easter.

From Easter to Ascension Day, you "sanctify" yourself to surrender to God. Reborn and renewed, you are vitalized and quickened by the full descent of Christ Power.

You consecrate yourself with new vows, and become "set apart" as you observe these days as "holy," and free from "sin," which is disobedience. Consecration is full surrender and complete transformation.

So you choose. How do you go? You can "back out" by turning your back on the Light, you can "keep out" by doing nothing, or you can push out and up. You can "back away" and "keep away" from responsibility until soon the "little you have" is gone.

You may push up into a new place of glory, yet soon ask, "Is this the end?" It is, until someone challenges your right to the place you occupy. Then you must defend your square foot of ground, but how?

Polish your life's practice, put on the breastplate of righteousness, rejoice always, and pray without ceasing until you open the three "windows of the soul," as Daniel did. Open up in consciousness toward Jerusalem, the city of peace.

Each day is divided into three parts: Repentance, remission and sanctification through joy. Shall selfishness be your anchor, or will surrender open your wings?

Osiris and Isis first opened the vibration of the soul's immortality, brought knowledge of God as Light to earth in Egypt, but over time man degraded it to mere sun-worship. Our way today is ascension of soul on the Via Christa. Jesus' teachings had just one common denominator: "I believe to see." He came to open the Gates of Heaven, preparing the way for the earth's ascension of consciousness.

We divide our year into periods specially devoted to soul inventory, repentance, surrender, sacrifice, sanctification and remission of the self. January 12 to Ash Wednesday is a preparation period for soul inventory.

Lent is the period of repentance, surrender and sacrifice of the little self, which culminates at Easter, when we begin to release the Power for the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We reach the finale of forty days of sanctification and ascension in a fulfillment of surrender on Ascension Day. This paves the way for the Holy Spirit to descend at Pentecost.

The world is afraid to surrender self, fearing that it means loss of identity. Their fear crucified Jesus, yet his name is on tongues all over earth, as it was prophesied. Why do we place such stress on the idea of surrender?

Jesus taught that the invisible world is real, but most people must see it to believe. He began to appear and disappear at age twelve by expanding his atomic body to the point of invisibility. He raised his vibration to disappear in his high body, lowered his vibration to appear in his physical body.

He appeared seventeen times in The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ,1 and eleven times in the New Testament Gospels. At his final appearance, recorded in the last chapter of John, he "precipitated" or "condensed" his body to be seen by physical eyes.

Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me," three times to wipe out his disciples' doubt about the invisible world's reality. Thus, he healed their ability to believe to see. This is the Way of Initiation, the Via Christa, the Way of Christ.

"Choose this day whom you will serve."—Joshua 24:15. Decision is the ability to throw out the old and accept the new, which pays dividends. Soul inventory reveals how much you love God, and you must decide this every day.

Self love is bondage to darkness, but soul love is ascending into Light. Soul inventory means sacrificing little self to buy tools to dig up the pearl of great price that you buried when you descended to earth.

Some people are undependable because they cannot bear to give up the past. Repentance means to turn around, to do an about-face. "Re" means to go back to, "pent" means "wealth, high place," as in "penthouse, exclusiveness, or closely confined, shut in or shut up."

God fashioned your soul in His image and likeness in the Garden of Eden. You must return to your original high estate as a creator, sacrificing self and working out your own salvation. Someone who says, "I wish I could find my right place," is subconsciously remembering his lost treasure. People usually search for the good everywhere but up, where it resides.

Repentance means to sacrifice opinions and prejudices for an open mind. You "think about" and "try" to sacrifice self during Lent. "I'll try" really means "I'm not ready yet to accept or become." To sacrifice self is to walk in beauty. Under repentance, you prepare to become an initiate.

You must hew a path through the jungle of self you created to find your buried treasure. Since you have forgotten where you buried it, you dig, dig, dig all over the place until your blistered hands bleed, and life hurts. This is Rebirth. You can find your pearl of great price only by ascending to the Garden of Eden, where you buried it.

You climb from Baptism by Water, which is the soul ascending to relieve spiritual thirst, to Baptism by Fire, the descent of the Holy Spirit. The only sins against the Holy Spirit arise from the emotional life, the "little self." You must "walk on water" to transcend emotions. How can you do this? Put iron in your spine, and wait upon the Lord until He makes your enemies your footstool.

You can use a person who calls you the worst names to release great Power. Declare that they speak only one vibration, love. Reach out to darkness with love, and it becomes Light again to fill your creative prayer molds.

Get hot about God. White heat is healing Power, which orbits the world, condensing and filling your molds as you speak truth. The condensation of love's Power remits sins. Remission of sin implies that you can disobey the laws of the soul. "Re-" means to go back to, and "mission" means a service. Your service is to rejoice and pray. Love, enough to dissolve the world's porcupine quills, another's or your own, is remitting sins.

You reconsecrate and rededicate yourself to the mission from Easter to Ascension Day. Consecration means to sanctify into a state of holy grace, beginning to fall in love with God. Consecration is full surrender and complete transformation. So you have to choose how you'll go.

The descent of the Holy Spirit creates a symphony of Light at Pentecost. You are reborn, renewed, vitalized and quickened by the descent of Christ Power. The greater the Source of Power you contact with your live wire of omnipotent faith, the more Power fills you from on high. You cannot bear that high degree of Power on earth unless you fully surrender to become the servant of all Power.

You can back out, turn your back on the Light, back away from responsibility. You can keep out, join the "do nothing" class, and soon the little you have is gone. Or you can push out and up into a new place of glory. You can stay there until someone challenges your right to the place you occupy. Then you must defend it with your breastplate of faith and love.

The Holy Spirit can flow through and individualize you when you become an instrument of God's Power. Identify with God. The Supreme Being cannot derive identity from His creations, for He is the identity we all seek.

People may call you an egotist or arrogant when Power expresses through you positively. Some people, though they face the Light, are still afraid to make that sacrifice until their love of God becomes too great to back out or to avoid their responsibility.

Watch out! You are descending in consciousness when you draw your skirts aside or dwell on others' failings. Ascend to the River of Life and lose the self. Push up over the obstacles. People try to burrow beneath instead of climbing over or going around. Sometimes a dozen people concentrate their criticism to push one person off his point.

As a creator, open wisdom, love and joy, the windows of soul in your higher creative center to see New Jerusalem. Daniel's enemies in Babylon made a law that you could not pray facing Jerusalem, yet despite his enemies, Daniel opened his spiritual windows to Jerusalem. He fell in love with God, who became his breastplate of protection.

Daniel ascended until faith conquered him. He looked up and loved God so much that the Holy Spirit filled the den. The hungry lions cowered in a corner, and he did not see lions. Love made them good little lions, who saw only Light while Daniel worshiped and loved God. Seven lions represent seven worldly "devils" that can drag you from the penthouse of soul. Stand until enough love fills you to erase lions from the earth.

Paul describes a perfect ascension practice in his first Letter to Thessalonians: Be at peace among yourselves. Warn those who are unruly. Comfort the fainthearted. Uphold the weak. Be patient with all. Never render evil for evil to anyone. Always pursue what is good both for yourself and for all. Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophecies. Prove all things. Hold fast to what is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.

What is your ascension practice? Do you want to be the strongest person in the world? Do not limp. Do you want to be the most selfless person in the world? Sacrifice and surrender the little self. How gloriously great is your practice of Ascension? Sell all self to buy the penthouse of soul.

Each day is divided into three parts: Repentance, remission and sanctification through Joy. Selfishness acts as an anchor to earth, but surrender spreads the wings of soul in ascension.

Your Life Goal

Edna Lister sermon outline; May 30, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; June 13, 1954, Buffalo, New York; November 6, 1955, Cleveland, Ohio. Scripture: Hebrews 8.

"Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."—Hebrews 8.

The number eight symbolizes Power, and thirteen represents the Via Christi Way. A goal is the point marking the end of a race, and object of effort or ambition, which you obtain through the "four" of service.

Your name indicates the particular portion of the stream of life rate of vibration you ride on at any given period of your life. This goal-vibration is set before you leave for earth, its switches ready for your choice to turn it on.

When you decide what you must do, your choice opens the goal-switches, and sets the vibration in motion. It carries the Power to open earth doors, the substance to condense into creations, and Mind, as ideas to show every next step.

At the opening of the switches, one switch is set to release your soul debts, apportioning them for each day's prayers to cover, which is the meaning of "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." By standing immovable on your choice, on your chosen, acknowledged goal, you can turn each day's debt into a well-learned experience-lesson and added law.

You, by your decision and spoken Word of decree, can only acknowledge your own life path, which you have already chosen for yourself. It stresses certain ideas in your life, and emphasizes certain vibrations.

Some teachers advise changing your name, home address, or business location. Yet you cannot change your original stream of life vibration but only lock the switches. Changing numbers to a more coveted rate of vibration only opens cross-vibrations for further conquering. Your original stream-of-life rate will flow until you conquer, which is why you have lived on the Wheel of Fate for so many lives.

What you run away from always catches up to you. If this is so, then why do you feel so good after a change? Changing your goal switches turns off the one that releases your debts, so temporarily you have no hourly debts to pay. Life runs smoothly for a while, then the cross-vibrations build to block your path.

However, parents sometimes misname a child, and later he must change his name to open the goal switches. Otherwise, such a soul has no choice but to live in a mediocre humdrum way, batting at near hits and far misses.

Moses established the covenant of the law on tablets of stone so that the people could "see to believe." Jesus established a covenant on "better promises" of eternal life and eternal youth. They forgot the "old" covenant, which they had to "see to believe," when it became a familiar objective. When you grow accustomed to anything, your reaction to it fades. The romance is gone. The goal recedes upward from you.

Jesus, as the mediator, established a covenant on "believing to see," which forever offers new romance, forever opening new vistas. The first covenant, mental, was not faultless. The races who "did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord," died out.

A new covenant creates a new goal. "I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people."—Hebrews 8:10. "I will put my laws in their mind" is within, not objective but subjective.

"And write them on their hearts" includes compassion and understanding. Under the old covenant, sympathy for weakness pushes down, but compassion in strength lifts up, under the new covenant. "I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people" in eternal life.

"And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know Me."—Hebrews 8:11. When you know the Lord, your knowing entices everyone around you to conform to the same method of approach in their use of law. No one ever needs to make another conform, "for all shall know Me, from the least to the greatest."

"We have the mind of Christ."—1 Corinthians 2:16. The mind of Christ works through you, lives as you, decides for you, stands for you with no forcing. Each soul is a special servant of all Light as Power. Do you see imperfection? Yes, but only to lift. You trust God and know the difference between strength and weakness in your ability to perform beyond that which burdens you.

“The mind of Christ works through you, lives as you,
decides for you, stands for you with no forcing.”

What is your reward for holding fast to the high goal of "the calling of God in Christ Jesus?" — "I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."—Hebrews 8:12. This paints the picture of an ever-present, actively interested God, whose race will live to see God.

"If that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second."—Hebrews 8:7. The second is the covenant of ascension. To "see to believe" and use law never works. To "believe to see" how law uses you, creates miracle after miracle.

When you renew your vows to the new covenant, you ascend into your own rate of vibration in the stream of life. You set your switches to open all doors to life and honor. Light moves through to rule your life in divine clockwork timing.

This text, Hebrews 8, has thirteen verses, and is highly mystical, symbolizing service — eight control switches, the one master switch, and the new covenant. This represents the "new" Christed covenant way, a common vibration that we may use to ascend.

Your Life Goal

Edna Lister sermon transcript; May 30, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scripture: Hebrews 8:1-13.

"Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."—Hebrews 8.

The eighth chapter of the Letter to Hebrews is one of the most confusing in the Bible, yet it clearly compares the covenants of Moses and Jeremiah, which Jesus preached. The chapter's keynote is Ascension, lifting the soul from Egypt to the Garden of Eden.

You can interpret symbols on psychic, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. If you unfold symbols from a low level, you may feel fear, but if you unfold them from the mental realm, you reveal their scientific meaning and receive spiritual illumination.

The chapter number, eight (8), is the number that symbolizes Power, with the Master's cross, the X, in the center, capped by the Mother's o'ershadowing wings, upheld by the Father's everlasting arms. Eight also symbolizes tying your earth to your heaven, making them one, as a heaven on earth.

Verse thirteen, "Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away," explains why superstition considers thirteen the number that symbolizes death. Yet it also refers to the Via Christa, which is soul ascension in glory, but crystallized "death" of soul when misused.

A goal is the point marking the end in a race, an ambition, a target, a dream or object of effort and ambition that you obtain through service. You set this "goal" vibration before you leave for earth. You charted your life's course on the inner before you came here, all the tests, trials and temptations, and their timing in your life.

Your personal vibration is the particular rate or degree in the stream of life to which you vibrate during any given period of your life. Since you must make choices along the way, the key moments of choosing are like "switches" in consciousness, ready for you to choose the way you will go.

