Holy Week

By Linda Mihalic

The events of Holy Week begin with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to the acclaim of the masses of common people, who think him a prophet. Holy Week culminates with the stupendous Power release through Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Morning. The events of Holy Week are narrated in the four Gospels: Matthew 21 to Matthew 28; Mark 11 to Mark 16; Luke 19:29 to Luke 24:1-12; John 12:12 to John 20:1-23.
As you read about the events of Holy Week, remember that Jesus used that time and those events to recapitulate his entire ministry and his Messianic message of love, forgiveness, sacrifice of self, and ascension of consciousness. As you read what Jesus said, imagine that you are there with him and he is teaching you those lessons, which he is.
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”—John 14:1-4.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”—John 14:12-18.
Jesus is speaking to you through these words, recorded so long ago. These are among the greatest of promises inherent in the Via Christa. Jesus is not only the Christ, the first Begotten Son of God; Jesus is the Universal Living Christ who is with you now. He is walking beside you right now, and he will do so always.

Edna Lister on the Events of Holy Week

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem to the acclamation of the crowds of faithful gathered for the Feast of the Passover.

The Last Supper: As Jesus celebrated the Passover Seder with his disciples he washed their feet and taught them the final lessons of his Messianic message.

The Garden of Gethsemane: Jesus made his final preparations for the trial and crucifixion, while his disciples slept.

Good Friday, Jesus’ Trial and Crucifixion: The Court of the Sanhedrin tried Jesus in the dead of the night, then took him to Pontius Pilate for the death sentence.

Easter, the Resurrection: And on the third day, Jesus arose from the grave, having overcome death and all bondage to earth.
