Health and Healing
By Linda Mihalic
Most people become concerned with health and healing only when they realize that they or a loved one has lost some degree of physical, emotional, or mental integrity. Modern definitions of disease are strangely amorphous and wholly materialistic: “a pathological condition resulting from various causes, such as infection, genetic defect, or environmental stress with characterized identifiable signs or symptoms.”–Segen’s Medical Dictionary. Disease is the “impairment of the normal state, which interrupts or modifies the vital functions.”–Encyclopedia Britannica. Other diseases of humans involve the emotions and the mind or mental processes, such as psychic neuroses, psychoses, alcoholism, and other addictions. Thus, a diseased individual is characterized as “afflicted, complaining, conditioned, defective, disabled, disordered, infected, infirm, sick, or troubled.”–Webster’s American Dictionary (used throughout). No wonder the global antidepressants market growth rate currently stands at 7.9%!
Edna Lister always defined the terms she used in speaking and writing, as Plato did in his Dialogues. Unless you define your terms, you’ll be unable to ask for help, whether of an earthly agent or of God the Universal Healer. Health is “soundness, especially of body or mind, freedom from disease or abnormality, a condition of optimal well-being.” Health grows from the root of “to heal,” and is “a sound state of mind; natural vigor of faculties; in a moral sense, purity; goodness; salvation or divine favor, or grace which cheers God’s people”:
.
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”–Psalm 43:5
Being healthy includes being complete, in a consecrated state, immortal, divine, and Godlike. Healing is the process or act by which you seek God’s aid “to restore a person to spiritual wholeness. Healing is the restoration to perfect balance, harmony and equilibrium, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.” Healers use the spoken Word to facilitate movement from a lesser to a higher rate of vibration and state of consciousness. Healing is integration, the coordination of separate parts or elements into a unified whole. The role of psychology in healing is to coordinate mental processes or to aid the soul in adjusting to its environment. Physical healing uses allopathic methods such as drugs, alternative methods, and surgery.
Healing
The soul needs more than physical help. All healing must begin with regaining integrity of the soul, or the healing will be incomplete or merely temporary. Integrity of soul requires steadfast adherence to a code of ethical values, i.e. incorruptible moral uprightness. Integrity is being complete or undivided in mind, soul, and Spirit, a syzygy in consciousness. Integrity is a law of doing and of being: When you act in an integrated way, in alignment with your Source of Being, you inspire others to be confidant. When you have integrated all your scattered parts, you return to the state of wholeness that is being at one with The One, the All That Is.
Individual healing usually begins with the desire to heal, or to be healed. The first step is the idea of healing or health, to become whole, complete, and integrated. Healing names your ascension of consciousness to regain your original God-given integrity, which is being honest, having strong moral principles, being whole and undivided in consciousness, and being unified or sound in construction. From thinking, you progress to talking about healing or being healed. Speech is man’s great creative tool; it sets us apart from all other animals. God has given us the capacities of desire and then will to access His Mind, which holds all possible thoughts as ideas and concepts. Conscious thinking is a dynamic creative act that must precede your use of the spoken Word in imitation of your Creator and Source.
On the Via Christa, two Scriptures reveal our shared creator status with our Maker: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.…And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good.”–Genesis 1:1-4. The first act of Creation was God, speaking the Word, “Let there be Light.” Subsequently, God followed each day’s creation with the action of seeing that it was good and very good.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”–John 1:1-4. The Word was first, it was with God, and it was God. God spoke the Word to make everything, and the life that was and still is in the Word, is the Light of God.
To heal or to be healed, you must have Light, and you must speak the Word to make it whole. Then you must declare that the person or condition is good and very good. Neither medicine nor surgery heals. God is Light. God is the great Healer through His Light, which is yours for another or another’s for you according to the Word spoken. Speaking the Word releases God’s Light to vitalize desire and faith. By your faith’s strength, resilience, stability, and tenacity, you can heal yourself, or speak the Word effectively for another.
All healing action begins with you. Whether you need healing or are praying for the healing of a friend or loved one, you must start the process by going to God in prayer. In one sense, the entire Via Christa journey is all about healing, which means becoming whole, perfect, and complete. Some people talk about healers, being a healer, or wishing they knew one. However, since they are looking for the wrong solution, they never find the right answer.
God is the only Healer, and His Son, Jesus the Christ, knowing this truth, let the Light of God move through him as healing power. Jesus did not heal anyone. He let his Father do the work as the Light moving through him. If you seek healing, this is what you must do. When you are desperate enough, you turn to the Bible for aid and comfort in your search, so we offer you these resources here. Scripture will afford you some relief and is a good place to begin your quest for healing, but prayer, asking for direction is best. Yet remember, you must then wait upon the Lord in the vibrant silence of His Light to receive your answer.
Do not expect to find easy or simple answers here, for healing is a huge enterprise, a tremendous soul-undertaking. Persevere, even when you do not understand how a scripture applies to you or to your needs, and you will soon find mysteries unfolding before your newfound comprehension. "Adonai, rafa oti!" Lord, heal me! Go to God for all your healing needs.