When you decide what to do to attain the goal, your choice flips a switch open, and sets a new vibration into motion. Now the power to open earth doors is available, the substance ready to condense into new creations, and your mind is filled with new ideas to show you every step of the way.

Yet every time you flip a new switch, you also release your past soul debts in small doses, apportioned in amounts easily paid for with each day's prayers. "Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."—Matthew 6:34. By standing immovable on your choice, on your chosen, acknowledged goal, each day's debt turns into an experience-lesson well learned, and added as law.

You, by your spoken Word of decree, can acknowledge only your own life path, the one you have already chosen for yourself. Thus, some teachers stress and emphasize certain "vibrations," and advise changing your name, home and business addresses.

You cannot change your original stream of life vibration, but can only lock the switches. Changing numbers to more coveted rates opens you to different cross-vibrations for conquering. Yet the original stream-of-life rate will continue to flow until you conquer.

People who change their names to modify their foundation number vibration, often for peace, may feel better afterward, but can rest themselves to death. In seeking an easier life, they temporarily turn off the need to pay the spiritual debts associated with their old name, but double, the spiritual debts of each name, will be due next time.

Some people pay the debts of fifteen lives at once. They may live lives of such overwhelming difficulty that others are tempted to feel sorry for them. But sympathy, which is a sign of weakness, flips their self-pity switch. Hold them in strengthening compassion instead. On the other hand, in some cases, parents wrongly name a child, who later must change his name to open his goal switches.

Your supreme life goal must be desire for illumination, without which civilizations perish. Hebrews 8 outlines every step to reach the goal of ascension on the Path of Destiny. You may ascend all the way when you choose a decree of Light to flip the Power switches and bring the objects of your desire into visibility.

First, acknowledge that you recognize the plan for your life. Releasing divine Power into the outer aligns you to contact God's agents, who show you the next step.

God's love is unlimited in quality or quantity. To match it, you must question yourself: How much can I love God this hour? You could cover your past debts in seconds if you love God enough.

Some, who have pride but no money, want to make everyone conform to one level standard. They have avoided the responsibility of ascension before, and are still doing so. The only equality we share is breathing and the right to ascend, nothing more.

Paul called Jesus the high priest of the Order of Melchizedek: "We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount."—Hebrews 8:1-5.

People think that being the leader is a glamorous position, but Moses' magnetism faded over the course of forty years, so he went to the mountain to ask God for a visible sign to make the people believe again. The glamor fades when truth is an intellectual matter only.

Moses' love, like that of most ministers, was not enough to hold the congregation. Moses ascended, but not in sight of his people, as Jesus did, because he did not earn the right.

God re-formed the shattered tablets of law and ascension He had materialized, but that covenant was mental-intellectual, less than spiritual. God held the Israelites while they pursued the goal, but let them go when they forgot again.

Jesus' covenant is a purely spiritual goal, whose keynote is "I believe to see." You enter the golden silence of soul ecstasy, a state of pure Love of God, all powerful in its ability to create when you believe. As you ascend, your vision grows according to your imagination, so always envision a new goal, seek a new mountain top, and never turn back to the shadows again.

"I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts" is a law. God writes the laws on the hearts of those who are conquering earth's glamor. When the world loses its glamor, it no longer fascinates you. You appear as a tablet of splendor as you walk the Path of Ascension on your own great River of Life vibration.

Clock timing does not affect your attainment of the goal because you live by the true love of God, in a high state of soul consciousness. You have opened your heart to the great goal of full illumination, and the time has come to turn the master switch.

Two hundred years ago, orthodoxy would have buried me for saying this, but formula prayer, mantras and metaphysical statements are part of an old covenant. The idea now is to ascend and become a blossom of Light on the Tree of Life as your soul uses the mental faculties of your physical brain.

The new covenant is written in a place of ecstasy. Become a Tablet of Splendor, gloriously radiant, panoplied in God's Splendor. As you receive law within your heart, its radiance absorbs others' darkness. No teacher can change your life, but illumination rushes in when you pull your finger from the hole in your dike.

Take advantage of your heritage, and ask God to adjust your rate of vibration Power switches. God's Light empowers you to pay your debts painlessly when you add enough love. All doors to success will open, and all bondage will end.

Nothing little makes men great, only destiny based on "I believe to see." Your life goal is to become ecstatic with the golden glory, and all good things to come.

I Arise!

Edna Lister sermon outline; June 20, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; July 24, 1955, International New Thought Alliance 40th Congress, Cincinnati, Ohio. Scripture: 1 John 5.

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen."—1 John 5.

To say, "I arise," you must first be in a place from which you may arise, and have another to which you can go. Like the Children of Israel, you have spent forty years wandering when you really have been in the Promised Land the whole time.

So, to arise means you must choose how you live in the Promised Land. You know this because you have no place else to go. To arise also means to ascend from an unconscious into a conscious state of being while expressing your soul talents. How can you tell when you have moved up in consciousness? You feel well or ill, light or heavy, good or less good.

This chapter of John's first Letter reveals how to ascend in consciousness. It tells you what to do in three steps: First is belief in Jesus as the Son of God, which is overcoming. Second is love of God, wanting to keep His commandments, which is being perfect, just and good now. Finally, the faith of God, which is victory.

Spirit, blood and water bear witness on earth, which is how you know that you are arising. Spirit, as the living soul, accepts the Son of God. The love of God flows through you as the waters of Christ consciousness. The faith of God, as the blood of the Lamb, fills you with life-energy vibration.

Spirit, as living soul substance, directly increases Christ consciousness, functioning through the bloodstream, watering, vitalizing and using the endocrine glands, vital and mental centers. Thus, the whole body is vitalized, and Christ consciousness moves out and into expression though and as you.

The Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit bear witness in heaven. The Father is Wisdom, illumination, and all ideas. The Word is the Logos as the Mother Love vibration of intuition. The Holy Spirit is joy, the Son.

The Father represents Spirit as Mind and Power, the Word symbolizes the Mother Love through "water," and the Holy Spirit symbolizes "blood."

All powers of the Godhead invade, permeate the soul and live in the bloodstream as the eternal life in you. These nine aspects of the Godhead constitute your immortality of soul and eternal life, and cover everything above and below.

The Son promised, "Ask anything in my name, and I shall do it," but what you ask must be according to God's will, which is pure law. What law? Loving God enough, fulfills the law.

Today we emphasize faith. Imagination is always involved, whether it carries you down and out as imagery, or onward, inward and upward as soul vision. You know you must hold your vision on something great enough to carry your desire and will up with it, but how?

Imagination as imagery takes you down to the basement with its gallery of sad, angry pictures of the pain and conflict of self. Imagination as vision takes you to the gallery of beauty in your tower room. Ascend in consciousness to your garden of love with its beauty and flowers. To do this, constantly remember "I mind my own business as I follow Christ."

Imagery tempts you into "sin leading to death," which is the ice-state of denying God, denying Jesus the Christ as the Son of God. It includes the deliberate, willful self-use of Power, disobedience to known laws, which causes the atomic body to collapse in on itself.

Declare, "I ascend in consciousness. I arise into my garden of love where I am changed into love. I yearn, I brood over my creations and the world." This is the magical act of surrender to be possessed by joy. By your works, by your love, you are known. You will hear the Father's Voice, saying, "Come, child." Never descend from your garden of love in the golden silence, where your yearning and brooding over others lifts and heals them.

You think of arising to go somewhere else. Why should I arise? Where do I go from here? How do I go? You always arise from a lesser state of consciousness into action. Such arising can come unexpectedly or in a peculiar way, through drunkenness, or at an evangelist's revival meeting, for example. Your mind suddenly becomes flexible enough to awaken from what you see and feel. You ascend from relative unconsciousness to consciousness, and enter a higher state of being than before.

Those who seek truth are usually hampered by circumstances, family problems, money or health, so you must lift them out of themselves and inspire them to ascend. Most often, however, you must lift your consciousness from the little self.

Inspiration opens the mind's eyes to greater possibilities. A miracle is the fulfillment of desire, but if your results on the outer usually don't warrant the title of miracle, light a fire under your faith. Faith is the switch that tunes you in as an instrument to decree and release Power. You must stand firmly on the rock of faith to fulfill a miracle.

“Stand firmly on the rock of faith to fulfill a miracle.”

We have wandered the earth asking, seeking, and finding religion. This chapter seems complicated, yet it does give illumination, and takes us to a mystical place.

John is describing a higher state of consciousness, and he gives three methods of how-to-do-it: "Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?"—1 John 5:5.

First, you must believe in Christ Jesus as the First Begotten Son of God, because he is part of that great soul. Faith is your "open sesame" to the door of freedom from the world, to become a creator while overcoming the buffeting of earth's four winds of doubt, confusion, fear and sorrow.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."—1 John 5:3. Secondly, if you love God, you will want to obey His laws, which are perfect for all Creation.

You find law irksome only because it requires that you give up self. Yet all the good character and personality traits, such as graciousness, loveliness, compassion and dignity, grow from loving God and obeying law.

God cannot change principle to suit mankind's ideas, which is a great comfort. Yet for principle to work through you for perfection, you must love God enough.

Don't blame God for those who have clay feet or brass brains. Just leave, without criticizing them, and call their work good, because it is. It may be only third grade, but that's what third graders need. You graduate into class after higher class under inspiration.

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."—1 John 5:4. Ultimately, the faith of God is victory. Love God and ask for illumination on what you have failed to see, if you think you have lost time or missed the mark.

You never waste time if you love, despite circumstances, even in the midst of gossip, or under any conditions. Flood them with love, and love will go forth as peace to calm troubled waters. One will be touched to speak up and bring harmony into the group.

"There are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."—1 John 5:8. Jesus said, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"—Mark 15:34.

Spirit, bearing witness on earth, is that portion of divine Mind from the Source predominating as the high vibration, carrying Power and Substance with it. Spirit o'ershadowed Jesus, filled and permeated him.

Water represents Light as the Mind, Power and Substance individualized as Christed consciousness that fills your atomic body with strength to run the physical. Blood represents your faith. The bloodstream is the body's source of life, and the soul leaves if the blood is drained. The centurion's spear drained Jesus' earthly blood until only the purest essence of life-giving divine substance remained.

"There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."—1 John 5:7. You can tell how much Light as substance you receive by these three witnesses. The Father is the masculine positive-acting principle of Mind, from which Spirit comes. "The mind that was in Christ Jesus."—Philippians 2:5 fills the brain cells of all who arise. Just raise your antenna, listen, and accept.

The Word is the Logos vibration expressing the pure love of God, mothering, yearning and brooding over its creations. The blood of the Lamb embodies the Holy Spirit, which we know as Christed consciousness, joy, energy, vitality, the Son's red ray that baptizes with fire and strengthens.

Spirit, water, blood, Father, Word, Holy Spirit, Mind, Power, and Substance are nine switches you can set for immortality, healing and success. People ask, "Why don't I always succeed?" A wise one says, "Pray." They respond with, "I have prayed" or "I've done that," which reveals the icy opinion and prejudice that chills their zeal to lukewarmness.

You can't cook a dinner just by putting it in a cold oven. You must turn up the heat, the rate of vibration. This principle operates in everything, according to degree and kind.

What have you hung in your mental art gallery, portraits of success or landscapes of failure? Imagination always builds pictures, but keep only those that are worthwhile then build a bonfire to consume the rest.

Oil imagination's rusty shrieking hinges and turn it upward. Never descend to the basement to worship resentment-revenge idols. Do not wallow in that cellar, but clean it up and climb to your tower room.

Decree, "I arise and ascend past the Promised Land to enter Eden, my garden of love. I shall yearn and brood over my creations as a mother, covering them with glory, Light and the love of God."

How high do you make your decrees? Are you creating ceiling-bumpers or huge clouds, sailing high enough to reach heaven? A man once built a canoe in his attic, then had to tear out the wall to move it. Why create in a small room rather than in the great outdoors? Why build creations in bondage?

Ascend to your Garden of Eden where God's Power can and will use you. Love your worst favorites until they become your glory, and a Voice shall say, "Child, this is your natural habitation until the Spirit and might of the Power, Love and glory of God possesses you. This is law, and law is the faith of God."

I Accept!

Edna Lister sermon outline; June 27, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; July 10, 1955, Tacoma, Washington. Scripture: Matthew 5:23-26.

"Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing."—Matthew 5:23-26.

"I accept" means to "take responsibility, to find something favorable, to be reconciled, to receive gladly" and as graciously as you give. Grace is an eternal quality of God; grace is an aspect of the soul that is the source of your graciousness.

What do you accept? Your place in the world as your only hope? Satisfied or dissatisfied, complaining but doing nothing about it? Faith without works is dead.

"I accept my heavenly inheritance, to fulfill the law through love." God in His Wisdom has a plan for you that you may know, can see and hear. Declare, "I accept that faith will hold me steadfastly in action."

The Sermon on the Mount is filled with laws to guide you into cooperation with law. To accept is to choose. "Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift."—Matthew 5:23-24.

To be reconciled means to accept responsibility for your actions. You cannot give if you hold anything against anyone. When you break one law, you have broken them all. After you choose, you must act. What is the first action?

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing."—Matthew 5:25-26.

To agree with the adversary quickly, you must love God enough. If you don't, the adversary will take you to the judge, who will give you to the officer, who will cast you in prison.

So, to disagree is three steps down to the basement, but to agree is only one step up to your tower room of consciousness. If you cannot agree, it proves that you still believe in "enemies." To believe in an enemy creates an adversary, a dark cloud of force, an entity that clings to you.

To be taken before the judge is conscience reminding you of law, your Oversoul breaking through your crust. The officer is regret. The prison is remorse, which is a sense of guilt. To agree with an adversary means to love God more than you love self. Love is adequate for all occasions. The love you release returns to you and forms a steady flow of Power.

In this place of love's release of Power, your aura is love as Light. When you lift your hands to pray, the magnetic current rushes up through your feet to the solar plexus. Light moves in and you ascend in consciousness on an intake of breath for strength. This happens, of course, after you have no remaining enemies on the outer. How do you get rid of them? Love enough.

Firefighters will set a backfire to stop a range or forest fire. Remember your "fire zone" of protection, a wall of consuming fire that annihilates negativity or danger. Whatever touches you will change into Light, so that no harm can come near you.

This happens because you accept your own responsibility and inheritance, and choose Light. Therefore, you accept your place at the banker's window of heaven ready to collect your beautiful inheritance.

Declare, "I accept my body as God's perfect temple of the soul. I accept my place as a perfect instrument of Light. I accept the faith that goes before me. I accept my great place in the outer now. I make myself ready for it by cooperation with God as my Father of Wisdom, my Source of all love, Power, joy, life, and glory."

Say, "Father, accept my new vows as my down payment for the new strength and glory coming to me now. I am unconquerable faith with no failure in it. Use me greatly."

I Accept!

Edna Lister sermon transcript; June 27, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson.

"I accept" means "to take responsibility, to find what comes favorable, to be reconciled, to receive gladly" and as graciously as you give. Grace is an eternal Godlike quality of the soul.

To accept involves a choice. You accept your place in life hopefully or hopelessly, satisfied or dissatisfied, complaining but doing nothing about it. Some people consider it nonresistance to accept hopelessly. Others accept aggressively, but both modes deny the Source.

You cannot pull your plug from the Source of Power socket and still have the energy to run efficiently here. Many pull their plugs and go to bed, accepting the resulting physical weakness.

You must accept from the soul side. God fills your Oversoul star with perfect substance when you declare: "I accept my heavenly inheritance that God has a plan for me, one that I can know, see and hear."

You need a firm foundation of divine principle before you can say, "I accept," because the world challenges you when you claim your heavenly estate. Your inheritance will include enough wisdom and substance, but you must plan and build perfect prayer molds.

Your overall plan must be well defined, and you must bring back the day's plan each morning. Then you must love enough to fulfill law and your plan. For example, Job believed until Satan challenged him. He fell to the bottom, but when he bounced back, God redoubled his riches.

Miracles abound when you are able to recognize the action of law in your life. Small miracles, like almost dropping something but catching it in time, happen all day. Blaming the "almost" is cursing God. Love God enough to praise Him instantly.

God pours out enough love and wisdom for the world daily, so too bad if you forget to collect your share. Declare, "I accept that I must have enough faith to hold me steadfastly in action." Stand and call everything good, which is the wonderful foundation that holds you.

Two factors are important, the ability to choose and to act. According to the law, you must transpose each earthly experience into a lesson that reveals the divine law to obey. Acceptance of new laws is a matter of personal choice.

Collecting your inheritance is your choice, too, so be greedy in claiming your portion at the window of abundance. Forty others take your place when you step out of line with blame and negativity, so go to your tower room of I AM consciousness without resenting the phone or doorbell. Pour out love and wisdom as faith, no matter what twaddle you hear.

Once you decide to claim your inheritance, you discover that your only choice is God. "Trying" will bring you to boiling, but only choosing God takes you to the point of white-hot faith needed for a miracle a minute. Ascend and love God enough. How much is enough? When you hold the miracle in your hand.

Every request is good, even if you burn your fingers, or if your desire is gone when you get what you prayed for. When you love God enough, and make strong decrees, He will send the right answer that will expand with your joy and needs.

"First be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing."—Matthew 5:24-26. Love God enough to agree quickly.

Acceptance chooses to cooperate with law. If you are drawing on your inheritance, you accept full responsibility for the actions of everyone on your lines of Light.

You may not offend, so search for inoffensive ways to speak truth. You must not smudge your page, and you do not want a dirty page in anyone's Book of Life. If you are innocent when blamed, erase the blot by saying, "I love you." You cannot give if you hold anything against anyone. If you break one law, you break them all.

After you choose to agree, act quickly and go to your tower room to lift. Your subconscious will create an adversary if a single "enemy" thought remains. People who say, "I just can't agree with that," still believe in enemies, which creates an entity, a dark cloud of force that clings.

An adversary will take you to the judge, who will give you to the officer, who will deliver you to prison. The basement is three steps down, but your tower room is only one step up. The judge is your Oversoul, speaking as conscience, reminding you of law. The officer is regret. Think of the hours you have wasted in regret.

God does not hand you to the officer if you apologize without regrets and erase your name from your adversary's page. Some people have so many smudges on others' pages that they run out of room. The prison is remorse, which is a sense of guilt. Many are in prison because they do not know how to lift their regrets to a cloud of Light.

To agree with an adversary means to love God more than the self. Reach up to God and love Him. Say, "Father, use me." Agree with your adversary, saying, "I love you. How wonderful you are." You may never nag anyone, but you can mentally shout it, even in the business world.

Love is the panacea for all occasions. The magnetic current rushes up through the navel center when you lift your hands to pray. Light moves in from above, and you ascend on an intake of breath for strength.

Love as Light fills your aura in this place of love's release of Power. The Light returns to you in a steady stream of Power when you have no enemies on the outer.

How do you get rid of enemies? Love enough. Build a "fire zone" of protection, a wall of consuming fire to change whatever touches you to Light. Then no harm can come near you. Why? Because your actions are saying, "I accept my own inheritance and choose Light."

"I accept my place at the banker's window of heaven, ready to collect my share of beauty, my inheritance. I accept my body as God's perfect temple of the soul. I accept my place as a perfect instrument of Light."

"I accept all the angels of Love and Wisdom on either side of me. I accept the faith that goes before me. I accept my great place in the outer now. I prepare myself by cooperating with God as my Father of Wisdom, my Source of all Power, love, joy, life, glory."

"Father, accept my new vows as my intent of payment on the new strength and glory, which are coming to me. I am infallible, unconquerable faith. Use me greatly."

I Surrender!

Edna Lister sermon outline; July 4, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scripture: Matthew 10:32-42.

"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."—Matthew 10:32-42.

Independence means "to stand alone," unfettered and unbound. To know the value of independence, you must have known the values of dependency. To be able to surrender, you must have felt bondage, and must have been dependent.

First, you hear the call to freedom, from being understood and misunderstood, from self, not the world. "I hear. I accept. I obey the law of surrender of self through standing alone. I am dependent on no one, nothing, yet holding all my own closer, higher."

Surrender means that you take up your full Christed responsibility to stand alone, if necessary, which increases your responsibility. So, you surrender what? Desire? Will? No. You surrender your misuse of desire and will.

This chapter outline forms six ways of surrender of self, and is a great method. In the first and second ways, you give up independence. In the third and fourth, you give service to family and the world first. In the fifth and sixth, you again give up independence.

First, you surrender to be used by love, Power, and Light. He who seeks to find his life, loses it. The little self, using Power selfishly, creates force. If self holds fast to its life of opinions and prejudices, it loses its life.

You find eternally renewing life as you surrender to be filled with Light. Life becomes beautiful and vivid, your soul is increased, and the aura is enlarged and brilliant.

When you surrender to Power, you make your "confession before men," which means that you walk with God, see His glory and praise Him. Your confession becomes your surrender. Surrender is a confession to a Christed one.

To "deny" is to fail to acknowledge, to declare something as untrue or nonexistent. In ascension terms, denial is to pay no attention to the call of Power, to make no surrender, to look lifeless, bedraggled, old, moth-eaten, shriveled and cut off.

Jesus meant that "whoever denies me before men" was shutting out the Light, forcing it to move around, not in them. To "deny me" means the Gates of Light are closed, thus the cells of the body are sealed to Christed Power. Since to deny means a failure to acknowledge, it then means a failure to accept. Therefore, such a soul closes out the Power by choice.

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."—Matthew 10:34. You bring peace to earth by your acknowledgment of the Christ, which is a sword to conquer darkness. The conquering Light stirs up the darkness and evil.

Higher than peace is the principle of poise, which is pure love in action. Poise, when you mate it with Power, begets peace and patience. You become like a mirror, in which the other person sees himself reflected. Since you have become a servant of all Power, you must clean up the mess its release creates. For instance, if someone upsets a waiter's tray of water glasses, the waiter is responsible for cleaning up the spill.

The sword, which is two-edged with love and wisdom, cuts the darkness out for the Light to lift. Carry your sword, not to make war, but to bring peace, which is far greater than sitting and waiting for it to happen, independent of you. Lift your sword of responsibility only under surrender of self, and use it to transmute darkness into Light.

"He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."—Matthew 10:37. This verse tells you to put God first.

Our Declaration of Unquenchable Love reads, "True Love magnifies the one whom it loves." I love God; therefore, I magnify His name. To love God first means that you do not love anyone else possessively, yet you assume all responsibility for them. You are willing to pay all debts, assume all blame and give them all your credits.

You ascend to the Gate of Surrender with the sixth veil of illusion blinding you. Yet you know that you must surrender the "little self," or climb all the way with "little me" on your back.

Reach around and lift your "firstborn" self off your back and hold it up. Be ready to use the knife of love in sacrifice, as Abraham did with Isaac. You know the truth that there will be a "ram in the bushes," and God will make your cross into a ladder of Ascension. What is your cross? Your dear little self, which you have coddled and cuddled. Pick it up and follow the Christed pattern.

What a great method of Ascension we enjoy on the 33 Degrees of the Via Christa, to give up self and the conflict-filled independence of self, to serve God first then others, to climb and to make the final surrender of all self.

Pick up your sword of responsibility and hold it high in service to the Light of God first. Turn the cross of Crucifixion into the ladder of Ascension.

Unquenchable Love
Love is a flame and fire that burns ever. Love cannot be quenched. Love cannot be put out. Love is. True Love needs no assurances. True Love knows itself and its own. Love is the fire that enthuses. Love is a fire that ever burns higher, always upward.

True Love is the end as well as the beginning. True Love feeds upon itself and not upon the loved one. True Love magnifies the one whom it loves. Love asks no favors and gives all. Love's strength lies in its self-sustaining ability. Love's keynote is a deep, abiding devotion to the one who is loved. True Love burns steadfastly under all conditions, joy or sorrow, separation or unity.

True Love counts no effort too great nor too small, and no task too hard nor too long. True Love is lifting, opens all doors, and is all-compelling in its power to unite. True Love is never conscious of giving, but like sunshine, shares itself with all. True Love withstands all separation and lives forever.—Edna Miriam Lister, 1939

I Surrender!

Edna Lister sermon transcript; July 4, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scripture: Matthew 10:32-42.

We call this Independence Day. In fact, most people run from independence. The self fears that you will give up your freedom if you surrender self, so you tell yourself that you do not understand surrender.

No one can know or appreciate real independence until he surrenders self. The terms sacrifice, independence, surrender, freedom and responsibility are practically synonymous. You cannot attain true independence except through surrender in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual worlds.

These verses relate to you, the individual, they form six methods of surrender of self. They contain a complete outline for of ascension teachings. Six is the creative number symbolizing the doubled trinity, and the veils of illusion between you and your creations.

True Christianity is based on fundamental principles and laws that are as old as the universe. A teacher must stay current with the world to dress up the same old principles and methods.

"Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.—Matthew 5:25. To agree quickly means loving God enough to have no earthly adversaries. Your only real adversary is your little self.

"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."—Matthew 10:32-33.

The Master's words in this text are ambiguous, but deal with complete surrender. "Confession" is the moment you surrender to be possessed by the Power and the outpouring of God's Spirit through you and your works. Let your Light so shine. Wear Light like a garment until you become the Light.

Denial states a thing as untrue or nonexistent. To deny is to fail to surrender self and acknowledge God. You deny the Master before men when you deny yourself the joy of surrender. If your denials prevent you from ascending your desire body through the Gates of Light, the Master must deny you before the Father.

God's Power flows over you, but denial cloaks you in a magnetically repellent gray cloud. God's Power is all glorious and I AM consciousness is its servant.

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."—Matthew 10:34-36. These verses concern your outer attitudes and earth relationships. Peace operates two ways: One sits and waits for God to do something, and the other ignores truth.

The subconscious carries out whatever you say you want, but it makes you work for peace, patience, humility and tolerance. Declare that you are working for poise instead, not peace. Peace and patience, the children of poise and Power, spread flowers before you. As you lift desire into immovable poise, Power descends as its mate.

Poise results from surrender to be possessed by the fullness of all the Power of God. Ever greater surrender gains in comprehension cause compassion to move in the world. Compassion is the child of comprehension, and it descends when you ascend, expressing tolerance and humility.

Poise and compassion stand immovable on the stable foundation of God's full Power, and nothing can touch you or move you from there. You are free. You have ascended.

The sword of responsibility is edged with love and wisdom to separate and lift darkness from Light. Declare, "I take up my sword of responsibility and stand in poise and surrender to be possessed by God's Power."

Jesus said he came to set family against family. Love magnifies the one whom it loves. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God," when family disputes arise. When you put your high vision into action, "all these things will be added" to you.

The center of your auric sphere is the mirror of soul that reveals self, and reflects everything you have vowed to clean up. You become a mirror for others when you take up the sword of responsibility. They may not like what they see reflected.

Not knowing law or being able to see this, whom will others credit for the unwelcome reflection? You must take what it reflects into your arms of Light and return the other fellow to the Father's house. Cleanse the skunks and change them into floral bouquets.

Carry the Light. No one will know if you gray out, but responsibility carries a sword in one hand and a torch of Light in the other to illumine darkness. You can be unpopular with your torch and sword of responsibility, but you must carry them to lift humanity.

"A man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me."—Matthew 10:36-37. You may not love your family or anything of earth more than you love the Master. He asks, "If you love them first, how will you love me?"

Love God first, then your family. Having ascended, you are no longer an earth creature, but responsible for taking everyone who remains into the Father's house with you.

Lift your sword of responsibility, which magnifies the right choice at the right time. If you choose to be irresponsible, earth's loyalties, honors and obligations will entangle you until you are in bondage on earth.

Love your family with God's universal compassionate love. He is all. When you express His yearning, brooding Mother Love for the world, you become the Love and Wisdom of God in action, which is surrender.

"And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it."—Matthew 10:38-39. These two verses are alpha and omega.

The prejudiced, opinionated little self is the only cross you carry. Instead of marching to freedom, you arrive at the Gates of Surrender on your knees, exhausted, still afraid of losing your independence, not realizing "little me" has already robbed you of it. The little self wants freedom so "they" will not bother you.

You can avoid people by living alone or ignoring your family. People become deaf because the subconscious mind knows they really do not want to hear what others must say. The subconscious obeys utterly, and will close out the whole world.

Set your single-track subconscious on ascension. Surrender so the Power of God can brush aside the veils of illusion. You "find your life" if you accept responsibility for your every act, and surrender the little self. Yet you "lose your life" if you seek self at others' expense or renege on responsibility. Who is responsible for cleaning up the mess when someone upsets your tray?

Surrender. Grab your "firstborn" of self as a sacrifice to the Father, taking up your sword of truth in action to kill self. The veils of illusion disappear and you can see the glory of high heavenly temples.

Surrender to be "killed" for Resurrection and Ascension. The little self's cross becomes a ladder of Light, and you turn back to the world bearing the sword in responsibility and a torch of love.

I Ascend!

When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him."—John 2:1-11.

What is ascension? A mystical term, ascension is to the mystic what atomic research is to the scientist. It is a positive, deliberate moving inward, a "getting behind" the visible material appearance.

Ascension is a refining process of the soul, the moving up from self-confidence, which is a variable thing, to soul confidence, which is a constant, based in divine principle.

Science penetrates though the outer husk into that inner substance, held within the outer shell as in a protective sheath. You cannot see the finer substance released from the atom with the physical eye. Yet you can see the effect during the controlled release of this substance.

A mind penetrating this sheath is called ascension of consciousness. You may not see the soul of man with the physical eye, but you can see the effects of the soul's release of Power. Soul-power, unleashed, acts on the outer sheath.

Self expression shows as what we call personality. Soul expression not only shows as personality, but the world feels it. Self confidence impresses no one because you see through it. Soul confidence shows, and inspires the world.

Living by self dulls the personality, while living by soul makes it shine. Self confidence is based in outer things, but soul confidence places its trust in unfailing principle, which never falters.

Mary herself had been born of an immaculate conception. She had fully open spiritual seeing and hearing, and knew that Jesus must begin his ministry. Yet Jesus, who also knew, must have had a moment of something like dread. Remember, he suffered in all ways, even as other men suffer. He had to endure every experience to hold fast the lines of responsibility when he took them up through the Gates of Light.

The six stone waterpots symbolize a solid foundation. "Six" represents the creative cosmic Father and Mother, the double trinity of all creation. When his mother told the servants to obey him, she opened his whole mission on the love vibration, the Mother ray.

She knew what he meant when he said, "Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come."> She prepared the way. Jesus then ate his words. Immediately he opened his ministry by telling them to fill the waterpots. Simply, with no fuss, he told them to draw some wine and take it to the master of the feast.

When you pray, you must use all that you have now. At this point, self desire and self will fuse into free will, the infallible perfect will of God. Soul, which is already part of God the All, instantly absorbs self confidence into I AM soul confidence.

Self confidence must change into soul confidence when selfish desires and self-centered will become soul desires and free will, which form I AM consciousness, the fusing of desire and will.

Why does your neighbor not ascend in consciousness as you do? An immature chick in the shell is too weak to peck its way out, but would die if you opened its shell from the outside. A mother hen sits on the nest, alert to the tiniest peep, ready to get off, not to smother her chick.

You cannot take anyone up too soon or too suddenly. Self-confidence must change to soul confidence slowly and gradually, or the explosion can burn out the finer soul function of the endocrine glands, which take a long time to replace.

Take ascension one step at a time, to ascend in consciousness slowly, gradually filled with the full Power of God. The full atomic Power is ninth dimensional substance, which burns out the dross. It is dynamic, dramatic, self-sustaining and self-renewing. Nothing on earth can resist its irresistible movement, for it changes anything it touches, and transforms your life.

How do you apply this to your daily life? Lift all your lines of Light and responsibility. You already hold the lines of earth responsibility, from all people in all the signs, in your hands. If you let go of the lines, they fall back, and entangle you with others. Yet all are safe while you are standing in the white Light of the Christ, holding the lines.

Mary, representing the feminine Mother of Love in this text, is soul intuition, a part of "I AM," saying, "The time has come." Every day is your miracle day. Love must always prepare the way.

The son in this example is the little self, saying. "How does this relate to me?" Self is always afraid to let go of its "little" self-confidence, yet self must become soul confidence to know the glorious freedom from bondage to earth.

Then is the promise fulfilled, "Verily, verily, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."—John 1:51.

I Ascend (b)

To ascend, you must first know what Ascension means. Different cults and sects have made Ascension so personal that especially self-confident persons apply it until they become too saintly to live with their families, break marital vows, and leave their loved ones with aching and broken hearts.

Soul ascension is to the world of devotion to God, to searchers and students of God's principles, exactly what atomic research is to scientists. Moving from outer to inner, science breaks the sheath of an atom, releasing protons, neutrons and electrons. Spirit moves through the five outer senses to the inner world of the soul where you find life's essence, but only if you accept.

You cannot prove these truths wholesale, and each must prove them for himself. You cannot break an atom, though your body does so constantly, but we believe that it can be done.

You take the physicists' word on faith though are not in the lab, because you see the results. So you can take Jesus' words on faith because enough people have proven his words through the last nineteen centuries.

Ascension is moving inward and upward to the world of miracles. The mundane world will see and believe when enough people ascend to the miraculous world.

You cannot contact your full powers of soul without three phases of ascension: Emergence from outer to inner, maturity or expansion in consciousness, and ascension inward and upward to the ninth dimension, which you use in healing and soul ascension.

The whole process of ascension is a travail of soul moving from self-confidence, which is egotism, to soul-confidence. "Father, I surrender to be possessed by all Power." You may not use Power, but it uses you.

Self-confidence splits and cracks when needed most, but soul confidence is immutable and unchangeable because you have ascended to God. It increases your capacity to release Power and you can see the results. You see such selfish expressions in the faces of people you meet. Failed self-confidence shows as the wrinkles of time.

Soul has personality, which you can see as the Light within shining from the eyes. Eyes like a dead fish's show that the person has used up his soul substance. No self dims the eyes of an ascending soul.

This text paints a picture of Jesus and Mary at the wedding in Cana. Mary interfered when she said, "They have no wine," and Jesus told her to mind her own business. Yet she instructed the servants to do his bidding and he changed the water into wine.

Jesus had to eat his words only twice, at the wedding, and in Gethsemane when he said, "Let this cup pass from me." Everyone must lift and wipe out his idle words and misused soul substance.

Pride is the adulterous taint that kills hope. Watch for it on your path. Most people think that admitting they are wrong is degrading, and flatter themselves if another rephrases to admit his error.

Erase your misused words instantly, and admit you are still learning. Saying, "I do not know," is no disgrace. The library is full of books that can give you the answers. [Today, the internet is a way to find many answers, but double check and take a salt shaker of discernment and discrimination with you.]

You release Power when you answer a question. One who answers under great Light is responsible for the Power the answer releases, though the Masters pick up the slack or cover any slip.

Mary's incarnation was an immaculate conception. She knew her role in the overall plan for Jesus' mission, but did she know, as she started him on his ministry, that it would end in his death? She knew he would ascend, perhaps before thousands, but not after a crucifixion.

Mary simply knew that Jesus had to begin his ministry on the vibration of Mother Love before he could ascend. The water at the wedding represented the ruling Wisdom vibration, which draws out, being changed into the wine of Spirit, the Love vibration that draws everything back to the Source.

This story describes how Jesus ascended from self-confidence to soul confidence. We are all self-confident in varying degrees, yet few of us have yet attained full soul confidence.

Why, you ask, won't your family and friends accept this new idea, too? Accepting new ideas and concepts means cracking the old idea's shell. You may not prematurely or harshly crack others' shells under ascension laws. You would smash atoms, destroy the endocrine glands and they would have nothing left with which to understand.

The best way to crack another's shell is to be such an ensample of unconquerable faith, unquenchable love, invincible joy and irresistible attraction that the ninth dimension of universal fellowship reaches out and enfolds everyone. Never ask why, but simply follow the Via Christa to become an instrument of all Power.

Would you follow a moth-eaten teacher? Then why follow old, worn out ideas? Do you not seek a God of beauty, love, wisdom and joy? You are now ascending from self to soul confidence. How do you apply this to your life?

Jesus came to experience every earth lesson and lift every line of darkness through the Gates of Light when he ascended. So did you. Someone on earth must reach out and draw in the fallen lines, and this is your duty today.

The Zodiacal Path is the Wheel of Fate, and its center is the hub of white Christ Light. Withdraw your past and step from your birth sign to the hub of Light when you ascend, though others may clutch and try to pull you off.

You cannot drag others with you as you go to God, yet you can and must pick up their lines of Light and put them on a cloud continent for Light to transform them. Then you are responsible for holding the lines until they, too, ascend. Stand on the hub of the wheel, in your room of Light when a blow strikes. The choice is yours. You can wallow in birth sign negativity, or ascend to the wheel's hub, lifting the darkened lines.

Mary, prompting Jesus at the wedding, symbolizes the Mother preparing the way with love. Your time has come. The world needs the wine of Spirit, the Mother Love vibration leading from self to soul-confidence.

The six vessels of stone represent your creative powers based on immutable principles. Your Guards pour Power from waterpots to make your creative powers blossom. Declare, "Fill the waterpots," and they will. Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast of God's love.

Jesus, the Teacher

Edna Lister sermon transcript; October 3, 1954, Buffalo, New York. Scribes: Edna Bender, Ruth Bender Collord. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13.

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity."—1 Corinthians 13.

Jesus the Christ was a world teacher. The sign of a truly great teacher, not the person but the result of the teachings, is first, the qualities the teachings evoke in students, and second, the number of followers.

Everyone who shows the Christlike qualities is a teacher who radiates that certain something that makes you follow. Thousands of people followed Jesus in his time, tens of thousands followed his disciples, but millions follow his teachings today. Teachers, ministers and priests teach the work of Jesus the Christ in every nation on earth, which is the outer proof of Jesus' status as Christ.

Without love as charity, you are as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. If you have all heavenly love for healing, but have no brotherly love, you are a noisy, discordant instrument.

The dictionary says that the love of God for man and the love of man for man is good will, a quality of being kind and benevolent. Good is God's name on earth and carries the vibration of the original Emanations.

God, under the universal legal framework, will not tolerate anything that has His name on it to escape being changed back to its original likeness. To stamp it "good" in the morning but "no good" at night cuts the Power and reverts it to the old image. Will is a Wisdom principle, and you call on the Father's name whenever you apply it, yet "good will" as just words is cold.

Kindness resides in charity under Mother love. You create benevolence by combining the Father's will with the Mother's love. An example is King David, who had to marry many wives to unite the northern and southern tribes of Israel, which represent good will and love.

You interpret love as charity by integrating it with forgiveness, which is an aspect of charity that you must "work" to express. Forgiveness is not the offender's obligation, but the offended one's, and he does all the forgiving.

You have all heard someone say, "You cannot get blood from a turnip." Forgiveness is the ability to do that, to come up over life's darkness, to face it and overlook it, to give something for the offense. You have only the love of God, or charity to give. Charity is the love of God for man, the love of man for man, and the love of man for God.

You cannot gain humility, peace or patience by thinking about it. Who can love God by "thinking about it," an attitude that produces nothing? When you love God enough, you become the love that is charity. The opposite of humility is self-exaltation, the part of you that sees evil.

When the love of God fills you as charity, you are love, for love is charity. If you can blame anyone on earth for a single thing, you do not have charity, but an unforgiving attitude. If you can remember it, you have not forgiven it.

Review the past if you want to be free. Examine your life, lift the offenders, which include anyone who has told you how to do something.

Self-exaltation sees everyone who pointed a finger at you. If you waste a month moping about another's criticism, you accomplish nothing, for an offender has not a lick of sense. Call it back, accept it, declare it good and hold them. Say, "Come to mama," and love them with the love of God for God.

Charity receives everything the world can produce as love. Think about love, not about their action. You can give any gift of darkness to God. Help others without investing your life in them. It ties you together in bondage and does not train the other fellow positively.

Balance your qualities of good will and love. Never be soft, gullible or let others take advantage of you. Ask yourself, "Will this be good all the time?"

What does it matter if you poured out love on one who proves unworthy? Love, given as charity, lasts a long time. Reach out with arms of love all over earth and ask the Father to cleanse and purify this "whatever."

Declare the person good and very good. Declare that everything is good to transform it. The love of God is the most steadfast of all. Ask Him to return their soul substance to them as purified substance, and ask for more love of God.

Jesus gave all that he had to teach, and it has redeemed the world. Each has put on a portion of the Mantle of a Messiah. To fulfill your mission, declare, "Father, show me where and how to serve You better." Say, "I rejoice and am glad" nine times, rhythmically.

The white Christ Light will forge the sword of life and death for the pure of heart under law, as law. Your living soul shall wield the sword under the spoken Word to sever the dead past.

Jesus, the Psychologist

Edna Lister sermon transcript; October 17, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scriptures: Matthew 8:1-4, Matthew 9:18-24, John 9:1-7.

"When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them."—Matthew 8:1-4.

"As Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing."—John 9:1-7.

"Behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: for she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, he said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose."—Matthew 9:18-24.

Anthropologists in Malaysia found people whose mythology says they sprang from a maiden o'ershadowed by the Holy Spirit. Every civilization springs from similar origins, from creator gods who descended to earth and established divinity for every race. A First Pair has always opened each great cycle.

The Father o'ershadowed Jesus, the first Begotten Son, long before his most recent ministry began. He was the only Begotten Son whom the Father begat, or who held the scepter of God's full Power in his right hand. Jesus had the power to destroy the fig tree, yet he was the one outstanding teacher who never used his scepter of Power for himself.

Jesus' ministry was all embracing, from the personal to the universal: "I and the Father are one" and "the kingdom of heaven is open to all who believe." No other messiah has matched him for the universality of his teaching. He taught responsibility and commitment, but the masses are not ready for this.

Jesus never defended his position, but always said, "not I but the Father works through me." Mainstream Christianity rejects this, but God uses all religions to lift the masses from creature consciousness to become sons of men.

Jesus was both a healer and a scientist who based his laws and teaching on the pure scientific fact of One God. As a philosopher, he established an approach to life that works when you let God as principle use you.

He was the greatest teacher of mysticism, for he taught God as the first personality, One. He spoke only of the Father, for the Mother was hidden for protection. Yet he taught that the Power of the Holy Spirit energizes Father Wisdom and Mother Love. He made these creative mysteries difficult to unfold, for they could destroy the world.

The masses fear they will lose identity if they live by love rather than by the little self. They are afraid to stop blaming others, so must have a scapegoat.

After Jesus healed the leper, he told him, "See that you tell no one, but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." This text shows how Jesus worked as a psychologist. Psychology is a study of the universal Mind of God operating through man as man. Jesus knew how divine Mind operates in man.

Lepers were unclean in the eyes of Jewish Law and no one was permitted to touch them without risk of becoming ritually impure. Jesus touched this man and sent him to the temple priests who would verify his healing. The leper had to give an offering for his healing because of his fear. Jesus used every outer agent, including the priests, to ensure the healing would hold.

After Jesus anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, he told him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam." This text shows how Jesus used psychology in healing. Like the pool at Bethesda, an unearthly wind rippled Siloam's waters. Both pools had a psychological benefit in their reputation for healing the first person to step into the water after it rippled.

A miracle includes Power, Spirit, faith and substance. The subconscious holds thousands of suggestions and memory impressions. This young man's subconscious mind was full of ideas of blindness from his birth.

Jesus knew he had to heal him psychologically and physically, so he mixed clay and spittle to heal his eyes and memory. He had to convince the young man's subconscious to declare the healing, which was the mental suggestion.

A lesson needs to be learned whenever a miracle is delayed, as with this man whom Jesus sent to wash away the clay. Jesus reinforced the psychological impact by sending him to wash off the sticky clay, all to build the man's faith; he already believed that the clay would work. The washing action increased circulation in his eyes.

The rest of this chapter is a lesson in what not to do after a miracle. First, do not talk about it, which drains the Power and invites people to interject their negative ideas.

"Behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshiped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live. And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples. And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: for she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole."—Matthew 9:18-21.

This text illustrates feminine and masculine faith, and the healing modes of laying on of hands, touch, and a spiritual agent. The ruler, whose daughter was dead, and the woman with a flow of blood, both knelt at his feet. She had absorbed faith as virtue from Jesus' aura when she touched him.

"When Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, he said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose."—Matthew 9:23-24.

Jesus reached out the instant the ruler asked, and held his daughter, who seemed dead, so that the atoms of her cells did not collapse. He permitted only five people, who loved him, to remain in the room. The power of love was moving through with no opposition or cross-vibration.

Psychological healing uses outside material agents, purely spiritual means, and laying on of hands, touch. Do not resist outside agents, like glasses or crutches, because you must bring the body up to spiritual efficiency, and most have been solid ice.

After you drink enough cod liver oil to rehabilitate the body, you may realize that you can go directly to the Maker of codfish. You can raise the body's vibration through shots, if you declare that they hold the Power of a communion chalice.

What you think in your heart and mind changes the material body's vibration, so change it into spiritual good. Stamp everything with your Oversoul attitude, and I AM consciousness.

The Father can heal anybody of any condition. Declare it good. Stand and wait upon Him in the high place.

Jesus, the Scientist

Edna Lister sermon outline; October 31, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; May 29, 1955, Tacoma, Washington. Scripture: Matthew 5:1-12.

“Seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” — Matthew 5:1-12.

Six creative laws contain the mysteries of the Mother Love principle, which are attitudes of acceptance of and surrender to God in devotion. You accept and surrender to God as personality, while you worship and obey God as the Father Wisdom principle. The nine Beatitudes represent the laws and attitudes to express toward your fellow man, and masculine strength forming an auric sheath of protection.

The first beatitude is "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:2. "Poor in spirit" means possessing nothing as your own, but releasing all the Power that God sends through you. In Jesus' time, being poor in spirit symbolized the opposite of pride. God created the soul for law to use, not for self to use law, or Light as Mind, Substance, or Power.

You face three main temptations in ascension: the first step up from the creature to the son of man stage, the first consciousness of your need to give up self, and the first consciousness of sacrificing self in service for another. The desire for self-preservation is a sure sign of dwelling in creature consciousness.

The second Beatitude is "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."—Matthew 5:4. Creature consciousness mourns in the vale of illusion, the valley of grief, which is a misty place caused by tears shed in self-pity. Selfish grief is feeling loss, and crying, "What shall I do?"

Self grieves when soul requires it to give up its possession of people, things, thoughts, pictures and emotions. Animals experience no grief, but those of creature consciousness create and experience self-centered grief through the son of man, to the son of God stages.

The son of God stage starts as the first unselfish grief for another, which opens the first marriage of the Lamb, mating desire and will. "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; to him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."—Revelation 2:17.

The hidden manna is intuition and illumination. The inner name of the pineal body is I AM consciousness, which is your first "new name."

The third Beatitude is "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."—Matthew 5:5. The soul becomes the complete son of God, with the Spirit of the Lord going before us as "I accept." You move into the arms of the vast protective law of nonresistance, which fills your aura with rays of repulsion of darkness, to absorb any vibrations from the world and return them as perfect.

The fourth Beatitude is "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."—Matthew 5:6. Only this step can you ever touch or contact love enough. This is the first step after the outpouring of Power that leads you from the son of God into the creator stage.

Righteousness is right doing, or your soul's vision in action. Step by step, as you assume these "Be-attitudes," you grow in the stature of the Christ. When you exclaim, "I arise," you ascend to your Christing. The white wings of the Christ Light descend to enfold and protect the golden bowl, your head. Life itself becomes your miracle, a stage on which you play the part of the creator until you become a surrendered creator.

The fifth Beatitude is "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."—Matthew 5:7. Compassion takes over and you become a "defender of the faith of God." Use your compassion to cover your loved ones' transgressions so even God cannot see them. Thus, under law, they are cleansed now. Declare that "All is good."

This fifth step is comprehension of the beauty of God and the need to keep it spotless everywhere. You know freedom from darkness because you just cannot see anything but blame-less-ness. Compassion is yours to spend lavishly.

The sixth Beatitude is "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."—Matthew 5:8. Purity of heart, mind and purpose follows mercy. With honor above all else as your ideal, you cannot bear to stand in the darkness. The full law of forgiveness takes charge in your life. You can stand blamelessly because you have become the law of blamelessness.

The seventh Beatitude is "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."—Matthew 5:9. Peacemakers are pacesetters in ascension. Declare, "I lift all that comes to me up as I walk and praise the Creator of protection. I assume all blame, lifting it because it surfaced through the Light I carry."

The eighth Beatitude is "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:10. You now become the full servant of all the Mind, Substance and Power.

The white Light of the Christ is a visible sign of a soul ascending to be crowned. To be persecuted for righteousness' sake symbolizes high vision in action because religion is an active process in life, a constant rebuke to lukewarmness and indifference. It is a sign that you are not a part-timer, but constantly remain up in consciousness, with your head above the crowd, which is a growth in consciousness.

No longer a target, the love of God melts, dissolves and absorbs all weapons of darkness turned against you. Light melts bullets and turns swords into hoops. This is the step of full surrender, the last step in becoming a creator of good.

The eighth Beatitude is surrender, and the ninth Beatitude is responsibility. You may permit the self no enemies, no blame. You deal with everyone in compassion. This covers social, business and family relationships. The ninth Beatitude is "Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you, and shall say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."—Matthew 5:11-12. Nine symbolizes the two-way mirror in which Light shines and reveals all the dark smudges, his and yours.

When two live wires meet, they spark and could electrocute. When the other fellow comes near, your mirror reflects what he is beneath the surface, and he decides that you are to blame. So he tells you that what he sees is in you. He has yet to learn about reflections, so you lift in love. Nine also represents brotherhood and responsibility. Being blamed is a sign that I AM has become a teacher!

Each Beatitude is a scientific "way of life." This magic mirror opens the all-seeing eye of soul vision so that you may see and hear spiritually when needed.

"Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."—Matthew 5:37. Others may persecute and revile you "for my sake" when you live by yea and nay. You can say, "Bless you," to lift a person Even a smile covers transgressions.

The first three Beatitudes govern the son of man who is seeking his divine inheritance. The second three govern the son of God, who is actively doing, receiving Light, opening a vibration, and is used by law from above. The final three Beatitudes govern creators who are becoming law and returning with "all things added" from the outer on their return vibration.

Jesus, the Scientist

Edna Lister sermon transcript; October 31, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scripture: Matthew 5:1-12.

"Seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."—Matthew 5:1-12.

Six laws contain the creative mysteries of the Mother principle, how you adjust your attitudes in your expression of God. We call them laws of absolute necessity:

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."—Matthew 6:33. "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him. —Matthew 5:25. "What is that to thee? Follow thou me."—John 21:22. "Abstain from all appearance of evil."—1 Thessalonians 5:22. "I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."—John 12:32. Declare everything good. Let there be Light!—Genesis 1.

Six is the number symbolizing the Mother, and nine is the number representing the Father. The nine Beatitudes are attitudes of acceptance and of surrender to God as personality in devotion. They define how you may express the love principles in service to humanity. As nine masculine "law attitudes" of strength, they form your auric sheath of protection.

The Beatitudes contain everything you need to know about how to ascend the body in which you dwell, scientifically. You really can slough the physical completely. Together, these fifteen laws of the lesser mysteries take you from creature to creator consciousness, from self to soul-preservation.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:3. The vibration of "blessed" is tremendous, yet this single verse has fostered the whole mistaken idea that ministers must be financially poor to be "good."

The secret of this Beatitude is that God created the living soul for law to use. Possessing nothing as mine, I cannot use the Power sent through me, since I am only the vehicle that it uses. The first glimmer of soul-consciousness shows in giving up emotional "possessions," self stripped to poverty of darkness, negative thoughts and deeds.

No matter how high you have ascended, even if you have finished the 33 Via Christa Degrees, self-preservation taints can sends you back. You may seek soul-preservation only. Self-pity is rooted in the desire to preserve self alone.

Light takes things from you to lift you from the creature stage, from the hole or ditch where you were stuck. Once Light spoils the hole, you cannot crawl back into it. "Blessed are the poor" who are now free or "poor" of the dark hole from which Light had to blast them.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."—Matthew 5:4. Animals do not grieve as humans do, and those of no more than creature consciousness grieve for the self alone. The valley of grief is a vale of illusion, a misty place where you peer through a foggy veil of self. Self-pitying tears, heated by the fever of self, create the mist of illusion. The next step is to grieve for others, which is the first sign of the higher nature unfolding.

Those who grieve unselfishly step up, and begin to climb when they mourn because they have failed to serve God. You must continuously lift on each step to ascend. The first sacrifice of self in mourning takes you through the first marriage of the Lamb, moving from self to soul.

"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."—Revelation 2:17. This relates to the first marriage of the Lamb, where you mate will with desire. The hidden manna is intuition and illumination. The inner name of the pineal body is "I AM." Blessed are those who give their mourning to God.

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."—Matthew 5:5. The third Beatitude releases the first Power from the realm of creators. The Father judges and times the release of supreme Power for His beloved ones, or you could lose your body. He would then have no one to release Power on earth.

You create delay when you ask why. He says, "Come up, child. Why delay?" Laziness is why we still have war. You must ascend in consciousness, saying, "I accept that this is good," before force returns to you, to save your needing to be dynamited from a hole that self has dug.

You build an auric mold on the principle of your attitude toward God. "This is good" will cause your heart center to radiate poniard-like rays of repulsion through your aura to absorb, so no harm can touch you. Yet you must reach up and turn on the "Blessed are the meek" switch, which is "I accept." This law invokes the great principle of nonresistance with its protective rays of repulsion.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled."—Matthew 5:6. You cannot rest on your laurels. You can go no further until you worship God as personality. Worshiping God as principle is fine, but you cannot become the next five be-attitudes until you develop Christed consciousness. Compassion and love of God for God must possess you. The love of God moves on a ray of repulsion that acts as funnel for Light.

The reward of hungering and thirsting are the white Wings of the Christ, which descend from the Oversoul. They anchor in the collarbones, fan out and curl over the ears like a ram's horns to form a vacuum that opens hearing. You lose them when you have missed the mark of devotion and cry, "Where has God gone?"

"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."—Matthew 5:7. To be merciful means to cover others' darkness with Light from above to absorb it so that no one charges a debt of blame. You are ready to obtain mercy when you cannot bear to leave God's blameless Light, or feel crucified when you hear another charge a debt of blame. Mercy is the motive to cover everything until you blot it out with love. Be a merciful defender of the faith of the living God.

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."—Matthew 5:8. An impure heart has something other than God's laws written on it. It may entertain deceitful thoughts, envy, jealousy, covetous emotions or may forcefully manipulate others. You will be pure of heart if you let Mind, Substance and Power use you.

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God."—Matthew 5:9. Self, soul and Oversoul in agreement are at peace, having become an ensample of how to lift. "I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."—John 12:32. A peacemaker is an ascension pacesetter for everyone around him.

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:10. To endure persecution requires complete surrender to be possessed of supreme Power, which the Father sends through you here. It's a long step up from creature consciousness to surrender to "Let your light so shine."

You must erase the blame in your own heart and from all others, so no one can say you are egotistical when Power uses you. It may be painful, because it takes a blow torch of love to penetrate the heart of self. You must take care, for though your heart could stand it, the other would die. He too must be left free to lift self, layer by layer.

"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and shall say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven."—Matthew 5:11-12. This is the ninth Beatitude. Nine is the number of the soul's mirror when you have accomplished all the rest. Light covers you with a mirror-like shield that shows others their subconscious spots, and they say about you what they see in the mirror.

When others say you are "hard," you can think, "My Father understands me," for He does. The dark spot will reflect on your side of the mirror if you are hurt or offended by blame, but they stop reviling you when your feet have ascended from sight.

This step is essential for polishing. You must still obey the nine lesser mysteries of soul cleansing after you have climbed the last 144 steps, so God can reach out and erase your debts in the universal record.

Rejoice and ponder the glory of drawing forth Light from the Source, and erasing the other fellow's blame with compassion. Rejoice gladly, moving up, glorifying God because His mercy has blotted out millions of your debts. Ascension of consciousness is the Law and the Prophets.

Jesus, the Physician

Edna Lister sermon transcript; November 7, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scriptures: John 5:2-10, Matthew 9:2-10, Matthew 12:43-45, Mark 5:2-13.

"Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath. The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed."—John 5:2-10.

"And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. And he arose, and departed to his house. But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men."—Matthew 9:2-8.

"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."—Matthew 12:43-45.

"And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshiped him, and cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea."—Mark 5:2-13.

The examples of Jesus' healing methods in the Gospels fall into four groups: Psychology, metaphysics, science and mysticism. Jesus, as a psychologist, healed by overcoming compulsions and obsessions in the psychological nature. Jesus, as a metaphysician, healed by enticing people to completely surrender self. Jesus, as a scientist, healed by teaching people to assume responsibility, as he taught in the Beatitudes. Jesus, as a mystic, applied their faith of God to heal them.

John's story of the healing at Bethesda illustrates healing through faith. The waters of the Pool of Bethesda were reputed to heal the first one who entered them each day. This man had been ill thirty-eight years, yet he never whined or blamed. He waited patiently, never losing faith that someday he would get in that pool. He was healed immediately when Jesus said, "Arise, take up your bed and go to your house."

Instant acceptance is the highlight of this episode. Now is the time to take advantage of faith. The body is physical, organic. The heart infers emotions. The mind indicates thinking and imagination.

Psychologists study mental and emotional causes of illness. Jesus healed not only the body, but the heart of subconscious emotions and mind by casting out evil spirits.

Jesus raised the dead, healed the halt, the lame and blind, and cast out devils. Evil spirits are entities that you draw to yourself. If you have a "worst favorite," it forms a little cloud that sticks to your shoulder. An entity can float along attached to you, and can envelop you in darkness until a great black cloud bogs you down. You can "see" such clouds surrounding patients in a mental institution. These entities have no power in themselves, but they can press that one emotional button that irritates a soul.

When an "evil" or "unclean" spirit is cast out, the person is "empty, swept, and put in order" like a room after someone has moved. You cleanse it but must fill it again, for it is useless left empty. If an evil spirit cannot find a new home, it returns, and may move in, bringing seven more with it so it cannot be pushed out so easily again.

Evil spirits may be disembodied souls, entities, mental shadows that have no power to express themselves, or the "dweller on the threshold" of consciousness that someone has created. One entity attracts another until a cloud of them may cover a person. He is possessed by an evil spirit if it moves in far enough to control his will.

The Master cast out many evil spirits. A disembodied soul, even one that has become an evil spirit, may call on God to be saved, if it still knows that it is a soul.

The evil spirits that Jesus sent into swine were nearly mindless disembodied souls that could still think of self-preservation. They asked not to be destroyed or absorbed in Light, but begged him to live. They had sunk too low to build a body, but possessed one instead.

Jesus knew these souls had begged for mercy, and sent them into swine, which ran over a cliff into the sea. When the swine drowned, the soul substance was sent to high fires of purification. This story illustrates how to get rid of what ails you: Pour in Light from above.

The man at the Bethesda pool was waiting on the Lord to heal him, and his faith and acceptance enabled Jesus to heal him physically in an instant. Healing needs a clean heart and a spirit of forgiveness.

The young paralytic in Matthew's text needed a healing of his heart, his emotional life because a lifetime of paralysis had completely usurped his will. He needed action from the outside, so his friends had compassion and brought him to the Master. They had carried him on a bed, which took time and effort, and proved their faith that the Master would heal him. Their action was the new substance of faith being poured into him.

You need a forgiving spirit to send you into complete surrender. Jesus knew when to mention forgiveness of sins, and knew he could say it, for he had full access to the Power of the Source, which perfects the body as it fills it.

Fear, illness or hurts create definite signals in the heart like electrical wires plugged into an outlet. Healing Power pulls the plug to release the heart and opens it. "Your sins are forgiven" says you are giving Light for their darkness to relieve their heart. You must lighten their load before they can "arise and walk."

While you must pray that Light covers others' transgressions and surround them in Light, you may not be arrogant as were the scribes, who challenged Jesus when he told the man to take up his bed. "Jesus, knowing their thoughts" is proof that he could see and hear: "Why do you think evil in your hearts?"

Such men started the vibration that crucified him. They said it was the Sabbath, "You have no right." Afterward, "Jesus passed from there," which means that he disappeared. He appeared and disappeared often during his ministry.

You may not want to relinquish earth before you take up heavenly laws, but you must. As you cross the burning sands of the desert, you wonder if you made the wrong choice. God has never stopped holding you from the instant you invoked His power of faith.

The Gates to Heaven open and you can climb higher after you have emptied body, heart and mind, moved up, and mated will to desire, which will recondition anyone's life. Rip out the old plug to put in a new line to the Source, and send an irresistible call for all Power to descend through you.

Cross your hands over your breast and ask a blessing of the Lord. The "praying hands" gesture symbolizes devotion to God. Hold your hands high or as a chalice to release full Power, and when you are ready, spread your arms and say, "Father, send me." Do not complain when a mess comes for lifting, or let anything spoil the bliss of soul ascension. Now is the time to gain greater comprehension of what loving is.

Emptying, sweeping and putting in order, the Elects' love of God for God has won half the Armageddon. God cannot wipe out war, or He would destroy His own creations. He may not end war until His Elect stand before Him, fearless and doubtless.

You must surrender in devotion and acceptance. You, like a ship moored to the Light of God, are God's glory in action. Declare "Father, I love You," and see only the One Light. Keep up your prayer efforts, for we pray in love as one.

Jesus, the Son of God

Edna Lister sermon transcript; November 21, 1954, Buffalo, New York. Scribes: Edna Bender, Ruth Bender Collord. Scripture: John 14:6-21.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."—John 14:6-21.

Mind does not direct and control itself. Mind must have personality to direct and control it.

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him."—1 John 5:1. This says that God begat His Son, which means that the Begotten Son stepped forth from the Supreme Father before He created other sons and daughters, and children of man, who came up through the evolutionary process.

Creation's whole purpose is to ascend from the creature stage to become creators with God. When you enter the realm of God's personality, you must take personal responsibility for all.

You earn your ascension by being responsible for your place and service, and ascend just as high on the inner as you earn here. Jesus, as the Messiah, gave us all the law and instruction we need to ascend to the Father.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."—John 14:6. Jesus dictated the Gospels from the inner. He could say he is "the way" because he was the First Begotten Son of God, and the only one to whom the Supreme Father gave the scepter of Power. Jesus is part of the Supreme Father, thus, he is "the truth."

A son is an individual expression of a father and mother. The Father emanation is Wisdom, and the Mother is Love. The emanations flow as principle and personality equally at the beginning of a great Day of Manifestation.

We call the Son emanation the Logos of Energy, and the joy of that will open blind eyes and heal today. It includes the whole vibration of life itself, so he is "the life." The Holy Ghost, the essence of God as the Son, is a balance of Love and Wisdom as joy, Christ consciousness, and vitality. He shows us the way. We know the truth if we see him as the Christ, for if we see him, we have seen the Father. He is the very embodiment of the life that we breathe.

"He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."—John 14:12. You must believe the promises he gave before this verse.

"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."—John 14:13-14. He will grant any request, give any gift, if you ask in his name, which is how you do the greater works.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."—John 14:15. The love of God is a "because" kind of love, not "in spite of," which adulterates love. "I love you because you belong to God."

When you have offended someone without knowing why, your mental malpractice "in spite of" thoughts have struck them. Jesus promised that you can do the greater works "because I go to my Father."

"He that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."—John 14:21. Jesus promises that we shall see him by the simple fact of believing.

The way, or the energy in you is the Christ, and this energy is joy. Thus, the way must manifest itself through joy, the exaltation of Spirit, going to the Father through the Son. Joy is the Son, and you must go to the Father through joy to reach the place of the greater works.

Soul ascension requires that you be receptive and hold an open mind. Take an inventory of how much divine life you do or do not draw from the River of Life. Say, "How rich is my Father, and how wealthy I am." Everything God has is yours if you visualize, see, dream and hold to it.

Depend on the Father's words. Declare, "I shall do the greater works and have all added things after I sign my covenant with God." You cannot sit down on the job, but do the next thing next as completely as possible. You work out your salvation, using your brain every moment, even if your physical is drooping.

Soul ascension also requires that you be flexible, which is your ability to agree and adjust. The six laws of necessity apply here:

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."—Matthew 6:33. "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him. —Matthew 5:25. "What is that to thee? Follow thou me."—John 21:22. "Abstain from all appearance of evil."—1 Thessalonians 5:22. "I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."—John 12:32. Declare everything good and follow that with "Let there be Light!"—Genesis 1.

You must declare everything good — no half-way measures will do. Anyone can adjust to his fellow man by obeying the laws found in the Beatitudes. Finally, soul ascension requires that you be balanced. Balance is the perfect expression of joy, compassion and the love of the Christ.

Jesus, the Lawyer

Edna Lister sermon transcript; November 28, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio; July 20, 1941. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scriptures: Matthew 22:34-46, Matthew 5:17-20.

"But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions."—Matthew 22:34-46.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:17-20.

The Bible has many hidden meanings. Jesus' every charge to his disciples, all his parables, and the first and last chapters of John show that his teachings were universal and based on pure, unadulterated, immutable divine law.

Today's texts contain warnings of how not to do it, methods of obeying law, promises of reward to conquerors, and makes three major points: You must fulfill law. You must be perfect. You must know how to pray.

God's original Emanations of Light established the framework of divine laws that uphold the universes. Mind thinks and plans, Substance fills the molds, nourishes and sustains all life.

The love of God keeps us alive because the atomic radiation of the Son, as Christed consciousness, permeates everything. The walls around us would disintegrate, the life sparks would be drawn in if atomic substance did not penetrate them.

The Christed Logos vibration is joy and harmony, the foundation principle of the individual's expression of life. God expresses principle in stages as Light, color, tone, number and the spoken Word, name or form.

We modify such primary laws of being into secondary laws of doing to fit individual needs of civilization, though humanity has diluted them until not much is left. Unfortunately we have created much evil, darkness, and separation.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled."—Matthew 5:17-18. Jesus speaks here as a lawyer who knows and practices law. His teaching warns against misuse of law, Mind, Substance and Power.

A "good" person or metaphysician who declares everything good without lifting or obeying law is like an errant child who sits with his face in the corner. The Bible is the history of the descended and ascending creator gods and is filled with warnings.

Jesus' teaching also included laws for overcoming your disobedience to law. "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."—Matthew 5:48. This is undiluted, unadulterated law. Perfect law must use every person.

Jesus' third phase of approach teaches how to go up in consciousness by applying law. He gives a great warning, "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:19.

The least in the kingdom is a mindless one who has misused his soul substance until he has become less than an animal, not having even instinctive intelligence. Disobedience to law leads to this.

How could one misinterpretation cause you to disobey law? A person who lives by the self exalts the little self, turns his back on the Light and enters self darkness slowly, a step at a time. A fine example is someone who kids himself that what he does is for another's good. As Light's radiance disappears, he gradually forgets that he ever stood in the House of the Lord.

Even if only as an example of selfishness, you teach others. You descend unless you ascend by taking responsibility.

"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."—Matthew 5:20. Such primary laws are plain and simple. You must be more righteous than the world.

Trying to hammer righteousness into others is self-righteousness. Soul-righteousness is your high vision of righteousness in your life, not a right to use high law. You misuse law if you are self-righteous, justify or exalt self.

So you must move on to overcome the limitations of self, and in each instance confess your guilt that you are living by the self. Others know you by your works as the servant of self, or of all God's Power, harmony and substance.

"I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."—Matthew 5:44. Enemies are the taints in your thinking, imagination and emotional life. No one can change your mind if you know that God is the only Power.

Do you know that God is the Source of Power? Do you stand on this while knowing the truth? A man's enemies are the members of his own household (see Matthew 10:36), his body, mind, heart, vision and soul. How clean do you keep your rooms?

You wallow in the dirt when you go low in consciousness and condemn self or others. The subconscious follows the outer world mind and leads to poor mental and emotional housekeeping. You are the master of your fate, captain of your soul, the creator within that body, so what are you doing with it?

"Bless those who curse you."—Matthew 5:44. A blessing is like leaven that permeates a whole barrel of meal. The love leavening the bread of life feeds God's whole family.

Make a new covenant with God to maintain your body as a glorious temple, for unless you praise its health and perfection in atomic substance, you cannot have a perfect body. Bless your body, even when it pains you.

Let God consciousness vibrate through you. Act as if you believe that God made you in His image and likeness. Indifference is a lack of blessing and a curse in all circumstances, physical, personal, social or business.

"Do good to them who hate you."—Matthew 5:44. Declare, "This is good," for lesser statements are vainly repetitious unless you see the Father in them. Whose substance are you using when you speak? You declare God's substance is evil when you hate.

"Pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."—Matthew 5:44. You must have a flame of devotion in your heart when you answer the call to prayer.

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him."—Matthew 6:6-8.

The prayer room of the Almighty is a state of Oversoul I AM consciousness, but only those who love God can open the door. If you stand on the "sea of glass" and say, "I love You, God the Beloved, God the glorious," you will not even see evil to name it, because evil is nameless before God.

A glance can fill evil things with God's harmony. Never name the evil, but fill it with God and declare it good. God sees evil as only lacking in Light.

Principle is not cold when you love to obey, but red hot. Love God enough to comprehend. Love God more than ever before. Today is your day of days. Go forth and let every hour wear wings as your words become joy, love and Light.

Jesus, the Man of God

Edna Lister sermon transcript; December 5, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scripture: Luke 4:1-12.

"And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee."—Luke 4:1-14.

Jesus' earthly heritage was royal, from the line of David. The whole Plan of Salvation, following Ruth and Boaz, prepared for the descent of the Begotten Son of God, who was born to their descendants, Joseph and Mary of Nazareth. Jesus led his life in three distinct phases, each a living, vital ensample of every type of person's progress, from creature to creator. The first phase of Jesus' life exemplifies the son of man. To understand Jesus' words and works, you must know his background.

Mary, his mother, was an immaculate conception, as proved by the age of her parents, Anna and Joachim, who were far past the fertile stage of life. In an immaculate conception, the fertilization process is atomic and molecular, occurring within the parents' seeds of life inside the mother's desire body. The physical sperm and ovum join as the highly spiritual fifth breath descends the spine of each parent to the solar plexus, vitalizing the physical sperm and ovum.

In a flash of Light, the atomic and molecular vitality is transferred into the physical form. The desire body's invisible, and as yet undetected, molecular substances circulate within the physical body's electrochemical channels. The desire body can create the seed of life as long as breath remains in the physical.

Jesus' body resulted from the joining of his parents' o'ershadowed "seeds of life," not merely physical cells, so although his form was visible substance, its foundation was spiritual. He breathed in one-seventh part of his soul at birth, and it gradually filled his body during the first seven years.

Jesus' work as a son of man included learning his father Joseph's skills as a woodworker. He made exquisite wood inlays, and perhaps an archeologist will someday unearth some of his original work.

Many cults and ancient schools of thought teach that Jesus was only "a good man." When I first began seeking truth, I wanted to kneel before an altar, asking forgiveness, every time I heard that phrase. One day I was caught up in the Spirit and saw that Good is God's name on earth.

God has never named anything "evil," and you strip darkness of its mask when you declare it good. God looks upon everyone in their present state of consciousness and knows that they are good according to their degree and kind.

Those in "soul kindergarten," cannot live on the Mount of Transfiguration. Those whose consciousness is illumined live an illumined life.

People who call Jesus a "good man" do as much to establish his reign on earth as those who adore him as the only Begotten Son. Being a good man was his first step in showing us the way. He showed us how to be good.

Jesus' life as the Son of God, began when he confounded the priests of the temple at age twelve. He had become a Bar Mitzvah (literally, a "Son of Law"), a man in the eyes of Jewish Law.

Jesus breathed in six soul portions while he talked to the wise men in the temple at Jerusalem. From that hour, he traveled and talked with God and men until he was thirty-three.

The creator phase of Jesus' life began when he opened his ministry of teaching and miracles. He taught how to recreate your body, mind and affairs. Jesus' campaign with his disciples also had three phases.

First, he appeared to John the Baptist, was baptized, and the Holy Spirit descended. Jesus allowed John to baptize him to fulfill prophecies, leave a record for us, and to be our ensample.

Similarly, you must be mystically baptized by water and fire. Your Guards take you to the Lake of Purity to wash away every earth taint in your memory cells.

Then he faced three great mystical and material temptations in the wilderness on misuse of God's Mind, Substance and Power. You must pass temptations on every new level in consciousness you reach, but not talking about your success is best, for boasting always invites a challenge.

Jesus worked his first miracle at a wedding in Cana. He wanted Mary to leave him alone because he knew that his first outer miracle would lift him to the creator stage with the scepter of his Father's Power.

He knew his path led from Cana to Calvary. Naturally he wanted to put it off, knowing that working a miracle would cause envy and jealousy in the established priesthood. This miracle declared him a creator publicly.

We move through these phases in our way, too. You must stand and speak truths your family may resent when you are baptized in Spirit. You face tests and "trials by fire" to purge you of rebellion and resentment of how others treat you, God or people.

Finally you recognize and acknowledge your debts, and that law has the right to present you with a bill for payment. You will know that you have paid when you are not tempted to disobey, but look joyously to Light.

Life takes you into the wilderness of self to face the first temptation. Satan, who had also tempted Job, challenged him. "And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."—Luke 4:3-4.

Jesus had fasted forty days and nights and was hungry, so the temptation to turn those stones into bread was real. Jesus answered, "It is written that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." Every word you speak uses and appropriates God's substance.

Opinions come from expressions of the self-will, prejudices from the emotional life. You go from light into shadow if you have prejudices, then you find yourself in the dark.

"And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."—Luke 4:5-8.

The second temptation shows you the mountainous place of the little self that would rule you if you luxuriate in prejudice, opinions and resentment, "all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time." God credits you for one percent if you earn only that, for the kingdom of heaven is always open to all believers.

Self says, "I will give you this power and glory if you will worship me." The political Zealots wanted a king, strong enough to rid them of Roman dominance. Jesus knew that Judas, whom he must choose as a disciple, had been recruiting young men to crown him as king of the Jews.

The whole process of ascension from creature to creator consciousness takes a long time, and from indulging in self to cleansing the taints of all your lives is a huge step. Seek first the kingdom of heaven. Agree with your adversary. Enough Light must move through you to absorb the darkness you have created, for the dark bits are why your desires are not fulfilled.

"And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence. For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."—Luke 4:9-12.

Satan had sunk so far that he forgot Jesus could save himself. Jesus had descended to save Satan and the world. Jesus could have lifted him then, but would have had to make his body so heavy that it would have jeopardized his mission.

The first temptation is always on the choice to obey or disobey law. God did not create you to use law, but for law to use you. Substance goes forth and returns to fill your mold when you are the servant of Power.

As substance moves though your auric sheath, it forms rays of repulsion that stab and hold darkness until your prayers absorb it. These rays operate under the law of repulsion, one of six great earth laws. The world could use repulsion scientifically and would have no more accidents, but you can use this now for protection.

A creator refuses to work phenomena for the public. You would not pursue a career as a snake charmer, but if a snake bit someone, you could speak the Word for the Father to heal them.

The white wings of Christ descend when you let Light use you. Always speak the word for law to act in case of accidents, burns, cuts or broken bones, and put out rays of repulsion to lift when you have a premonition. Every test comes in your most exalted moments, and you will will be vulnerable if you have not maintained your rays of repulsion.

When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he departed from him until a more opportune time arrived. Temptations and tests never end. The higher you ascend, the more thoroughly you must protect yourself from the darts of enemies.

Zip up in Light. Lay a gift on the altar and make it right with your brother. An emotional hurt can throw you, and instantly you must decide whom you are serving, God, self or man. You may make no demands, but you must heal hurts. Put a negative line up to the world and it will cast a shadow to knock you down. Your highest illumination is your weakest point, and you must redo the three temptations until you agree and adjust perfectly. "What is that to thee? Follow thou me."—John 21:22.

To try to love God is idiotic. You do or you do not. Do you comprehend the love of God? You need no special approach to God when you love, for you are there with no shadow of turning from the Light. No matter how high your illumination, you can always go higher.

Do you want to live the next twenty billion years as a conquering creator or in a valley of tears and the world's muck? Everyone must ascend someday, which is a great comfort.

Walk softly before God. Always rejoice that you know God and walk in His Light. Speak gently before men, which does not mean being a weak sister. Watch your tone of voice, and joyously pay the debt if speaking sharply is necessary.

Praise, walk and live with God, agreeing that He is always right, even after an emotional jag. Use wise speech before men, and let wisdom use you. You will find yourself armored by rays of repulsion and protected by the wings of Christ when you meet your temptations.

Comprehend God's love, and that He means every word He says. As peace is above understanding, so is comprehension ten thousandfold greater than knowing. You must comprehend to reach divine, knowing love.

Jesus, the Descended God

Edna Lister sermon transcript; December 12, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scriptures: John 14:6-21, John 1:1-9, John 3:10-21.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which gives light to every man coming into the world."—John 1:1-9.

"If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."—John 3:12-21.

"In beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God" contains our whole teaching. The "Word" means all vibration, Substance and comprehension, all that has become.

"The Word was with God and was God." That original Word included everything present in the silence that precedes outer action at the Source, which enfolded all phases of Light vibrations.

Each life spark of every cell in the body of God can comprehend completely, according to its degree and kind. As the Breath of God flows through this body's atomic structure, making it alive and alert with glory and the essence of Spirit, no cellular darkness can remain within any portion.

Illness is absence of that pure Word of God as divine substance from the Source, electronic, atomic and molecular, which fills your cellular body. You have as many atoms in one hand as the number of grains of seashore sand.

God permeates all the opening words in a Day of Manifestation with Light. Light, color, tone, number and form are the principles by which God expresses, from the Source to the outermost bounds of the universe. Color and tone combine to produce number and outer form. "In beginning was the Word" includes the whole vital invisible Source.

"The Word was with God" paints a picture of the Mind that thinks this Word. The life in us is the original life from the Source. Color and tone issued from that original fiat, "Let there be Light," which then became number and form. From these principles sprang millions of combinations that you perceive by your five senses.

The Word became Light, which "moved over the face of the waters." The whole manifest Creation arises from the One Light, which condenses into all forms. We perceive the color of Light as it appears in substance as pigment or hue, and measure Light as energy according to wavelength or luminance.

We form words under tone, which is Light coloring the voice in many degrees, all expressions of a vast scale. We call a colorless tone of voice monotonous.

Number is the next step from the Source to the outer. Everything in form must have a number, which we call atomic weight. Thus, we have the whole background from the Source of All Light.

The Word brings a thing into form, a physical manifestation. "In the beginning was the Word … and the life was the light of men" describes how the Word expresses as the Light and life in us. You can color your whole life perfectly if you live by the twelve lights God gave you, and your tones of voice can express the whole chromatic scale. Thus, God may express as all lights and colors through the form of man.

From Light comes color, and from color comes tone. You obtain color and tone only from the Light above, and may have no "added things" unless you go to the Source for the Light of your life. If you devote your life to self, its color is drab gray. When you keep your eyes stayed on perfection, you will express the glory and beauty behind the scene.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it."—John 14:12-14. Life, Light, number, color, tone and form all flow from the Source. Thus, inner Light becomes principle to guide everything on the outer.

The Father of Mind, Mother of Substance and Son of Power express by means of Light, color, tone, number and form. Your spoken Word invokes the substance that becomes, and the power to heal. The Word takes on visible form to express.

You can tell what a person is by his tone of voice and the words he speaks. You can identify a self-centered soul by the selfishness he expresses, and a God-centered soul, who lives by inner laws, by how he covers blame and declares everything good.

Color, tone, number and form as one in expression becomes an idea in your mind. You speak about it to bring these principles into outer form, and to use them in your life. You can make your form whatever you want, but must declare everything good if you want to ascend.

Some use law to wash their friends and scrub others. You can live up to your vision only in the moment. You cannot drag anyone with you up the next step to glory, but you can exalt him in your mind, and hold the vision of his purity no matter how often he falls into mud. This must be a soul desire because you have become the Word yourself, if only for a moment at a time.

Though you may not always remain perfect, you build a new step in your stairway to God every time you ascend in consciousness. Bind someone with an elastic cord of white Christ Light to help him, and he will not blame you as he would if you try to force him up to God. Apply Light, and this is where it will take you both.

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."—John 3:19-21.

Be careful of the beam in your own eye when tempted to ponder darkness in another. See it, cover it with Light and lift. Darkness still remains God's original substance. Your business is to uncover the Light within the darkness. Raise your hands and declare that Light moves into your body.

Everyone must return to God. God wants all His children back. As the Word made flesh, you must lift your own darkness. Bless your own unruly tongue. You can talk yourself into good, but do not curse your tongue when it betrays you. Look at it in the mirror, tell it how beautiful it is, and bless it until it drips rose petals and pearls of blessing.

Bless your eyes, if you wear glasses, and declare that Light is making every cell into spiritual substance. "My eyes are the eyes of God." Bless your glasses as wonderful crutches until you no longer need them. Say, "These eyes are created by the living God, who uses them to see."

Do not curse yourself if you smoke, but declare that the cigarettes represent the Power of the living God soothing every nerve. Gradually you will no longer need them. You should not curse, but bless substitutes. The same substance in cigars is in the bread and wine of Holy Communion. As you think in your heart, so it is, for you are the creator. Habits cling because you curse them without blessing them.

The Father draws you home when you are perfectly cleansed. Always extend a helping hand to others. See the Master standing before any person who indulges in a negative, abusive habit, and hold the image in imagination with your love. The Master will vitalize that form with life, and put one hand on his shoulder and one over his mouth to heal him.

You may not use law for yourself, but you can speak the Word for others. Law uses you and them as creators. Look into the face of eternity, send your loved ones out robed in Light, and mend the robe that night if they poked holes of darkness in it that day. What you know, Light will do. What you declare, color will do, and it becomes tone, then form. Bless all negatives and lift them, declaring them pure spiritual substance, every mouthful of liquor, inhalation of cigarettes, building a Christed body.

This is the law: You can create using the spoken Word. Bless your creative tools into glorious creative Power. If you set your mind at night in a pattern of blessing, exalting, not cursing, negativity falls away, like an outgrown shell. Give everything in your life a new name. Declare everything good. "I declare all is God, and the Mind of God is good. This situation is good, and ascending." Look up in consciousness when temper flares.

As Moses lifted the serpent in wilderness, so do your words lift you. Lifting the serpent symbolizes lifting your thoughts. Your thinking is how you express the principle of Wisdom as Mind. Declare, "My creations are perfect." You number and name it when you say, "This is good," and the pure color, tone and form of God make it so. Light moves out and contacts all love when you declare everything good. Love moves from every part of the body when you send out love, declaring the love of God fills your life. The love you express creates lovely little clouds, your good thoughts, which want a home. Power moves through you to guard you, and no darkness can touch you if you keep love flowing.

"The Word became flesh." Declare for good so that your creations are good. Inner Light meets earthly light to explode through your auric substance for good. The great Power of the Word is becoming flesh through Mind, Power and Substance, Light, color, tone, number and form. Light is cleansing earth itself, confining darkness in specific regions. We are entering into a new dispensation, and the Light will be so great that it will show up each dark one for all to see.

Declare all you are doing now is good. Let only pure Light express to lift darkness. Wash your soul of the taints of earth. Words are but the carriers for the Power of the divine. The Word of God is all you think, not only the words you speak. Power is using you, so keep your eyes fastened on the Light as it does the work.

Jesus, the Ascending God

Edna Lister sermon transcript; December 19, 1954, Cleveland, Ohio. Scribe: Ruth Johnson. Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-15.

"Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Our ascension work on the Via Christa comprises seven stages of unfolding soul growth for the world. From the time a creature is born into its first body until the final portion of the living soul descends to him, he adds comprehension of God, a little at a time, until he passes through the seven stages.

The same is true for a descended creator god who chooses to ascend back to the Source. You go through seven stages seven times, from pauper to prince, from being a janitor to the President of the United States.

First is the Rebirth, where you catch the first glimmering of understanding that God is. The Baptism by Water, where one touches the "hem of the garment," is the first ascension. Third is the Baptism by Fire, which is Power moving down through the individual.

The glory begins to possess you during Transfiguration, and you ask, "What law did I break?" The Crucifixion is giving up the remnant creature nature, selfish desires, opinions and prejudices and "I think," which brings the "little death," where you wring self's neck.

Sixth is Resurrection, where you have surrendered to be possessed by Power, not trying to use Power yourself. Finally, you find ascension, which is to put on the robe of unconquerable faith, and enter the house of the love of God.

It takes the first set of seven to bring your consciousness into comprehension of God. Then you declare that each person or experience is good, according to its degree and kind.

Always you struggle between believing the truth of appearances or the truth of reality, which is a Rebirth. For example, you could be injured here on the outer, but Spirit cannot be wounded.

What master will you serve, self or the Lord? Pray for healing, then declare it is so, instantly. Feed your fire of faith from above, saying, "Father, you have healed this. Let it come forth," then it descends through the fire body to the physical.

A miracle cannot happen on a line of weakness. Know the truth that when you make a healing statement, Power does come through on your spoken Word.

Under a Baptism by Water, you can creep or join God on wings. Give up your self-pitying tears, the taint of martyrdom, and grow soul wings. A Baptism by Fire always brings the descent of the Holy Ghost. Yet when the first Light of the Oversoul Star comes through, people run to doctors for prescriptions to stop the heat.

You reach Transfiguration when you know the one omnipresent God, who is in, through and above all, for "omni" means "in all ways, places and things." Each has his private live-wire of faith, a line of communication up to God, and Power returns to him over his private line. Do not let it be clogged with self, jammed with the static of self's whimpering.

Crucifixion is how you reach the first marriage of the Lamb, giving up self will for the Will of God. Lay everything, all your desires, on the step above. Do it from heart, not from the teeth out, because you cannot fool law. Law is the truth and knows the truth.

Light begins to shine under Resurrection, when you stop crying about laying down your desires. Yet you have only a 50 percent miracle because you left your desires on the doorstep without lifting them.

You came here to fulfill your destined mission. Your Father wants you to pick up your desires and bring them up with us, or they become stumbling blocks. You had to lay your desires down to give up your self-will, then you must pick up your baby desires to nurture them as you ascend to God.

When all six stages are behind you, you see the glories of ascension. So you apply these principles of ascension: You must accept God as balance in harmony and equilibrium. He could not be love only, or all foundation principles without love. God is dual, the Father of Wisdom and Mother of Love, who beget the Son of golden Light. You cannot get excited about a formless God in empty space. Your present imagination and vision can visualize gardens, temples and altars, and God as personality. Go to your own altar, visualize it, one step at a time, to go home to God.

The first step in ascension is to visualize heaven as place, and as a state of consciousness. The second step is to know your self. You have creative tools of imagination, thinking and desire, but may not live by subconscious mind, emotions or abilities. God created you for Power to use, but you may not use Power. These strictures have confused many students, who think, Why have it if I can't use it?

Unless you send the Spirit of the Lord before you, your spiritual fire can die down before you reach home at day's end. Set your subconscious mind like a clock to send Power before you into your home to meet, greet and prepare your way. That's better than to sigh, all tired out, sadly saying, I am going home. Your way home will be gloomy rather than a radiant center, a Temple of Light. Unless you do this, you are not using your creative tools.

Great divine Power descends at holidays and causes family arguments. Robe them all in Light when you know that you are facing delicate family situations. Your servant subconscious mind does this. The white Light of Spirit moving through you becomes the diamond drilling bit of Light that goes down into others' subconscious and strikes crude oil.

Isaiah prophesied, I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight. I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron, and I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places.—Isaiah 45:2-3. Our world runs on crude oil, which when refined becomes kinetic energy to run every engine in the world, including your heart. When you ascend your body, it is changed to accommodate the Power of the Living God to operate through you.

Your tool of flaming, burning desire becomes hungering and thirsting for comprehension. Imagination becomes vision in action. Declare, My Father is above all, in and through all. He is rich, and can make a healthy, wealthy physical body. His is the atomic power of the world. Take a deep breath and fill your body with atomic energy. Breathe it, accept it, and ascend in consciousness on it.

Jesus really ascended. Ask yourself, Do I have enough trust to put my faith in God's law? Can I love enough, put enough effort into holding onto that live wire of omnipotent faith and follow Jesus the Christ all the way home?

Most people are skull bumpers who never get out of their own heads in prayer. Live in your five-pointed star of soul, and do not drop the lines of Light that bind you to all other souls. Live by eternal life, which is Light, and formulate a definite day by day Plan of Ascension in your initiations. You need a life plan to live by soul and to let Power use you while you use your creative tools.

Jesus walked on the waters of emotion, and you can, too. Just lift up your self-will, and mate it with God's will. "He led captivity captive," and you can, too. Your former captivity to self will become captive to the living God.
